lsailer got a reaction from General Jack Ripper in Six Engine Propeller Plane?
This thread reminded me of one morning in about 1967, in Irvine California. I heard the sound of distant aircraft. As the volume increased, it got loud enough---really loud--- to draw me outside to see what was what. Several waves of Japanese Zeros were passing almost directly overhead.
Surprise!
My memory wants to say there were hundreds, but I bet it was a lot fewer than that.
I later learned they were T-6 Texans painted to look like Zeros. They were eventually shipped to Hawaii for the movie Tora! Tora! Tora!

"Sociology" is a subject matter, not a method. Some sociologists use scientific methods, some do not.
A common reason that the "hard" sciences seem to be more scientific is that the problems studied are often easier, measurement more accurate and precise, and the subject doesn't change so rapidly over time.

It's just a nervous tick. Sometimes you get hit by them when you don't expect it, and thereafter you end up posting "Canister rounds?" every so often.

I'm sure folk who want this incorporated in game can post an algorithm / flowchart of fatigue in action as an easy guide for Charles programming this up.
Plus they'd need to take into account the wartime use of amphetamines (add these to supply options) to counter fatigue but there was evidence that abuse of amphetamines produced “restlessness, tremors, insomnia, talkativeness and irritability…Confusion, assaultiveness, hallucinations, delirium, panic states and suicidal or homicidal tendencies have also been observed,” according to a 1941 pharmacology textbook. These extreme unpredictable states as a consequence could save BFC a lot of time as this could easily explain pixeltruppen under HE dashing into the open etc. and be marketed as game features rather than bugs ;-)
Or the players could pull an all nighter and smear their glasses with Vaseline and attempt to play CM wearing thick mittens whilst sitting in mud filled ditch to replicate combat conditions - which was the similar solution to a couple of folk who wanted NBC capabilities modelled in CM.

Thanks to brother George, I learned the Germans pulled off an Operation Greif type op in Normandy that I never caught so much as a whiff of in my decades of WW II reading. Must see!

Really informative series. Of course, in Hollywood, the scouts would have knocked out both Tigers on their own.

lsailer reacted to Erwin in How To Install Mods
Simply create a new folder named what you like and stick the bmp's in it and stick the folder in the Z folder.

lsailer reacted to Nicdain in How To Install Mods
How to create the mod folder:
1- locate the file named CM Battle for Normandy.app (it should be in Applications/CM Battle for Normandy);
2- right click on CM Battle for Normandy.app and select Show package content;
3- in the new finder window navigate in /Contents/Resources/Data;
4- In /Data, create the new folder named "Z" (or any word starting with "Z"); in this folder you will put all the mods the way Mord explained

Your reasoning seems sound to me. Pick the theater that appeals to you, and start there. If you use eventually play all the scenarios you care about, then re-analyze and pick another edition.
One thing to add is human opponents. If you play other humans, then the number of relevant scenarios more or less becomes infinite.

I don't watch the replays. However, my Battalion Commander watches it once, and the platoon leaders and squad leaders each might watch it, typically.

lsailer got a reaction from A Canadian Cat in I wish I could give these guys a medal.
3rd squad is moving forward, and they have two scouts out in front. The scouts draw fire from behind a hedgerow and are wounded. The rest of the squad are positioned behind their own hedgerow, and are putting some suppressing fire on the enemy. As the game player, I am just letting them do their thing while I direct other units elsewhere. I prefer not to micro-manage. Several turns go by.
After another turn, I go to review 3rd squad, and am astonished to see them leave their cover and rush the enemy, laying down suppressing fire. The enemy continues to fire back, though, not totally suppressed. Nonetheless, 3rd squad goes through a hole in their hedgerow and moves forward. (That hole in hedgerow rush bug, I hear you think, but not.)
So next turn, they are standing over their wounded comrades, putting fire on the enemy behind the hedgerow, while one squad member is giving buddy aid to the men on the ground.
Amazing TacAI.

lsailer got a reaction from A Canadian Cat in Face (G) problem
Thanks for the help, guys.
Yes, putting a tiny target arc on a unit to stop it from firing does seem to result in losing the Face ability. A misfeature, I would say. But I still think I have seen it when there is not target arc. Not a show stopper. Life goes on.

I want to see a soldier stop to take a leak. Or maybe use one of those outhouses that are all over Normandy.

I'm a predominantly Realtime player (GASP!) and view repeated viewing to catch the minutiae of gameplay 'cheating'. Or more precisely, attempting to game the game engine. If something unknown smacks your lead tank and the only way to know the source is repeating the scene over and over from all angles that's not 'fair play'. You ought to take the hit and chalk it up to fog-of-war. Do I practice what I preach? Weeeell... I'm not above scouring the map for clues after an event but playing Realtime tends to keep me a tiny bit more honest.

There's no reason to make this personal.

Just guessing, but I don't think corn is a common crop outside of the Americas.

Making a movie is not built in to Combat Mission.
You need some third party video capture software. You turn off all the stuff you don't want to see, such as unit icons. You replay each turn several times as you capture the pieces of video you want. You save those small video snippets in files organized so that you can easily find them again. Then you need more third party software to assemble the clips into a movie, add text or voice, special effects, title, credits, etc. Playing Combat Mission is a hobby. Making Combat Mission videos is a whole separate hobby.
