lsailer got a reaction from General Jack Ripper in Six Engine Propeller Plane?
This thread reminded me of one morning in about 1967, in Irvine California.  I heard the sound of distant aircraft.  As the volume increased, it got loud enough---really loud--- to draw me outside to see what was what.  Several waves of Japanese Zeros were passing almost directly overhead.
    Surprise!
My memory wants to say there were hundreds, but I bet it was a lot fewer than that.
I later learned they were T-6 Texans painted to look like Zeros.  They were eventually shipped to Hawaii for the movie Tora! Tora! Tora!

That is some logic.  If everyone gets the virus at once, the hospitals get inundated, respirators are already in short supply - result LOTS more people die.  Health care workers that would be needed to treat folks are sick.  The mortality rate for Corona virus is well above that of the flu even by conservative estimates.  In Italy the mortality rate for older folks is close to 19% (overall rate is estimated at around 8%)  Flu rate is around .1%.  Might want to spend a little more time reading up on real facts.  The panic etc is in good part due to our leaders spreading false information and our response coming so late.
The social distancing that is being encouraged has one major goal - to spread the infection rate over time to allow the health care community to manage the influx - that's it.  It won't stop the virus, but it might keep our healthcare system from collapsing and therefore keep more people alive.  The alternative and the result of what you are proposing is every country becomes Italy - the comparable death rate in the US if we go though that is about 18,000 people in the space of 6 weeks. (had to correct that, googled the wrong info)

Blemishes aren't a thing I concern myself with. Matter of fact, the drilled-down level of detail of the series isn't important to me. Things like uniforms and accurate OoBs are cool and all, but I would hardly notice if it weren't so meticulous. That's for other players and for them I am happy they get it from Combat Mission.
As to the question of datedness, I'll go against the grain a bit. On the battlefield, Combat Mission for me is excellent. The finest tactical wargame. Ballistics, command and control, spotting and the WEGO system are yet to be surpassed in my view. This game is a fantastic simulator on the field of battle.
Outside of this I have to say that it is dated. The menus, the installation process, the purchasing transaction, how content is created, battlefield feedback, graphics, animations,  debrief information, campaign system and lack of a proper AI all seem outdated to me. I still enjoy it, because the combat is so compelling and fun. But for me, outside of this Combat Mission is in need of an overhaul.
And the forum. This is great forum software :)

How much does the Tac AI understand different forces?  Does it have built in rules for different ways different armies used their assets?

I assume the animation for hunt movement is just an abstraction.  I expect scouts "hunting" would spend a lot of time hiding/crouching/crawling and so on, not just walking like a toddler with a pant load.  If you just want them to move forward till someone shoots at them, use Move 8-)

I’m the author of these. Thanks for the compliments!  If you’re looking at these on a phone you will miss fine details. I’ve urged readers in the past to click the images for 2000px resolution to see small stuff not readily apparent otherwise. Just an FYI.
Nice to see they are a big hit! If you’re looking for more, you can find them all on my Profile, at the bottom of the About Me section. Once Upon a Time on the Western Front is actually being published right now, with new additions daily.

That comic is really good and well made. This reminds me of the comics about the second world war me and my brothers read when we were kids in which the Allies always were heroes and the Germans always the villains.

Nice panel - great sense of foreboding.

    Yep
    Really really loud.
They are aw some.  At this point I realized I had no idea how long it took to reload.  I had not played with them at all so I had no idea what their shell could do or what their rate of fire was.  After this first shot I had to quickly setup a test so I had some kind of idea how long they took to reload.   It turns out a little over two minutes.  My plan was always to shoot and scoot and let the near by infantry pick rough targets.  The orders I gave the big gun was to move forward to and face the direction of what I wanted to shoot at with a 20 or 30 second pause and then backup.  Always staying on the road.  I wanted to avoid two things - getting bogged and getting immobilized while sitting there exposed while re loading.

Since I could not see any tanks at first and I wanted to make an impression I fired on that building just to see what would happen.  I knew there was someone in that building but I had no idea it was the CO.  Lucky shot.  Mind you with a shell like that who needs luck.

PS in case you guys have not figured this out I am reading the comic for the first time and commenting here and there as I go.  I am on page 9 of 33 so this is going to take awhile...

Wait, the simplest way would be to copy the MK3 mdr file and it's associated bmp file and rename it like the MK2, then when the game looks for MK2 it will get a MK3 instead!

"Sociology" is a subject matter, not a method.  Some sociologists use scientific methods, some do not.
A common reason that the "hard" sciences seem to be more scientific is that the problems studied are often easier, measurement more accurate and precise, and the subject doesn't change so rapidly over time.
