One further note to this discussion. I noticed that in the upcoming Cold War game that cluster munitions are available for both artillery barrages and air-strikes. I've seen what these absolutely evil devices can do. So saying that, why have cluster munitions in the Cold War game if we can't have modern rocket artillery in any subsequent Black Sea module? It just doesn't make sense to me. One other Russian Federation vehicle is the TOR-M2 (NATO code-name SA-15 Gauntlet) self-propelled anti-aircraft missile system.

Why not? It is part of modern day warfare and war is hell, no matter what historical period game you might be playing. And the thing is, they would, like most rocket artillery be able to fire just one salvo. Takes too long to reload any of them unless you were playing a huge 2 hour long scenario. Besides that, there are all kinds of rocket artillery units in the Combat Mission games covering World War II. Granted, they aren't as accurate as modern day rocket artillery but they can do lots of damage in the right situation. I say, include them. If you got them, use them. A good fix to the problem would be to make them very expensive to purchase in a Quick Battle situation.

I am sure that this has been discussed before but I wanted to comment on the Russian Federation ground forces for any future Black Sea module. After looking at the Black Sea manual, I noticed that there are no rocket artillery units, not even the BM-21. The Russian Army relies heavily on it's rocket artillery assets such as the BM-21 (is listed in the upcoming Cold War TO&E), TOS-1A, BM-30 Smerch, BM-27M Uragan-1M to name a few. I also noticed that the United States MLRS M270A1 MRLS is also missing from the United States force mix. Another Russian vehicle that is missing and is in use by their forces is the BMP-72T (Terminator). I feel that the inclusion of these weapon systems would only enhance this great game, not to mention some NATO units too, Germany and France in particular. And of course, the re-introduction of the venerable A-10. What is a modern battlefield without hearing that BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP from that 30mm GAU gun? No, I do not believe that the T-14 Armata should be included as it does not enter service, other than the 100 test vehicles, until 2022 or later.

WhiteWolf65 got a reaction from Aragorn2002 in Clearing obstacles and dragon's teeth.
    Hello everyone,
We are having a discussion in a FaceBook group that is dedicated to Combat Mission. I am sure this question has been asked before, but we are wondering why the hedgehog obstacle can't be cleared by an engineer unit with a satchel charge? It shouldn't take any more time for an engineer unit to destroy the obstacle as it does to blast a hole through a wall or a hedgerow, but definitely more dangerous. I am personally wondering why the German dragon's teeth obstacle is not included, especially since they would be available in Final Blitzkrieg or any module for that title? Just wondering so be kind.

Yes, the T-90AM with the Arena advanced protection system can defeat a Javelin, in some cases. Also, if your scenario is using a high level of EW that could also be a factor. Last but not least, the level of training your troops have with the system and what their morale level is at the time the missile is launched. The Russian Tunguska is great for laying down a tremendous amount of suppressive fire. If I were part of a Javelin team and encountered one of those beasts, do you think I am going to stick my head up to launch the Javelin. Not a chance in h*ll.

It is true that BF is a small company, but for them to keep the Combat Mission series alive for as long as they have, almost 20 years now, is something I can't say for other gaming companies that have come and gone. I applaud every single person (code writers, graphic artists, researchers, beta-testers) that work on all the CM titles, whether it is a whole new game or an expansion to an existing one. Being a former member of a development/beta-testing team for a different gaming company I can honestly say that how BF is handling the Combat Mission series is fine by me. They can't please all the people all the time. It would be literally impossible for them to work on new games/expansions to please us all in a timely manner. Yes, it has taken them years in some instances to release a new game/expansion but I am one of those that is patient enough to wait for them. In another post, I mentioned that I felt it was a good idea on BF's behalf to get rid of all the other game titles and let them be sold on Steam. They were stretching themselves far too thin. Concentrating on Combat Mission is a very good plan, IMHO.

    Hello everyone,
This post is for those members that I am currently playing scenarios with. For the time being, I am going to have to bow out of those scenarios. So, I am willing to forfeit any kind of win on my part to you. I just don't have the energy right now to sit here at the computer and play turns for those scenarios. I know I have posted a lot lately, but those posts only take me a couple of minutes at the most to write. Plus there is the added attraction that I must have suffered some type of brain damage when I had my near-death event two weeks ago, as my level of analytical thought and concentration are nowhere near what they were before the event. I hope you all understand and I miss playing the best game against some of the best opponents I have ever played. Don't worry, I will return.

My dad absolutely hated Major Frank Burns. Actually, my dad hated officers period. My dad fought in the Pacific as a Navy Seabee. When they got home he had to stay aboard the transport ship to make sure that all the construction equipment was off-loaded properly. One day, he was coming down the gang-plank and this young Ensign told my dad to get out of the way as he was boarding the ship. My dad was a Senior Chief Petty officer and you DO NOT speak to a Senior Chief that way unless you are at least of Lieutenant Commander rank. So what did my dad do? My dad saluted him and then he showed this arrogant young punk (who never served a moment in combat) how to dive off the plank and into the drink. Yep, my dad threw the Ensign into the water between the ship and wharf. My dad was busted down to a Second Class Petty Officer and was immediately discharged. Luckily, he was not court-martialed.😎

Dying (which I did last Friday) definitely has it drawbacks......I HATE HOSPITAL BEDS!!!!! I know you were teasing.
My very first game was Guadalcanal and then Midway. Guadalcanal wasn't that fun but Midway sure was.
I had all of the SPI monster games, including Atlantic Wall. That map was over seven feet long. A friend of mine and I were going to try to play it but it took us nearly three whole days to set it up. And then one of our dear little furry creatures (spelled CAT) decided that it was the best place in the house to take a nap.🤬 There were as many pieces left of him as there were counters in the game when I got finished with him (no, I didn't kill the cat, but he is lucky I didn't).☠️I lent my copy of SPI's Highway to the Reich to a college student that she used as a visual aide for her Master's dissertation on airborne operations in World War II. Sadly, every single game I owned (all 900+) along with my 15,000 piece collection of GHQ and CNC miniatures were destroyed in a house-fire.
I was the same as you when SSI came out with Steel Panthers and Steel Panthers MBT (man those aircraft delivered ICMs were devastating in that game).
Agree completely with your last statement. I tried playing the entire invasion of Normandy using Matrix Game's Campaign Series. It took nearly an hour to watch my opponents replays (15 to 20 minutes alone for all his artillery barrages to complete) and then I would spend at least three hours making my moves. I was also involved in a scenario depicting the Battle of Aachen. Imagine playing with over nine divisions on the US side and at least five divisions of the German side at the platoon level. Same thing as with the Normandy scenario. Sometimes, even with computer games, they do tend to be more like work than play. I think that when I return to playing PBEM CM scenarios, I am going to limit myself to tiny and small sized scenarios, with the occasional medium. Short and bloody is going to become the norm for me. Big and huge scenarios....just too much micro-management issues.

Yes, I could not agree with you more. It keys you up so much that sleep is like "what's that". I have to take at least 2 mg of Xanax at night just to shut my brain off. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

    Good afternoon,
I wish to formally apologize to the administrators and all members of the forums. When I was hospitalized they had to put me on Prednisone to protect my kidneys. In addition to the attack on my lungs and heart, I also had an acute kidney injury caused by the fluid that had built up in my body. For those of you that are not familiar with this drug, it is a steroid and a nasty one too. One of the side affects is aggression which I have been experiencing since all of this has happened to me. I took my last dose of this drug yesterday. I also saw my primary care physician yesterday and asked him how long it will take for this drug to clear my system. He told me that it normally takes about a week to ten days to clear a person's system because the liver has a hard time filtering it out of the body. So for the time being I am going to try to keep a low profile when posting or commenting on posts. I really enjoy this group and would hate to be banned because a drug is causing me to be an ass.
