  1. I actually did a little test where I pitted one platoon of Abrams (not APS) vs four companies of T-90s. I chose a map with a narrow width but a long length, mostly rural with a few trees and houses. It was also a hilly map if I recall. Anyways, I took the Abrams and just lined them up abreast along a ridge-line but not hull-down. I then had the platoons from the T-90 companies line up in a inverted-V formation and started advancing towards the Abrams position. Just in front of the set-up area for the T-90s was a light wooded area. I gave the command to "HUNT" to all units of the four companies (might as well call it a battalion). For the Abrams, I used the "TARGET ARMORED ARC" command to establish interlocking kill cones that spanned both the width and length of the map. The T-90s starting rolling forward and before they even cleared the tree-line, when six T-90s go "BOOM". To save this from becoming a novel, let's just say that by the time the remaining Russian tanks got to the half-way point on the map, a junk-yard laid behind them. They too met a flaming death. They did however, manage to kill one of the Abrams. Ahem. What can I say? Nothing, other than the code for the Abrams should be brought down a couple of notches.
  2. Same here. It is amazing that my two functioning brain cells even work at this time of the morning, 4:06 EST.
  3. Add camouflage netting and you'd really have a difficult position to attack. Again, just my early morning brain at work.
  4. Good morning, One type of fortification that I have noticed that is missing from the Combat Mission titles dealing with World War II are weapon pits. I know that they are in CMSF 2. How hard would it be to include them in a future patch and/or expansion for the World War II Combat Mission titles? We all know that these were common with the German units, especially during the drive through Belgium after the Bulge and the assault on the Sigfried Line (especially around Aachen). As a matter of fact, the Allies encountered them in Normandy as well (remember Easy Company attacking that line of German 105s that were dug-in). Just my early morning brain at work. **Chris**
  5. You are welcome. BTW, it has maps that show the battles that the book deals with. It is definitely worth the price. He has written two other books, A Higher Call and Devotion but I do not know what they are about. **Chris**
  6. Good morning all, For my 65th birthday, my girlfriend bought me the newest book written by Adam Makos, "Spearhead: An American Tank Gunner, His Enemy, and a Collision of Lives in World War II". This book is right up the alley for those of you that play Combat Mission: Final Blitzkrieg as it takes place shortly before, during and after the Battle of the Bulge. I highly recommend it to anyone that plays any of the Combat Mission titles dealing with World War II. There is even content in the book that would make for some interesting scenarios. **Chris**
  7. All I can say is this. I personally feel that Steve and the rest of the development team have brought all of us grognards an excellent series of games. I am also glad that they did away with some of the other non-Combat Mission games and devoted all their efforts to Combat Mission series. I have been playing Combat Mission since it first hit the market so many years ago. I recently, in January of this year, bought a computer rig that was capable of handling the graphics of the new game(s) and I now own all the titles and expansion sets. I am very much looking forward to the Fortress Italy and Red Thunder expansions as World War II is my all-time favorite period of history. I would enjoy seeing some new weapons systems developed for CMBS but I am just glad that the team is working hard to bring us an even better series of games. Many kudos to Steve and the development team. All the best to BFC in 2019 **Chris**
  8. Doing the uniforms for the NVA, Viet Cong, and the ARVN units might take some serious modding but I have no experience with this.
  9. When I was on the beta-test/development team for the Campaign Series::Vietnam game, I made an absolutely huge map that covered an area from about 10 Km south of Hue to about 5 Km north of Dong Hoi and from the Laotian border to the coast of Vietnam. Once I have come up with the best way to make maps using the CM map editor, I would be more than happy to work on this project. I love making maps.
  10. And I get shot down for wanting the inclusion of the Russian BMP-T (any version). Interesting.
  11. I have unzipped the file to a folder of it's own and created an icon for it. Windows asks me if I want to allow the program to be added to the computer and I click "Yes". When I double click the CM Helper icon, nothing happens. I have also tried pinning it to my Task Bar and still nothing happens when I click on it. I have also deleted the file and downloaded it again making sure there were no registry artifacts left over from the first install. I downloaded a fresh copy and installed it, still nothing.
  12. One of my opponents sent me CM Helper and I have tried to install it but nothing happens. If anyone can help me, please do so. I've watched the videos on how it works after installing it but not much info on how to get it working.
  13. Oh, I am sure that certain enemy states of the United States have gotten their hands on pirated copies of these simulations. Several years back, two of their design team were arrested in Greece on charges of espionage for taking photos of the island that most of ArmA is based on. I never found out what happen to those two BIS employees but I think they were everntually released.
  14. Aircraft in ArmA II and III are not meant to represent actual flight simulators. The true jewel of ArmA II or III is your basic foot soldier. It is the only game (actually a military simulator) that has made me flinch. All the ArmA simulations are based off a real military simulator by BIS, VBS and VBS II (Virtual Battlefield Simulator) which is not available to the public consumer. Also, ArmA II and III will not be sold to anyone living in Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and I think Pakistan. At the moment I am in the process of getting all the mods for ArmA III so I can play I-44 (Invasion 44) which is a massive World War II simulation. Okay, enough about ArmA or one of the moderators is going to bark at me.
  15. ArmA II and III are not really meant to be a true reflection of combat aircraft performance and are not actual flight simulators, although you can fly them as a player if you wish. Those were probably AI controlled A-10s and the guy laying on his belly was the player acting as an FO with a laser designator.
  16. Good evening all, This question is for those of you (probably most of you) that play CM PBEM games. What house rules do you have, if any? Chris.
  17. Yes, I do play CMSF2. Actually getting my rear-end tore up in a Syrian vs Brit scenario at the moment. Yes, I'm the Syrian player but I did manage to take out one of my opponent's Challengers. He still has at least two, maybe three, more that I am hoping I can kill but it is doubtful. The three T-72s I had are toast.
  18. This video from ArmA II should answer your question.
  19. Yes, throw the Marines, the Brits, and NATO into the fray. What was/is good for CMFS2 is good for CMBS as well.
  20. Thank you gentlemen. Maybe 'flak' was the wrong choice of word. What I don't want from BFC (any time period) is one that is more of a fantasy type CM (World War II going beyond May/August '45) than what actually happened (or could happen in the case of CMSF or CMBS). Now saying that, I feel that if BFC brought CMBS up to the current time, or even 2020, that wouldn't be too much to ask for. Of course, this is their company and I am just glad they have done what they have done.
  21. I have been playing CMBS now for a couple of months. I have made several comments about it and most of the time my comments have been shot down for one reason or another. When I mention that some of the newer weapon systems be included in any new expansion (hopefully there will be one), I'm told that those weapon systems are outside the "time period" of the game. People, this is a "what-if" confrontation between the United States and the Russian Federation military forces. Now you could say it is somewhat of a "historical" representation of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Otherwise, it is still a "what-if" situation because the Untied States has not gone to war with the Russian Federation (and I hope we never do). If it is a matter of "time period" for not including some of the newer weapon systems that have gone into service recently, then expand the time scale another 10 years, into the mid to late 2020s. What about the inclusion of Special Forces from the United States and the Russian Federation, especially units such as US Army Rangers, US Marine Corps Force Recon, Russian PDDS/Spetsnaz? I am sure to catch all kinds of flak from this post, so shoot away. But please understand that it is not my intent to start a HUGE argument concerning the future of this excellent game. The Battlefront team has brought hundreds of us countless hours of enjoyment with all their Combat Mission titles and I only wish the best for that team in the future.
  22. And I am not asking for a Fulda Gap in the 1980s type game from Battlefront because I know it probably won't ever happen. CMBS is a representation of a fictional confrontation between the United States (Ukraine) vs. Russia using the weapon systems that were available at the time the game was produced and the A-10C was seeing action in Afghanistan and Syria at that time against ISIS. So, it should be reintroduced. Now if you are talking about the Ukrainians against the Russians, then I guess you could call it a "historical" game. Otherwise, this is a game representing a "what if" situation between the United States and Russia. And as for the sound of the GAU-30 ripping off some rounds drowning out the other sounds, that is the case in real life. I have heard that sound in real-life and it gets your attention very quickly.
  23. To the developers of this fine simulation of modern small unit warfare. Please bring back the A-10C. I realize that at the time the game was being developed that there was a question whether the A-10 would continue to be used in the CAS role. Now that Congress has appropriated the funds (in 2017) to maintain the A-10C until the mid to late 2020s, it should be returned to the CMBS fold. Oh, and if you do...please give it a good BRRRRRRRRRRRR sound. Nothing like the sound of a GAU-30 ripping off some rounds.
  24. Personally, I feel that counter-battery fire should not be included in any future expansions to CMBS. The same goes for MLRS, especially ones that can deliver thermobaric warheads. There are much more important and newer weapon systems for the United States and Russia that should be considered that would be found in the CMBS environment.
