1. It seems I can't write a review for cmrt on steam (bf download version activated on steam). It worked on cmbn though. I would like to leave a positive review on steam, does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
2. thx for the explanations, works perfectly fine for me. i was also able to get all mods to run, intuitively. reshade is not initialized at program startup. i don't understand that.
3. hi guys, i'm a bit confused. i'm rediscovering combat mission, by chance i found the "all in one" mod compilation of user 37mm and now i have real thrust to get back in. at 37mm´s collection are also various campaigns and scenarios, i wanted to put these in the corresponding folders of cmbn, cmfb and cmrt. at cmbn it went as usual without problems. in the "game files" folder is "campaigns" and "scenarios". simple. however, i did not find this folder "game files" at cmfb and also not at cmrt. using the search function i looked for .brr and .cam files in the corresponding installation directory. none to be found. nevertheless, the games offer me to play different scenarios and campaigns. from this point on i am a bit confused since i actually know it so that all scenarios, campagnen are to be found in the corresponding "game files" folder / subfolder. i created a "games files" folder and "campaigns" in the cmrt installation folder and put the .cam files in there. it does not make any effect in the game. what did i miss? i am grateful for ideas.
4. hey chuckdyke, thanks for the answer. in my naive imagination i assumed that gunner or loader would man the mg (one 7.62mm mg still working / green)...but with your explanation it makes sense. thanks a lot!
5. hi guys. after a few very rough moments against a panzer IV, i was able to save this sherman by pulling it back behind a bocage hedge. just fine. the crew was unfortunately decimated by the enemy fire and most weapon systems are down. but a mg should still work. but i can't give the sherman a fire / attack command. neither via "t" nor via "y" (target light). the morale of the tank crew is ok...i don't know. what did i miss? thanks for hints. i can use the extra firepower of the sherman mg on the battlefield. got over 4k .30rounds onboard, so...
6. last thoughts of pixeltruppen 1st squad, 1st platoon, B-company "outlaws", 1btn/506th PIR... what a nice and above all safe shed. no problem to cross the open field on the side of the shed where the shed has neither doors nor windows... well... [img][/img]
7. chuckdyke, thanks for this great database link! i will spend a lot of time with this. Erwin, i think you're right. that's what all cm-letsplayers say. some mechanics of the game i also had to learn to understand - things i thought had to be one way or the other - but the game had a completely different solution, not obvious to me. be it pathfinding, the behavior of the tactical ai when it comes to entering houses, etc. Combatintman, i'm not pragmatic enough for that.
8. hello dear wargamers. i have a question: which sources do you use to train yourself regarding military tactics? for me, in comparison with various other military strategy games, combat mission is a deep battlefield simulator where real military tactics lead to the goal i notice more and more that i need to catch up here. in other words: the more i play cm the more i notice that i need to learn more. it's almost like learning to play the guitar. now i've already tried the search function of the forum and unfortunately didn't find anything suitable what goes beyond what I already know. and i've inhaled the channels of various relevantly known youtubers. besides, i'm very familiar with bil hardenberger's wonderful blog and i've also been following john kettler's cm adventure journey. josey wales, general jack the ripper, jeffrey paulding...i visit them all from time to time. i also indulge in my native youtube channels like "der hobbygeneral", "taktikfuchs", "headbreaker". very educational. so...what exactly am i looking for? written "theoretical basic works", i think. "in the given situation xy the infantry company proceeds like this: ...". something like that. what the handy tiger- and pantherfibel was for the tankmen, there must be something like that for infantry and commanders. but also more detailed, more intensive. "dienstvorschrift" it would be called in german i guess. references to standard works of the various war factions, following the respective military doctrine. i am grateful for any tip.
9. what a slaughter. i finally got the battlepack 1 and the vehiclepack. my tactic was to leave wide parts of the map unconsidered. out of the consideration: if i completely pull everything at the southern map border towards the east, i minimize a lot of potential enemy contact and am almost at the gates of the rail center. i moved the entire infantry into the forest in the south. the hill in the southeast served as a bof for the two mg teams and as a scouting base for the company commander. artillery strike, "all in" on the rail center. area fire of the three light tanks. assault of the infantry over the bridge in the south. simultaneous advance of the tanks. although extremely heavy losses, a major victory. a very nice scenario, glory to the creator.
10. As a full-time musician i have to say: hell, yeah! Non-war games? Puh...i like some "easy to go"-games. "loophero" is as great as the letsplayers on youtube say. "divinity2" is really great fun in a group of three. my guitar students celebrate "crypt of the necrodancer". you have to press the keys very skillfully in rhythm and you can even do this to music you choose yourself. "faster than light" is a really well done little game, roguelike and set in space. "opus magnum" is probably the most innovative game i've discovered in the last few years. it's a puzzle game where you create alchemical products by building and programming machines. the survival game hype didn't pass me by, the theme is exciting but unfortunately a lot of these titles get lost in crafting micromanagement. there are so many nice games out there. when i'm not playing cm i also like to sit in front of the computer with my guitar, doing finger exercises and watching well-made letsplays.
11. ig deals with keys for platforms like EA Origin, Steam, Ubisoft, NCSoft and this for many years. i would like to claim that this would not be the case anymore if these keys would be put in market illegally. i myself (region germany) was a "heavy user" at ig for a while and had only the best experiences. since i got stuck on cm i fortunately don't have to look for new games that often anymore.
12. short question about spotting. following situation: cmbn / sherman stands with front at a bocage hedge, directly beside him is a friendly hq team and a fo team, both teams also directly at the hedge and with their front in the same direction as the tank. the tank commander looks out of the turret. in about 500 meters straight direction / line of sight of my units / behind the hedge is a tank 4. hq and fo spot this, the tank commander from the sherman does not. not even after several rounds. i think i read somewhere that the information flow between tank and infantry works when the commander is looking out of the turret. apparently this was not the case here. do you have any ideas? of course, i tried it at other, neighboring waypoints along the hedge. without success.
13. @landser thank you very much for your work and this reference. this is exactly the kind of campaign review i had wished for, and it does indeed exist.
14. Many thanks for the info and the link to the thread!
15. hi guys, quick question about the situation: tank crew got out - get back in. mission "shield and hammer", the tiger hit several of my shermans, but two remained functional. now i want to let the core crew of the 3rd sherman get into it. something strange happens: the crew members are shown as "in the tank", each crew member with the corresponding icon (e. g. loader) but the tank is still declared as "dismounted" and i can't get back in. g. loader) but the tank is still declared as "dismounted" and i can't assign any commands to it. there is a crew icon above the tank, furthermore the tank icon is visible. the pixel troops / crew are not visible outside the tank. before i "succeeded" in doing what i just described, i had problems getting the crew into the tank. they sometimes only got onto the tank as tankriders. may this be because i didn't try it with the original crew / with the crew that originally belongs to the tank in question? i think i've read this before on the forum. maybe i missed something, thanks for tips on the situation.
16. Came to CM in 2018 with CMBN, so many exciting hours in front of the screen. Even away from the screen i often think about the respective tactical problems. I'm from germany, here there are three or four good combat mission-youtubers, a small wargaming community. Very instructive, as is Bil Hardenberger's blog. You won't regret the investment if you've already had fun with the demos. Yesterday i bought cmfb. finally. playing time since then: 9 hours. Gotta go then too, cmfb is waiting. Have fun.
17. @Thewood1: it's probably an "occupational disease" of mine, in my trade (guitar teacher for...let's say "unpopular playing techniques" ) such terms as the one you highlighted in bold are on the agenda - with the result that after a few years you have to deal with a small but very reliable fanbase. you can find my approach ridiculous, you're welcome. it's also moaning on a high level, slitherine does a lot of things right. for me, video games are on the same level as artwork, be it a song, a movie or a painting and i'm a bit emotional about it in this context my "responsibility" is to be seen. if in my branch only popularity would be published...one would have to rewrite the music textbooks, "there are only four chords... " one will probably still be allowed to wish for things? maybe a misunderstanding: i never said a word about a company releasing a game for free. maybe it's because english is not my main language. sorry for that. my main criticism of slitherine is that they use the popularity of panzer corps (1) massively to promote panzer corps 2. up to a certain extent this doesn't bother me, but if i find five posts regarding panzer corps 2 (in the period 09.06 - 16.07.) under "activity" on the steam page of panzer corps (1) (!) then this really annoys me. apart from the unspeakable panzer corps gold-edition...
18. congratulations, it went straight onto my wishlist. i just found out. i'm too busy these days. as much as i basically like slitherine, i have to say that they are not acting wisely on every front. currently it is a big annoyance that they use their big community of panzer corps to promote panzer corps 2 massively. and they just leave a rough diamond like battle academe 2 lying around, what a pity. it is hoped that they become aware of their responsibility - their target group are no teenagers. hopefully they don't overdo it like they did with panzer corps 2. steamreviews: a lot has already been written here, i share the opinion that the reviews are overrated. if the product description and especially the introduction video are well done there should be no problems. of course it looks different if the user has false expectations. it should be very important to have an adequate description and a video. an explanation video which shows the complete planning phase of a project, comments...likewise, gary grigsby's was in the east: 301 reviews, "very positive", 10 year old game for 70 €. everything done right. slitherine screwed this up brilliantly with a release announcement (which could not be complied with) for panzer corps 2 but that was a little bit longer ago, so you shouldn't do something like that if you don't want to scare away a sensitive target group for a long time. i haven't read the whole thread yet, i will do that when i have more time. probably i will find answers to my questions then. for me as a battlefront / combat mission-fan is now interesting: hopefully the titles from the second world war will follow? steamkey for already purchased titles would be good; steam is a standard for many players. cm without various mods is out of the question for me - opening the steam workshop for it would be great. i wish the whole team a lot of joy in working with slitherine.
19. Hi Bil, sounds good, I´m really looking forward to new content; your battle drill is bookmarked in my browser. Thanks to "armor forward! but with intelligence" in your battle drill I became aware of two other interesting...eh..."small books". "Fibel" we´d say in Germany. 1. Panzer helfen Dir! (Merkblatt 18b/38 vom 15.9.´44. Was der Grenadier vom gepanzerten Kampffahrzeug wissen muß) "Tanks help you! (Leaflet 18b / 38 from September 15th, '44. What the Grenadier needs to know about the armored combat vehicle)" 2. Taktisch richtiges Fahren mit dem Schützenpanzerwagen "Tactically correct driving with the armored personnel carrier" While "Panzer helfen Dir!" is in the style of the "Tigerfibel" / "Pantherfibel", the "Taktisch richtiges Fahren mit dem Schützenpanzerwagen" comes as a very specific instruction: therefore, two pictures are shown for each situation, a short rhyme per picture explains why and how to proceed (take a look on the last two pictures). Maybe this will be a future project of yours to process this content for the battle drill (like you did before on "armor forward!", sharing your personal thoughts on the given situations).
20. Hi Bil, thank you very much for your battle drill blog. It is fun to try out the new knowledge, it is very educational. Keep it up, greetings.
21. Hi Steve, Attilaforfun brought up the marketing-point; as a relatively new player to CM (I´m in for 1,5 years, maybe) I can tell you: It was this video... ...that brought me to CM. Don´t know if I would have recognized the game ever otherwise. Which would have been a pity. (Good) letsplayers will do the work for you. Out there are some great guys like Hobbygeneral, headbreaker, Taktikfuchs (german yt-channels that do a lot CM-stuff), I´m pretty sure their CM-related-video-content is the best advertisement you can get.
22. Hi folks, it´s me again with another noob-question. So far I thought I was getting into the C2-mechanics. Till this night: My mortars cannot get the fire mission from "company HQ", no chain of command between "company HQ" and "4 platoon HQ". And I wonder why. Both units have radio equipped and are not moving. "4 platoon HQ" has no radio-sign in the middle of the three squres...what does that mean? Thanks for help, again.
23. I would like to renew Bens question from 2016: what is the masterplan to be able to compete with atg, cromwells, hellcats and infantry against the panthers? It does not matter if I'm already on the rails or not, they always stand with their front to me. Is it necessary to take the right side of the field to catch them in their flank? So far I have the feeling that I can not compete with the panthers. No matter how much firepower I have on the field.
24. Hi DerKommissar, I´m absolutely into COBI - you won´t find anything better concerning "Klemmbausteine" / LEGO-like-bricks and WWII. Just give the german yt-channel "Held der Steine" a try; it´s in german, but maybe DerKommissar understands it. Otherwise there might be subtitles. He has done a review on the Leopard 2 A4 for example. I´m pretty sure your younger brother would love the COBI-stuff if he´s already into LEGO-like-bricks. Well...the figurines...some say they don´t look so good... I have no strong feelings one way or the other about them.
