  1. Came across Thai video and thought that as CM player I was able to identify some tactical misnamed. I was wondering how many of them are there and if you can identify all of them.
  2. Oops let me clarify that against humans it will be infinitely better than any AI QB or scenarios. But for single player experience scenarios will always be better than QB however if you are stuck on an island then you will run out of the superior made scenarios and left with QB. I know there are ppl who still play CMx1 because of the QB.
  3. True but I am afraid we will run out of scenarios even community made ones while QB has endless gameplay potential.
  4. I know it's normal for but not to the point where it occurs with 100% certainty on preparation zone. I'll replay my mission in due time and try to be better with what I've learnt.
  5. I would like to know this as well. CMFI have been on my wish list for a very long time and almost bought it last month. thai is the first I heard of someone not liking it.
  6. Some would say Combat Mission Battle for Normandy because it has the best value in terms of content/price ratio. WW2 is also easier to understand with shorter range guns than other modern titles meaning most of the time you will be able to identify where the shots are coming from and don't have to face devastating ATGM shots from 4 KM away. My first combat mission and computer wargame I ever played was Combat Mission Black Sea and it led me to eventually found my own blog The Avid Wargamer and to promote computer wargaming to larger audience. My suggestion is to download the few demos across the games and try it out yourselves to see which ones appeal to you the most. Maybe start with Battle for Normandy for WW2 and Black Sea for modern settings.
  7. RIght, thanks for the clarification. I may not be new to com bat mission but I am not that familiar with how arty by the AI works. It's weird why don't Battlefront remove early arty in QB maps. Maybe settings a 15 minutes delay by default would make QB much more playable.
  8. Thanks for all the replies. Correction, the arty begin on the open terrain few hundred metres after the set up zone in the beginning but after taking Obj 1 further arty will trigger on the obvious key terrain and the general set up location where my tanks and some reserves were still station which is my fault. However the hinds keeps attacking my units on the set up zone mid to late game. Not sure if this is unit or location targeting. Nonetheless, I’ll try the scenario again with what I’ve learnt. So far the only other YouTube video I found of this scenario used the other side of the eastern hill to fight from which was not so effective as well. PS I am rewatching all of Hapless tutorial videos to freshen up my memory.
  9. Started the NTC Campaign and chose the Spoiling Attack. Received nonstop barrages at my preparation point and further copter attacks at the only reasonable hill to take on Objective 1 and 4. Can the scenario creators answer why a tutorial scenario is so ruthless with the arty? If someone has an AAR or video on playing the mission optimally that would help me a lot. So far I only found Hapness Hasty Attack scenario which does not have opening barrages.
  10. Ironically this is from CM Cold War NTC campaign meant for beginners. You could see this in the first few minutes in the first mission if you choose Spoiling Attack. Of course this is also common in quick missions which does render the mode to be almost useless.
  11. Thanks for the advice but in the scenario as I was moving my troops to the nearest hill for cover but my troops already received shelling from their starting location and on the way to the location. it would be nice if there is an AAR or video covering this particular scenario and how it was tackled.
  12. I am playing the NTC campaign in Cold War and having a hard time figuring how do I survive the opening barrages on my units even before leaving the spawn point even if I leave the barrages and later on helicopter attacks seems relentless and my units will be combat ineffective to take the other objectives. Of course if I were to play again I would place my units elsewhere knowing where the initial arty would land but realistically what can I can do to avoid or survive this in the future?
  13. I had no idea this thread would last this long. I’ll be more than happy to see the Pacific war/ island hoping covering multiple islands like Tinian , Iwo Jima, Saipan, etc
  14. I purchased a Mac Book Pro M1 2021 with the notch and running the Windows version of CM Cold War via CrossOver which cause the game to ignore the notch and play in full screen which cuts the UI at the top. I've tried other notch icing apps but ti only works on Native Mac applications. Can someone recommend what I should do to hide the notch? I can't seem to hide even when I run on Desktop resolution.
  15. After Shock Force 2 we had the Syrian civil war and after Black Sea we now have Russia - Ukraine war. This means that as of now all Combat Mission games are historical one way or another. Should Battlefront start making potential fiction wargames in the future? Should they stop making fictional wargames? What's next for Battlefront?
  16. Hi Wargamers! I had a great time this week interviewing Jason Petho who is the lead designer for the upcoming wargame, Campaign Series: Vietnam 1948 - 1967. Link: https://avidwargamer.com/blog/2021/09/11/an-interview-with-jason-petho-from-campaign-series-legion/
  17. Sorry to hear about your bad encounters. I live in the Oceanic region which is a total opposite from most of my opponents and so far I have never encountered a time zone issue with them. If you are looking for Discord channel. You may join Hex which includes a Combat Mission channel for player to discuss and find opponents. I also run a combat mission fan club FB group with quite a healthy community. Discord: https://discord.gg/56Hj4Hha3J Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/669551343523575/
  18. I read a lot of military history magazines like Strategy and Tactics, Modern Warfare and World at War
  19. Hi Wargamers! I need you help. I've have somehow forgotten o backup my saved games for the Russian campaign and I have competed the 3rd mission. Can anyone give me their save game that is right after the 3rd mission after fully invading across the Dnieper Thanks alot!
  20. Yes but my speed here is 100MB so not that slow either. my other applications and stream are fast as well. Weird thing was I tried using VPN from the US and it suddenly became as fast as my usual speed
  21. The download speed from battlefront share file server is really slow like less than 100KB and is taking forever to download 2GB for CMBS Are there alternative links? Anyone getting this too?
  22. Like the others who have said try the demo first before deciding to buy any of their games. FYI, Combat Mission Black Sea Demo was the one that got me into computer wargaming. A few years later after that fateful experience, I have co-started with a few guys a dedicated computer wargaming group called Hex! we have about 800 members now and still growing. I am also an advocate for computer wargaming and have been promoting it ever since. I do reviews for most of the latest Slitherine games and also working on computer wargaming guides for newbies. Who knows maybe combat mission might also lead you down this same path.
