Bufo got a reaction from Sgt.Squarehead in Does Soviet tactics work in Combat Mission?
Remember that the top armor is the weakest on all MBTs.
Some related simulations:
155mm M107 vs Leopard 1 hull top (30mm)
152.4mm F-534 HE vs RU251 armor (20mm thick)

Bufo reacted to Artkin in Does Soviet tactics work in Combat Mission?
This has also been an issue for years with the M1 taking tons of direct hits from big ordinance. There IS an issue with artillery. There is no need to have a pretentious snob here telling us what's up. Precision munition doesn't kill tanks. That is a big problem.

Remember that Russia invading the Ukraine is defensive in nature. It must be true, Vlad said it.

Another video of what can see a gunner of T-64BV mod.2017 in thermal sight. He rotates a turret, not a sight. At the and of video the buildings are seen at the 10 km range

Do yourself a MASSIVE favour, set it to Iron, now.....Then leave it there (at least until you have a real need to change it to Scenario Author Test).
Doing this will have no significant impact on the actual perceived difficulty (other than artillery and buddy-aid taking a little longer), but it will help you to learn how CM works a lot faster.....I strongly recommend you read this thread (several times) and experiment with the concepts it explains:
PS - Apologies for confusing you earlier.....I assumed you were more familiar with the games and were enquiring about the mechanics of pre-battle contacts/intel settings.

Probably this is perspective plans how to supply Ukraine with lethal weapon evading Germany blocking in NATO Supply and Support Agency.
Today three RAF C-17 delivered to Ukraine "modern short-range anti-tank weapon". There is no information what it can be, but many experts claim this is Saab NLAW. UK made a statemet about own plans on 17th Jan and on next day weapon arrived. On own way British C-17s flew around Germany airspace. Maybe situation demands fast decision and Germany could consider UK request too long time, due to their position.

That's because the games aren't currently capable of taking advantage of the full power of modern computers. They are well optimized, and will run reasonably well even on a potato. But there is no noticeable improvement in their performance on even the most powerful gaming PCs. Engine 5 will probably address this.

Gunner's thermal sight TPN-1-TPV vs. usual gunner's sight 1G42 in T-64BV mod.2017:
TDA tank smoke station, which generates a cloud of dense smoke, covers neighbor truck for 1G42, but thermal sight easily can spot the truck behind the smoke.
How TDA works in movement (this feature not represented in CM)
What can see the gunner of T-64BV/BV mod.2017 in own perscope and 1G42 gun sight

That is all incredibly wrong. Ukraine isn't massing for an attack of the eastern territories and Crimea which were illegally stolen from them in 2014 by the original Russian invasion. Russia has gathered over 100,000 soldiers on the border and are the ones who initiated and continued this crisis.

Oh, that makes sense now.
The drawback of faster call times is they are also faster for the enemy.

Bufo got a reaction from AstroCat in How CM games should look like
I knew this was coming. Looks and play has nothing to do with each other.
I was talking about what it should look like, not what it should play like.

It is also a matter of fitting the platoon into 3, not 4, BMPs.

Bufo reacted to Drifter Man in Some tank duel tests (CMBN)
An update on the spotting tests. First, overall spotting rating (remember - it is a measure of spotting ability in the forward direction at 200-1400 meters, relative to the Pz IVH). It confirms the previous find that open topped vehicles spot far better than fully protected ones and are nearly unaffected by being buttoned up.
Second, I also plotted the spotting rating as a function of distance for selected fully protected vehicles (the trends tend to be the same for all) when opened up. At close range (200 m), there is little difference in the spotting ability among the different vehicles. As the range extends, some gain an increasing advantage of up to 15-20% over the reference Pz IV. If you have a vehicle that can spot well, it is advantageous to engage at a longer range. If you have one that doesn't, you may be able to reduce this handicap by getting closer.
I have included an outlier - the SU-85/SU-100/SU-122. It spots poorly at close ranges. I have only seen this behavior with this one and with the T-70. The heavy assault guns (ISU) do not have this problem.
The same plot including a representative of the open-top gang, for perspective.
The same plot with hatches closed. At 200 m the spotting improves and being buttoned up is less of a disadvantage than at 400 m. From 400 m up, the disadvantage of being buttoned up gradually decreases with range. Unless you have a SU-85/SU-100/SU-122, which again does its own thing.

Sounds intriguing, I'll have to try and find an hour.
I wish this sort of thing was published in writing because I could read in 10 minutes or less what is going to take him an hour to say.

Bufo reacted to Aragorn2002 in Christmas Bones
Well, CW was a pleasant surprise. Bones are usually not very accurate, so I prefer a sudden pre-order over a bone anytime. Don't want to go through the FR experience again.
