It's because russia is losing and the war may not be over before the end of 2024. It won't look good to release a game about the war in Ukraine as the war will still be going on....

I  am pro-Ukrainian just calling it like I see it.

I hope I am wrong and this is all over soon and in a positive way for the Ukrainian people

If the DLC would be about killing Ukrainians, I would understand. But if the campaign is about killing Russian VDV, release it!

I'm sure we're all aware by now that the BMP's AT-10 appears to be using a non-tandem warhead due to the poor performance against any form of ERA, even the T-64BV's Kontakt-1.

However, I came across the patch notes for v1.04 from 2016 which includes the following:

    FIXED: The AT-10
's tandem HEAT warhead from the BMP-3/3M was too weak against ERA.

It appears that the AT-10 is intended to use a tandem warhead, and it was buffed years ago in order to better perform against ERA. However, through testing, the AT-10 still seems consistently stopped by the T-64BV's Kontakt-1 ERA (let alone Nozh and Duplet which are much more modern ERA systems with even better protection).

So, what's going on here? I think there are two possibilities.

    1. The AT-10 wasn't successfully fixed for some reason, or it was fixed but subsequently broken again later on
    2. The AT-10 was successfully fixed, but the fix was not sufficient, and it needs another buff

Even the non-tandem 9M117 Bastion should be able to penetrate about 550mm of RHA after ERA, which means that even the non-tandem warhead should be able to defeat the ERA and armor of the T-64BV if it hits anywhere but the front of the turret, let alone the tandem warhead that's supposed to be in the game (either 600mm after ERA for 9M117M and 750mm after ERA for 9M117M1).

In my opinion, I think that the AT-10 is still underpowered. I don't necessarily think the AT-10 should be able to defeat Nozh or Duplet ERA as those offer much better protection and the 100mm AT-10 isn't really that big of a warhead compared to other ATGMs, but the tandem warhead on the AT-10 should be able to overcome the ancient Kontakt-1 ERA on the T-64BV at least.

Are you sure that it would penetrate the front of a T-64B? The T-72A has a LOS thicknes of 550mm, the B even more. And that is of compositarmor, not RHA. Not that the old Soviet composite was very good, like later western compositearmor, but anyway.

This video is a bit misleading.  I've seen that dance before, with prop guns. It's a holdover from Soviet times, Support The Troops With Ballet-type of wierd thing. I believe it's roots go deeper and the "weapon" is usually a sword.

I watched a short very similar Polish dance, by a guy with a wooden sword, at our wedding in Przemyśl.

Me to, but the first time I saw them. The the girls had AK 74´s, and a year later they had AK-47´s. But now?? Going with PPSh-41 or whatever thy found in the dump 😄 Next time they probably dance with Mosin-nagant.

You know Its bad when the army search for guns (for them selfs) at the local stripclub 😁

True, the line intersects the horizon just inside the picture frame. But I think it might be perspective playing in, as we're seeing a 3D scene on a 2D screen.

Could be so? But I still don´t bellive so. There is quite a margin at distance to the right. There is a very flat trajectory on the missile/rocket/shell. The trace of the shell that the prime tank fires the second before impact, looks the same. That one detonates at the same time itself got the hit. I still belive its a blue on blue, but with a happy ending (Nooo, not the happy one you nasty boys thinking of 😁)

I'm no military expert, but it seemed to me that the shot came from off-camera to the right. The shooter is probably a tank in the dark treeline visible at 1:25.

If you take a ruler, and line it to the Heat jet-line. There is no out of sight in the clip. Pause the clip at 1:34, and look picture by picture. By 1:35 the hit occours. Freez there and take a ruler, you have free terrain to a very far distance.

Edit: its only on the picture in akd´s post, you don´t see long enough to the top right.

  7. 24 minutes ago, Bulletpoint said:

I think it's the other way around - a HEAT shell coming from the front, hitting the wall, and the jet then continuing on, grazing the tank.

Nope, dont think so. If you draw a straight line forward, along the line of the blast. There is nothing there. No smoke, no blast, nothing that it could been fired from. I´v looked in slowmotion (picture by picture) like 30 times now. It is nothing in the line there. But if you find something, point it out. And I stand corrected.

Crazy.  Looks like the HEAT jet actually hit the side of the tank.

Even more crazy is, that it looks like the missile came from behind. Detonated at the tank, in the front right side. And the HEAT-jet continued into the wall in front of the road.

Probably becaouse the tank is reversing, suddenly stops and starting to go forward again. And by that time, the missile was already launched?

Easy. Chechens are basically the only putin's personal terrorist army left. They are to terrorize civilians, they are the only ones willing to do it in Russia* and they have no military training to fight somebody armed with a gun.

Every russian is afraid of Chechens because they managed to defeat russian army twice over the course of just 5 years - so they kinda have that default "+2 to intimidation" skill by just being Chechen.

Irony is that I have no idea how anyone even thought they will be ever to battle Wagner, the armed guys.

*like actually terrorize, e.g. by stuffing a bottle up their asshole - actually happened, none of that pussy OMOH that can only beat some chicks and arrest a few old ladies, but instantly disperses come some resistance.

Kadyrovs goat loving Tik Tok battalion, what could they have done to stop the Vodka marsch to Moscow? They only put out TikTok videos where they shoot at traffic lights. And videos, where they pretend to be in combat situations, but are not!

They are not the Chechen 110% fighters who opposed the Russians in the Chechen wars. Kadyrovs goatlovers, are Russian army. Nothing else! Exept they dont go to combat, they just talk the talk on Tik Tok, and love goats.

so had to dig out some old data, but always fun.

U.S. did a test in 1960 detonating 105mm and 155 mm HE shells to see how fragments performed against armour plates. At a 20 feet distance, fragments from 155 mm HE were not able to penetrate a 2 inch plate.

    http://tanks.mod16.org/2014/03/10/report-on-protection-from-fragments-from-he-ammunition/

estimated armor protection of T72 turret/hull armor is estimated to be equivalent to a 13-46 inch plate.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-72

so the tank itself cannot be knocked by a near miss from a U.S. 155 mm shell (or presumably a Russian 152 mm HE shell). Whether sub systems can be effected by fragments would be another issue.

I suspect most tanks knocked out in Ukraine by indirect artillery were the victims of cluster munitions.

But with 13-46 inch plate, you are only talking about the frontarmour. Artillery don´t care if the wehicle is turned in the direction they are firing from. Most arty kills I´v seen from the war, is from the side. And mostly on BMP/BTR´s. But according to Ukraine soldiers, they lose most of their tanks to artillery to (Now, maybe mines to). And there are lots of weakspots on tanks in the side/back. Particularly on the T-xx tanks.

Take this photo of the side front of an T-72B3Jejfo%252520%2525282%252529.jpg  Very thin side armor there. And you se the composite front plate armor inside, and that we know the thicknes of.

80 mm on the upper part of the sidearmour of the T-72 hull side. But only 20 mm on the lower part of the side. Thats not even an inch! And thats where the carousel mag is!

In game, it uses the M1 Abrams sound effect to represent a turbine engine (like the T-80), but the T-84 was based on the T-80UD which uses a diesel engine of course...

    so it's wrong.

I think the T-64BV i the same, since IRL it use a two-stroke diesel engine. And sounds like a motor bicycle (moped)

  12. The war in Ukraina has showed a suprisingly high effectivnes, of artillery against Tanks, IFV´s, and other armored vehicles. Ukraine said erlier, that most of their tanklosses came from artillery. And Russia is very thin on guided shells. And we have seen 100´s of twitter/youtubeclips of artilleryshells detonating close <50ft to AFV´s destroying them. And now even several upparmored M2A2 ODS-SA Bradlys, and a Leo 2A6. Getting missionkilled by artillery, possibly a few total kills. And more to come with probably M-kills/K-kills by arty, of upparmored CV 90´s, Marders, Challenger 2´s, Strv 122´s. And later on of M1A1´s.

I know BF cant change this in existing games, since every campaign. And every scenario have to be redone, to reflect this.

What your thoughts? I didn´t want to spam the bigone with this, but a separate thread.

  13. Now when its clear that the Ukrainian counteroffensive is underway. Even if Oryx has not uppdated. This was Top Secret, and nobody new about this! The Swedish millitary said on thursday (All media in Sweden Cited), that Sweden has educated 4 mechanized Companies in Sweden on CV 9040C (The best Swedish version with heavy MEXAS addon armour, and all of them are going to Ukraine) only used in Afghanistan earlier!. Around 400 Ukrainian soldiers, and that they now are in a secret place in Ukraine, to participate in the counteroffensive.

The 40 mm on the CV 9040C has the 3P round, which is a gamechanger in some aspects.

    In english

Probably training on Strv 122 (Leopard 2A5+) took place in the same time. The millitary say, they educated Ukrainians on every vehicle that was sent to Ukraine.

So possible even Archer 155 mm Artillery with its 37,3 mile range (60km) and very fast shoot and scoot, and up to 6 rounds MRSI. Sweden sent 8 Archers to Ukraine, and several to UK. To let UK send more AS 90 Braveharts to Ukraine. Uk wanted some Archers, so they was not to thin on artillery!

All may be, but yesterday one Russian milblogger has written that one of officers of HQ of 19th motor-rifle division, defending salient, told him they destroyed "several Abramses and different Bradleys, which they even didn't count" %)

****, Russians have a new ATGM that can reach all the way to USA. Abrams are not planned to arrive until autumn 😁

If the newer Western MBT/AFV are involved in this push then it is perhaps a first sign this could be part of the major offensive. Looking forward to the details of the forces involved.

I think UA will probe over a large area of the front, with older equipment. When they find a weakspot. Then they quickly will use that weakspot, and send in major formations of western equipment for a breaktrough. Followed by others to secure the flanks. They probably only try to break the Russian lines in a few places, so they will have enough troops on these places to overwhelm the Russians. And both encircle the Russian front units, and go deep at the same time to destroy logistics, and artillery etc, etc

Actually, based on the burst and angle of the dissipating HEAT penetration, looks like it got hit in the "grill," but fragments must have gone through open hatch and started ammunition fire. Alternatively, mine or second hit from different direction.

I think its an NLAW, or BILL toppattack missile. Detonating above, sending its HEAT blast downwads.

To put it plainly: with the exception of the graphics card this is a PC commonly found in a landfill.

Would be better to find something on Craigslist and put in a newer graphics card.

For CM, the GPU is ok. When playing a huge scenario, with 150+ Tanks and AFV´s. My RTX 4070 only used 50w, and 1,3GB of memory. The fans didnt even start to cool it, they where on zero (according to Afterburner) One core on my i7 9900k was on full alert, the other 7 cores, mostly idleing (afterburner again).

  18. It says the PC is renewed, and refurbished. The only Core i7 cpu I could find, with 4 cores 3,4 Ghz Base, 3,8 Ghz turbo clock. Is the 11 year old Ivy Bridge 3770. So maybe the 11 year old cpu, is the reason for the cheep price? Do you really want an 11 year old cpu?

CM only use like one core, and it like high clockspeeds. So even If you by  a used one, like this. Try to find one with higher singlecore Turbo. Like a core i7 6700k, or 7700k, or even better 8700k or 9900k.

Late Autumn at earliest, apparently. Make sense,  considering the Offensive will be peaking around September.  Any earlier with the Abrams and theyd just be stressing an already busy logistics system.

Sad that they wont arrive earlier, but its understandable.

Is there any country in the world right now, with more different models of Artillery, Tanks, and AFV´s in their arsenal, than Ukraine? Even smallarms.
