  1. Yes, of course, it's the community's fault. It's always somebody else's fault. Another fine post. Your mom must be so proud...
  2. No. Reasonable people disagree all the time and this was once considered a "feature" of polite society. There are no corners, PBEM is simply a supported mode of play. I do not believe anyone on this board ever described it as cutting edge. It's not winner take all. I don't understand the need to remove a feature (i.e. PBEM) because someone unilaterally decided it was unnecessary. You alluding to a "us vs them" dichotomy. You are reading to much in my post as I don't mind new play modes being added. I just don't understand the need to slag other posters. My moms once said that I should be able to take what I dish out. Is this not the case when someone else decides to be rude? Say your piece politely without the drama and move on. We should be allowed to voice differing positions on any aspect of play without being labelled young, old, hip, blue or red. While I may prefer reading (forums) over talking (discord). I see the value in having both and wouldn't want to remove either as an option for others to consider. A good illustration of a situation that shouldn't be 'winner take all'. More importantly, I respect the effort @domfluff and others are making to engage and grow the community. It's all good. All the best.
  3. Repetition doesn't make your particular viewpoint true. PBEM is the only way a GMT-4 like myself can play with *everyone* else on the globe. Believe it or not, some folks live outside your mom's house in places like GMT+2 or like even GMT+9. We get you don't have the patience to start an endeavor requiring effort longer than 2 hours in your need for immediate gratification. No one is disputing the game should offer more immediate play modes than PBEM. Start a poll and the most desired mode would still be PBEM. Don't confuse something that simply works as being obsolete. The internets only functions today on 'obselete' protocols. Use your superior time management abilities to troll some other site. Pro tip: Stop trying to knock other viewpoints down. It's a complex world out there once you leave the family basement where not every solution is a simple yes/no.
  4. IRL, drivers understand tonnage moving at speed does not stop on a dime. Tanks traveling in column will maintain 25 yards separation (IRL). I'm not disputing the tediousness of "plotting-pausing-plotting-pausing". I simply don't share your impression that we're an easy fix away from correction. But, I'll keep it at that as I don't wish to detract further from good functional specifications that could help BFC restart this effort. No sense in clogging this thread up with negativity.
  5. WWII US tanks traveled maintaining 25yd distance between units in the formation. Dunno the doctrine of other nations. So, let's say that's 3 action spots (3 x 8m). In line formation the leftmost tank would be 100-125yds away from the rightmost vehicle. When stuff happens, what are you're expectations again? Let's say the formation as a whole is in LOS. Let's also assume - each vehicle is immediately aware of the situation. What conditions apply? Repeat the exercise when flanks are out of LOS and situational awareness is not exact. What conditions apply? How is bogging handled? What happens when LOS is not uniform? What happens when Hunt or Hulldown is used? What happens when situational awareness within and without the formation is uncertain? We seem to put a lot of effort into a "feature" that would rarely function as intended. Why clutter the panel with a command that could only ever be used and reasonably expected to WAD when traveling on a road? And, not even reliably at that. Yes, it's tedious now. But it works by not promising anything and therefore - not breaking a player's heart when stuff happens!
  6. And/or, trust the scenario designer to have abstracted the preparatory "rolling" barrage involving naval, air, and artillery over the course of hours as one begins their setup on maps much too small to otherwise accommodate it.
  7. Thank you. I was looking at the main and MG gun barrels.... doh!
  8. I'm not seeing it. Your viewing from different angles and magnification yet... I'm not sure what the issue your reporting is about. The main gun seems to be present in both screencaps...
  9. I think most here achieve this by plotting J (15s burst) or Y (light fire) at waypoints (short bounds of 1-2 actions spots). Insert pauses and the J / Y commands will switch/renew when it reaches a new target order at the next waypoint. NOTE: Any target (Fire or Arc) commands can be inserted. One is not forced to plot a single waypoint 100m away. You can break that up into smaller distances and achieve a fairly effective recon by fire. Where this breaks down is when the unit involved wishes to remain in place. But, if you can rock them back and forth over a distance of a single action spot... the above works. Disclaimer: I'm a Luddite not wanting 'lazy' commands such as 'Shot & Scoot' or 'Halt and Fire'. There's already too much blamed on the TacAI as is. As long as everyone has the same toolkit (or limitations) - then we can blame each other (ie 'gamey play') rather than the engine. Also, there is an realtime play mode where this isn't necessarily the same issue. We WEGO players sometimes forget this when posting.
  10. In fairness, they've been working back from 2018 Ukraine, 2008 Syria, and most recently 1979 Germany.
  11. Personally, I'm fine with a CW module for FB and a UK/NATO/USMC module for CMBS (bonus if they add French forces). Then repeat the aforementioned UK/NATO/French/USMC module for CW. Then an early war in the east front. But, I'm only one guy/bot...
  12. Spot on. Also, one is ordered to take a position within 'X' time limit. And, not when one feels like it. Playing with time is an option in design for balance... YMMV.
  13. So, we want to waste time implementing riders to further impede the effectiveness of APS, ERA, optics, weapon systems, etc...? Or, are we just asking for additional passenger dots with no penalty to maneuverability or combat effectiveness?
  14. SH4 is Silent Hunter 4? What is JSGME?
  15. Another thing setting Blast on the action spot (location) will do for you rather than through it - is provide a way for the blasters to stay in place rather than lead the charge through...
  16. Select moving vehicle and cancel all pending waypoint(s). Select dismounts and click 'Dismount' to order. Select vehicle again and plot orders. Hit red button and you'll see the dismounts get off *before* the vehicle begins it's movement. Dismount allows you to disembark from the vehicle *before* the vehicle does it's plotted orders. Otherwise, the troops dismount *after* the carrier (ie vehicle) has completed it's movement.
  17. New players should not be hitting 'Bail Out' unless they wish their Bradley/M113/T80/etc. to become unable to fire or move. 'Bail Out' will disembark a dedicated vehicle crew and not do anything to the passengers. It's not a paradox nor complicated... It's safer and less frustrating for new players to understand that 'Bail Out' will leave vehicular weapon systems inoperable. And, every title behaves the same way so the UI function is consistent. I'm simply trying to help *new* players avoid unintentionally dumping the "wrong" troops. Blindly clicking buttons in CM2 tends to produce unintended consequences. We haven't even mentioned the nifty feature 'Dismount' provides to address situations where you want to dismount *first* and then have the carrier/transport/etc. continue with it's movement. Bail Out only works in this instance here (AD Team/Utility Truck) as it is the exception proving the rule. Anyhow, it's not the end of the world either way.
  18. Actually it does apply. That AD team (or AT or MG, or etc.) is not vehicle crew. Therefore, they *Dismount*. Any troop (including this AD team) will be able to drive away by being the first to *Embark*. The first troop (HQ, Squad, Team, etc.) to do so gets to drive the vehicle whereas anyone else will *only* need to plot a simple movement way point in order to dismount (or hit Dismount when that unit is selected). Granted, I should have said a dedicated crew/driver needs to *Bailout*. In situations where a *dedicated* crew/driver exists - only if/when that dedicated crew/driver *Embarks* again will one be able to move/use the vehicle. While utility vehicles such as Jeeps or HumVees are able to be driven away (used) by the *first* troop to embark (blue dots). All others embarking afterwards become passengers (green dots). It's worth noting that hitting Dismount with this vehicle type will force *every* (blue/green dot) occupant to dismount and leave the vehicle unoccupied if you do so when the vehicle itself is selected. While doing the same to a vehicle containing a dedicated crew - all dismounts (green dots) move out leaving the vehicle with the dedicated crew in place and able to move away immediately. In any event, once someone figures out that BailOut is only available when a *dedicated* crew are present. One can look for Dismount instead in the UI in all other circumstances. I believe this is consistent across all titles. I do appreciate your splitting of my hairs...
  19. Rule of thump, vehicle crews leave the vehicle using *Bailout*. Passengers use *Dismount* (or a simple movement way point). A vehicle crew can remount and drive away if it is their vehicle. Otherwise, they mount as passengers. This is consistent across all titles.
  20. It's one of it's strengths for sure. Every CM2 game function/feature is consistent across every title. Essentially, you learn the UI *once* and are able to apply it across the board. A new theater/period merely requires the player to understand the TOEs involved.
  21. If the missile doesn't require guidance to target - the vehicle can be handled as any other vehicle in game right now.
  22. Mine aren't Bluetooth which may explain my lack of problems in CM. I'll assume you have updated drivers. Nice sound setup BTW. Other (no-BFC) games aren't causing similar problems?
  23. I use a Logitech G930 headset and have not ever encountered this issue. What make and model are you using?
  24. Excuse me. We Canadians can be pretty hostile. The ref blew a call on a flagrant high stick in last night's game in OT - you should have heard the chats of "You suck REF!!!" Quite the spectacle to behold.
