  1. found an odd thing today, typical some stupid non wanted or needed windows update came up...and its i think had a knock on affect to CM, Red thunder currently.....

seems to be with microsoft OneDrive......AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive\24.020.0128.003\VCRUNTIME140.dll is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine.

    so.....?

tho you can get around it via loading the game as administrator, but that beside the point. never needed to before.

    anyone experienced this one? lol

CMx3 as an upgrade to all CMx2 titles (engine 5 scrapped) or a new CMx3 Cold War as the first title.

    Reasonable expectations :)

This the most believable id say, so its not a complete move away from the cmx2 series. but an advance. they did mention the work on engine 5 is or has been extensive..so yeah possibly. i say that as i've seen more no's to yes or maybe about there being a cmx3..

i don't ever see the engine as "dated" those that are old skool wargammers will agree 80% or more of titles over the years  never have that great of engines etc or graphics. and im seeing more and more remastering of old titles. .

so i really dunno, i'm so intrigued tho. as CMCW was a total shock surprise to me, and this could be just that, maybe an early war title? who knows. but just IN MY FACE , ave it! lmao...sir can have said moneys any day..

    Thanks!

Unfortunately I just completed a long distance move and had to leave my main PC behind, so I don't have access to my reshade files I made for CM.

One thing I can say from memory is that I find the depth of field effect (Ibelieve it was the cinematic depth of field, specifically) really helps to make the models and lighting pop. I think a good argument can be made that the 3D models are the best visuals that CM has to offer, and having DoF focus on that while blurring the less than stellar other visuals helps highlight that.

Beyond that, I'm no graphics wizard, or even artistically inclined at all. I just played around with the reshade settings until I found something that, to my eye at least, was somewhat presentable. I still have lots of criticisms of my reshades too, but if you fool around with the settings enough you might find something you find appealing. Good luck!

ah no way, nothing more stress-inducing than moving house, hope its all settled now.

and cool... i did think that but the additional settings are just crazy, did play with one which had a pointer cursor type thing to aim the focus? but will look further into it. still slowly going through the list and deleting the ones that won't get used .

thank you for your response Cpt ! o7...

I've been playing around with reshade recently and have been getting some pretty nice results for the most part. Besides the reshade, these pictures feature a handful of mods, such as the DDR mod, the US OD reskin, as well as S-Tank's excellent MERDC reskins, to name a few.

Why not both? I find the best learning comes from a variety of sources (in my case books, youtube, and simulations). The quality of the military history content on youtube has reached really spectacular levels. They usually have much higher research standards than traditional documentaries. Real Time History isn't even the best of it (as much as I enjoy their content, they tend to repeat common myths a bit more often than most of the other channels I go to, so their research standards seem to be a bit more on par with traditional documentaries). There is Eastory, Drachinifel, Military History Visualized, TIK, Military Aviation History, Usually Hapless, Battle Order, The Operations Room/Intel Report, Kings and Generals, Forgotten Weapons, The Chieftain, The Western Front Association, GI History Handbook, and so many more that I'm sure I'll remember in a few minutes.

No source is perfect, and I've caught all of these channels making the occasional mistake. There is just so much misinformation out there that it's impossible for even the best historian to filter out all of it. That goes for books as well. The format that the research is presented in has no effect on the quality of the research, so books will contain as many errors as videos. I was just reading James Holland's book on Normandy, in which he repeated the myth that the Bren was extremely accurate and the MG42 was extremely inaccurate (they actually seem to have roughly the same accuracy, about 4-5 MOA). I doubt anyone could say that James Holland isn't a good historian. There are simply so many myths out there that it's impossible for even the best historian to catch them all.

just gets expensive is all... try to limit my sources, on the whole there's so many subscription's that one can do it all just seems a vacum for ones money. even more so when one has two young kids, and a wife out of work.. lol.so its not that your wrong. its just unpractical.

I'd definitely buy Combat Mission: Operation Unthinkable. Though, seeing as I've already affirmed that I'd buy any Combat Mission game, that may not count for much.

i'd buy anything combat mission related. even a mug for my coffee...and no, i'm not joking lmao

Oh, for those of you who have a Nebula subscription, the upcoming release of Downfall means that now might be a good time to point out that Real Time History has done a series on the Allied fighting over the Rhine river in 1945. For those who don't have a Nebula subscription, unfortunately this series isn't available for free on youtube, but I seem to recall that Nebula was pretty cheap back when I signed up for it.

i'll stick to reading my books..lol

While I'm hanging around here on the forum, I have an idea:

Now that the big CMRT project will be finished soon,  I feel an inner energy within me to look forward for something new 😎

Of course, no promises - because I don't know for sure whether I'll have the luxury of combining work and hobby so comfortably again this year.

But if I start something new, it will probably be another BattlePack of 3-5 campaigns from Axis point of view.

No Normandy and no Italian Theatre (there are many people who have a thousand times better background knowledge about these battles).

But the Eastern Front from June 44 to May 45 and the Western Front from September/October 44 to May 45 are available to choose from (hoping for the release of a new CMFB module in 2024 🙏😞

Therefore, suggestions can be made on this topic.  Eastern front or Western Front? Berlin or Budapest? Rhine Front or, for example, the fighting for Northern Germany? Or something completely different?

There are thousands of interesting regions and battles. Everyone can make suggestions and contribute ideas here.

    Regards

    Mr.X

OOh , more is always good. first to come to mind would be scenarios based around the festungs, Kustrin, Budapest, Posen,  things for which i feel altho there is some material it is still lacking...

With the release of Combat Mission Red Thunder on Steam comes the introduction of the PBEM++ system and Tournament feature to CMRT.

In addition to these features we've been able to take care of a few bugs.

Plus, some of the scenario and campaign designers can't help themselves and have tinkered with some scenarios and campaigns. These new versions are in the patch too. The new versions will override the previous versions. If you want to keep the originals then move them out of the Scenario and Campaign folders before installing the patch because the patch will overwrite what you have. Here's the list:

    Scenarios:

    BP1 Polosa Deistviya

BP1 Lesson 2 SPW Tactical Reconnaissance

BP1 Heart Of The Dying Sun

    BP1 Bridgehead at Rakow

    Campaigns

    BP1 Tigers at Ogledow

FR Night at the Opera Soviet

FR Night at the Opera Axis

    FR The Battle of Tukums

Here are the changes in the patch:

    * FIXED: 3D modeling has fixed turret issues with Pz IIIG
    * FIXED: MP-507 no longer fires full auto, now it’s only be able to fire semi-auto
    * FIXED: Panther Ausf D model had the hatch open in the opposite direction, and some of the spare tracks are textureless.

Elvis, while installing this patch it keeps creating additional data folders as it installs, (see it via the install path location address) and then comes to a out of disk space....

    confused. Bubba
