  1. War on the Rocks podcast: A pretty fair review of the opening few days, and a warning that Russia may have had setbacks but still has considerable reserves and is likely to adapt etc. Also seem to be winning in the south. https://warontherocks.com/2022/02/interpreting-the-first-few-days-of-the-russo-ukrainian-war/
  2. From the images /stories I've seen so far, the Ukrainians like the NLAW. They are doing work. I'm sure the other systems they have are also doing work. God knows how important it was to get those weapons into Ukraine before the invasion and with time to train people in their use. It looks to me like the terrain and the timetable, the mud etc, is forcing mass movement by road and is perfect for ambushes. I know more support from the EU etc is coming. I expect the Russian to be paying more attention to the western borders and major routes into the country in the coming days. https://twitter.com/COUPSURE/status/1497590205074845698
  3. US Marines for Black Sea? Aren’t there suitable NATO units that could have been included. So little variety already in the modern titles. And are we to believe an invasion fleet is sent into the Black Sea? Within land based air range, kilo subs operating in it. Urgh. Sounds ridiculous and the US centric aspect is getting a bit boring, could have done an entirely new army or something. Reasonable excited about most of the stuff listed but this made no sense other than it would be easier to make with the assets from other titles.
  4. Went to the museum last summer. Awesome day, I missed Tank Fest by a few days, had no idea it was on. Still saw an M60, warrior and a few others running about. And, there is a large Monkey Park only a minute or two away, for some light relief. As a great man once said “Monkeys were made by God to entertain us”.
  5. Having had a quick look, the campaign files do appear to contain separate, individually encrypted, scenarios. I don't think the tool decrypts anything, it just parses headers and splits the large file into individual scenarios. I would quite like a tool that could import export from scenarios, stuff like AI plans, map data, etc.
  6. This probably isn't possible without a decrypt tool.. One glimmer of hope may be the campaign extraction tools. The campaign extraction tools manage to extract scenarios from campaign .cam files. I looked at a campaign, the header isn't encrypted, but the rest of it clearly is... - and yet the campaign extractor will parse it into separate scenarios and the decision trees. Maybe a campaign file is made of a lot of individually encrypted files and the tool doesn't actually decrypt anything. The source code is included, im having a quick look at the parser code now but I'm don't really know how to read code, well not computer code anyway.
  7. “A December Morning” it has its own scenario, same name, and a QB map, same name. Looks like light snow ground conditions.
  8. Just started with blender myself and don't know what I'm really doing yet. Plus I have a feeling the import / export process loses stuff (even when importing and exporting with metadata), how important that stuff is I don't know. It seems ok with simple objects, weapons, gear, but vehicles often have janky animations or errors after exporting, but that may just be me doing stuff wrong. I couldn't really think of many applications of redirecting the mdr models to new textures, only a couple, but there are probably more. Someone will come up with some ideas. I didn't even think to look at skeletons mds. Phil already had it figured out, this info might help him rename and organize his stuff more easily now. I don't quite know the limits of blender and the mdr tools yet so I can't say. I can say hex editing sucks, often its like looking for a needle in a haystack, but it can really open doors when you figure how a file works . The 1 bit 8 bit alpha thing might conceivably be there actually, if I were looking for it I'd have to start with two good examples of texture on models where 1 is a 1 bit alpha and the other 8 bit. The simpler the models the better I guess. Low LOD trees perhaps for a 1 bit? I think the guy who wrote the importer tools must have figured out most of the file format? It's a shame he didn't continue to work on it, but it still helps a great deal.
  9. Had a look in mds files and the same principle applies. See how all the strings are preceded by a byte indicating string length and then a 00 spacer. Then the string follows. Even the bip entries do the same: bip01 spine is 11 characters long 11 in hexadecimal is 0B. american_ammo-smg is 17 characters long, which is 11 in hex. My guess is you could rename these to new model names or whatever and it would be fine as long as you also edit the size of the string in the relevant byte. I use this technique for a few things, mostly swapping textures. For example in an mdr, I edit spare wheel names on a vehicle like the opel blitz. I rename the spare wheel texture it so it uses a different texture to the main wheels, that way I can have snowy wheels on the ground, but the spare type isn't covered in snow. In my experience with mdr's there is no checksum. But changing a text string to a different length without telling the game its length has changed will result in a hard crash.
  10. Just on the subject of text strings in mdr files, they are preceded by a byte indicating string length in characters. This may not be true for mds files, but certainly in mdr, a texture name or model object like say hetzer-hull (11 characters long) will be preceded by 0B or 0xB. I can’t remember off hand but pretty sure there is also a spacer byte 00. These can be altered to give custom string lengths without any issues, the mdr has no checksum by the looks of things and changing string lengths is fine if you also change this byte counting the length.
  11. I can't download the CW 1.01 patch, keep getting invalid link, does that mean 1.02 BFC patch is on the way?
  12. Some bugs I reported appear fixed in 1.02 so thx for that, but alas not all. Here is another for you, the normal map for the m577 hull has a typo so it isn't used at all...
  13. Encountered this bug yesterday. Basically an M113 not pausing as ordered. CW 1.01
  14. Quick question? Do you login with your existing Slitherine / Matrix account details or is the PBEM a separate new account that needs to be made? Thx (not used their PBEM before, but obviously bought a few games from both over the years).
  15. Should the 2.11 patch not install a copy of the Fire and Rubble manual pdf in the root directory. I installed it a week or two ago and it wasn’t there. Maybe it was in the 2.10 patch but I skipped that as 2.11 looked like a big cumulative update that superseded it.
  16. One more: In Quick Battle TOE, German Armor, Flammpanzer Company formation is available to buy in October 1944 without any tanks. It is literally an empty formation. It finally gets vehicles in Jan 1945, but from Oct to Dec 1944 is empty. Also, the AI will often buy multiples of these empty formations in quick battles if you leave the AI to buy its own units, wasting points on "nothing".
  17. Thanks for reporting the bugs I spent cataloging. As regards the one you didn't see... I see this in Quick Battle formation selection: Panzerjager Batt 44 (armoured) The option for JPz IVs is highlighted as a sub-option under self-propelled gun, you just don't get any JPz IVs, only Hetzers. As I stated, this is different to the scenario editor version TOE options. I can't find an US M2HB 50.cal specialist infantry teams anymore either (infantry or armored inf.) They definitely used to exist as they appear as add-on units to formations in some scenarios included in Final Blitzkrieg. If you want any you have to use a formation like the AA Platoon. Specialist Teams - Airborne 57mm AT Gun - an Airborne unit present in Armored Infantry tab? Wears standard US army uniforms - so just the name is wrong? - Look like it should be a mortar team actually looking at the specialist lists. Also, it's nearly 18 months since the last patch, is there ANY news on patch progress? We have been more than patient.
  18. Thanks for replying. Yes I’ll have to be careful not to do it accidentally. Basically I’ve been doing similar to you and just doing a few commands and not having time to finish up so saving under the same name, I have to remember not to do that in the future. I don’t have F and R yet, so didn’t install the latest patch for RT. Wasn’t aware it affected that title.
  19. Keep finding files called "tempfile y.tmp" or similar in the same folder as User Data. Turns out they are save games that I thought hadn't been saving. I'd had a few saves go missing when trying to save a game using an existing save game file name (basically overwriting a file) and also noticed these tempfiles. Looks to me like Black Sea 2.16 will no longer save over existing save names and instead dumps the save as tempfile a few directories up. If you change the tempfile extension to .bts you can recover it. Anyone else noticed this? (Asking cause playing BS on an older system so wasn't sure if it was just me.) It isn't happening with other titles though.
  20. A bit early for the defense council to be submitting evidence isn't it? We don't even know the outcome yet....
  21. btr-60 pb models have some issues. The lower LODS use the btr-60pbk model with two aerials but the highest lod switches to the pb model. This has some erroneous shadows, including one for the extra aerial which it no longer has. Game is missing the correct LODs for 60pb. The BTR-60 pbk uses the pb model without the extra aerial??? Also the MG on top of the T-64A has a green gun barrel. Also t-55 model is using the t-55m accessories which is for a different colored texture set and is why the fuel tanks on the hull appear so bright.
  22. Here's the weird shadow bug on the BMP-2K hatches.
