I like the Panzer II Ausf L 'Luchs' a lot.....This is probably not the best way to treat the only running example on the planet:

    This is pretty silly.

C'mon, man! How much longer for some friggin' screenshots? I know it's usually a good thing when things go quiet, but damn, I am getting impatient! You'd think we could get a few shots of some of the new stuff in CMFI at least.
OK. Had to get that out, it's been a few weeks since my last b****ing post.

I think, this will be interest for you in this topic. Except Russian forces, look, how much armored vehicles have "mined" DPR (1st Army Corps) and LPR (2nd Army Corps). In comparison with some Westernm armies.
My familiar, former Ukr army serviceman and one of LostArmor experts, has complited huge work - he identificated from photo and video of enemy resourses almost full number of armor in DNR and LNR srvice. With aid of LostArmor resourse, of course.  I've asked him make infographic in English for you and he did it. Click to enlarge.

Maybe make your scenario available to us and we can try and accomplish the same mission.  It would be interesting to compare different players' strategies/tactics.

HerrTom reacted to Sulomon in Sulomon vs Oleksandr: A Quick Battle AAR
Hello this is an AAR of my quick battle with @Oleksandr  It's a Russia vs Ukraine medium size meeting engagement.

I haven't played much Black Sea (I mostly play Final Blitzkrieg) and I went with what I figure would be a standard force.  I have four platoons of mounted infantry, 5 T-90AMs, six mortars, a mounted grenade launcher platoon, and an igla platoon and a Tunguska for AA.

I don't have a very advanced plan.  Essentially move forward and see how the match develops from there.  But I assume the major objective will be the main contest and the minor objectives won't be very contested.  I send two platoons of infantry, the T-90AMs, and the grenade launchers to the center.  I send a platoon of infantry on each flank, one to secure my minor objective, the other to contest his minor objective if possible.  I dismount my platoon that is securing the minor objective since it is rather exposed, the BMP-3s will be first to the objective.

Damn!  I lose two BMP-3s at the same time and I don't even know what killed them, looks like tank rounds though.  Good thing I dismounted.  This doesn't change my plans but I do am now aware of how dangerous the area around the minor objective is.  Going to move my infantry platoon in the forest next to the minor objective.  I spotted a Tunguska while the rest of my units move forward uneventfully.
Next post will be soon, either tomorrow or the day after.

HerrTom reacted to John Kettler in Anticipatory post for CM:Stalingrad!
After I mentioned Pavloc's house over on the CoC board on FB, one of the guys essentially said the story of Pavlov's house was propaganda. When I asked for evidence, he sent me this link to a massive discourse on the whole situation, complete with photos and Russian CC film clips. The amount of information here is overwhelming, but I thought it would delight the troops. The carnage is sobering (a battalion down to 18 effectives), showing how truly close the Germans came to taking Stalingrad, and there's grog chrome galore, too. Nets on upper story windows on German buildings to keep out incendiary bottles, for example. And did you know Serjeant Pavlov took the house with only three other frontoviki? They were its sole garrison for a time, and the buld-up began from there. All in all, this Reddit is a marvelous resource for what I'm sure is a CM game people dream of (or wake up sweating at the thought of it). There is a great deal more at the link, including a lot of amplifying remarks, corrections to the article's translator, comments about being respectful to the fighters and more. All in all, quite the education!

    Fair use
    Regards,

I'd suggest the following reasons as well:
Different schools of thoughts: ex-Soviet military school is very much about maneuver warfare whereas Syria is still stuck somewhere in the past long gone. This defines commanders decisions. Road network and transport platforms in Syria. Road network is very much hub-and-spoke of highways and cities. Fighting platforms come in the form of civilian 4WDs and civilian buses and trucks provide for transportation. Since they require quality roads so it makes the task of controlling transportation hubs so important. Syrian war turns a "real" all-out war only in the very brief periods of intensive fighting (if at all...). Fully encircles cities of hundreds thousands live in full encirclement for years. That means encirclement does not mean real sealing out - an absurdity from a military point of view. So why practice maneuver if it does not give any advantage? All points are IMHO...

Found this on Tank Archives while trying to chase down something else. This is chiefly about MOUT and is essential reading if you would understand how the Soviets dismantled German defenses via CA tactics and organization. They were meticulous.

An important thing to distinguish is that a MRR also has an engineering battalion attached that can bridge that secured bridgehead with MT-55s and TMMs carrying pontoon bridges in an hour.  So their range extends by the (admittedly limited) throughput of those light bridges.  Presumably the next mission would be to capture the nearest real bridge!

I think you have a great point John. A fatigue feature which affects more than just running speed would come with a very welcome yet drastic change in gameplay.

Exactly. While he seems to have gotten better as he has gained experience in this field, his earlier efforts are hobbled by all the things he doesn't know. This leads him to make shallow and misguided conclusions at times. As is sometimes said of books about the war, these shows are okay as an introduction to their subjects for those new to them, but should not be relied on as an authority.

Nah - while I appreciate his efforts, the video is full of errors and he comes to the wrong conclusions. You have to be very careful with all those Youtube prophets. While invading the Soviet Union in 1941, Hitler wasn't that preoccupied with oil as the author suggests. Hitler was formed by the WW1 experience of hunger caused by the naval blockade, so his main goal was to create an agrarian empire. So he was mainly going for the black earth of Ukraine. At the beginning of Barbarossa, Hitler's main objective was not Caucasus but Leningrad. Then in the second place Ukraine and Caucasus and on the third place Moscow. The 2nd Panzergruppe was turned south not to capture Caucasus but to liquidate the Soviet forces around Kiev ( which was a sound decision ). As to the 4 months fuel stocks theory, the operation Barbarossa failed not because the Germans ran out fuel. Actually none of the major German defeats like Moscow, Stalingrad, Kursk, Ukraine 43 or Bagration was caused by this reason. The main reason why Germany lost the war, was that Wehrmacht bled to death in the Eastern Front and eventually got defeated by the Red Army. The oil shortages were severely affecting German war waging capabilities from the second half of 1944, when the war was already lost. As to the inability to access the the main world oil sources of USA, Wenezuela, Middle East and Soviet Union, it meant that the Third Reich never had a chance to win a global war, but the reasons why they actually lost, were different.

Having some fun with this. Sheet shows a grey background so that it can be read against the forum's white bg, but the final product will be white.
Not 100% sure I've got the hulldown command properly correct here, feel free to correct me.

@Oleksandr's thread on tactics got me thinking...
I've always hated the current CM manual style. I'm heavily trained & experienced in visual design so I thought, well, why not?
So I'm now redesigning and formatting the manual in a tongue-in-cheek FM-001 style, in InDesign.
    COVER SHEET:

Obviously that's my own CM:BS logo. I was a bit lazy and don't have the correct, official one handy.
Still, this gives you an idea....
