  1. Hi all, I have been playing mt first Russian mission, I love Russian hardware and I want to learn how to use them well in CMBS. The mission I have chosen is Gagarina Ave Checkpoint and I have been asking myself if what is the problem with my Russians as they seem to spot much less than the Ucrainians; I have created an scenario (same map as Gagarina) with loads of Ucrainian, Russian and US vehicles in order to run some tests. The US and Ucrainians are on the Ucrainian start zone and the Russians in the Russian start zone. So far after about 2 hours of testing (not so many tests, maybe two of each type) I have found that: - BMP-3 are moles (not BMP-3M, I just tested the same ones as in the scenario), without any crew they have a really hard time to spot things that sould be reaaaally easy to see (BMP-1U 600 meters ahead on the road, lolz). - BMP-1U are sweet, they can spot reasonabily well and they punch nice, now I want to play Ucrainians, I wasn't very interested. - BMP-3 with some crew spots much much better. Also - T-90A spots not so bad but it takes its time : ( - T-90AM spots reaaally nice - Ucrainian tanks aren't as good as the Russians but they are good enough. And.... - Abrams spot INSANELLY well, they can shot anything no matter if they see it or not, if there isn't a mountain between you and the Abrams you are NOT safe Don't believe me? The reason for these tests was also to know better the capabilities of each army, I was sending three T-90 up a road while sending two oblots and a bulat up another road, both roads intersect (the road to the left of the Russians); they were going to clash and I wanted to see if Russian armor could spot them so much better and own them easily. While the T-90 were on the road BAM, one is destroyed long before the Ucrainian taks could see it, OMG, one of the Abrams in the starting Ucrainian zone, separated from the T-90 by 2-3 squares of dense forest spotted it and destroyed it!!!! WTF, I thougt it was a bug and I saved the game. I resumed the test and while I was testing ZAM, another T-90 gets nailed by the same Abrams... It was also 1 km away from the Abrams separated by the thick forest. Afteer thinking it I see that I have a US sniper team in a house with vission of the whole battlefield, maybe the sniper team is comunicating with the Abrams and giving it info about the T-90 but there is no way the Abrams can see them. SO, overall results of these weak tests. 1 - In plain day Russian and Ucranian soldiers spot about the same, Russian tanks spot better, BMP-3 and probably BMP-2 are bad spotters and you can't trust them, this may be the case in real life so if Battlefront thinks so I think it's ok. 2 - I have to run some tests on US armor and soldiers. 3 - Is there a way to send the scenario and the savegame to BF? I really don't think that Abrams can spot anything in the other side of that forest. This said, one of the T-90 fired on the Ucrainian start zone without much vision and nailed two APCs (both zones are packed with vehicles), just not through dense forest. Srry for the long post, hope it has been constructive. EDITED, just wanted to add that in the first mission of the US campaign my abrams seemed to spot just right, in fact I was shocked of how well Russian tanks spot.
  2. Very fun Bud_B : D What are you using for all that comic stuff? I'd love to make some screens with that.
  3. Just wanted to say that this post is great, I am learning a lot : ) The A-10 is sexy but the reasoning of tyrspawn and JonS seems more correct, if you are the USAF and you have to send your pilots into a deadly environment you want to send them with the best assets that you can afford, hence not the A-10. It seems that there are reasons for having the A-10 arround, if you need CAS in a much more safe environment the A-10 can make a better job, but war vs Russia wouldn't be that safe environment.
  4. I have been playin CM for some time and this is the first mission I played in CMBS, I think it is a superb mission but not easy at all, it can overwelm new players. I think this mission relies on a 3:1 Russian superiority in tanks, a 1.5:1 superiority in IFVs and about the same infantry for the two sides (I was scared as hell thinkng that after so many tanks, so many APCs I was yet to find a LOT of russian soldiers, this wasn't the case and almost all russian soldiers were alredy dead). The US have three things to make up for this superior numbers: 1 - Support, the US has UAVs and choppers, the russians have none. 2 - US soldiers are way superior, they have bigger platoons, have better APC support and have the finger-of-dead javelins. My soldiers were the main armor killers in this scenario, there aren't so many russian soldiers, so your Bradleys can crush them while your foot soldiers crush russian tanks. 3 - Will-Of-Odin Abrams, you have 4 and you can have reaaaally nice spots for them to dominate the battlefield. Still this is a difficult mission because the russians: 1 - Have the improved T-72, I lost an Abrams in each 1:1 duel I made with them (both destroyed the T-72 but got their main gun broken in the process >: ( ) bad luck, ok, but it can happen, these are no longer Syrian tanks. 2 - Have nice triggers for the AI, the russians will try to envelop you and they will try to CQB with you and whatever you make you will have to deal with nasty situations like 4 T-72 on the other hill, russian armor dashing trough point were you thought everything was ok, etc. Grrrrrreeaaat mission, I enjoyed it a lot and it stressed me a lot, when russians surrendered I thought I had still half the map to cover and just 24 more minutes, I thought I was going to have still a lot of casualties. Just use those javelins, that support and place those Abrams well, you will suffer but don't despair, you will make it. There are videos in youtube that you can check to get some ideas for this mission. Foot note. I play in Iron and when I called the choppers my Abrams and Bradleys in one hill started to laser warn like hell, I thought 'OMG russian chopper' and then a destroyed russian car was re-nuked.... WHAT?!?!? It was my own chopper, the stupid support mission came to the wrong hill, just in time for the T-72 to start taking the other hill. Stressssssssssssssful Good luck with the mission, enjoy.
  5. I just finished the first mission of the US army campaign, my soldiers sustained about 2 casualties by platoon, many were lightly wounded and during the scenario they where under artillery, tank and BMP fire (not everything the same squad obviously). They are the real killers in this scenario, they killed 5 tanks, two BMPs and some soldiers, many of these kills in close cuarters and under fire, just like in CMSF, my vehicles may fail but my US foot soldiers never fail. They don't behave like cowards under no circunstances, they are though nail-chewing people, if you put them in the open against a well covered enemy platoon this may change, OFC, I don't think thats unreallistic. (Little spoiler from here on) BTW my Abrams did much worse than I expected in this mission, the T-72 (what will happen agains T-90?!?!?!?!?) where able to spot faster and shoot first. Even when on of my Abrams spotted a T-72 first on one of those duels the T-72 shooted first disabling his gun and giving me a very expensive Vickers tank >: ( bad luck? Cause I had some of it in this mission.
  6. Just want to clarify that my post was just my personal oppinion, I don't really care for the british army module; to be honest I would buy it and play it but I find that modules cost too much money if you are not really interested in the content. A french-only module would also be unappealing, but if you mix it with German army and another army it would be nice, I love German hardware.
  7. Hi fellas, first post in the forum, long time CM user, long time without playing before CMBS, back in the track, - We love you Djiaux + Thanks I think the following regarding modules Marines - Probably gonna happen no matter what everyone says, playing marines in SF was fun and Americans without so many javelins will probably be more challenging against Russians NATO - I really hope that this happens, Germany, Polland and France are the ones I would love to see, probably France is the more work-intensive but I would LOVE to see those Leclercks, I would LOVE to play those mighty retreats. Germany vs Russia where_have_you_been_all_this_time_love? Is a must I think. This is the module I am going to buy for sure. Separatists - While I would like to see the real conflinc in a game... I'm not sure... now playing BS i see the problem with SF, the boredom of great superiority at times. It should be a separatists vs weak Ucrainian army without much Russians or Americans, but that would be too real and too sad. Not sure about those. British - Own module so I can pass plz. About what other forces should be included in the red side... no idea, what can we add to the Russians appart from irregular forces? That big_Tzar_tank everyone talks about? Really no idea.
