  1. As an owner of BOTH games, I can confirm they are entirely separate games. The GMT "A World at War" is an absolute MONSTER theater level World War 2 game. It takes literally DAYS upon DAYS to complete the entire war. As the boardgame geek playtime eludes, plan on needing around 48 hours of play time. The Lock n Load "World at War Series" is a series of games, the premier of which being being Eisenbach Gap with expansions and stand-alones. That is a company level game set in the summer of 1985 during a fictional World War 3. As for my link, I apologize for violating forum rules but I don't easily see a way to edit my post. I'll try again, but if not perhaps the mods can just remove the link but leave the rest.
  2. Your link is indeed to GMT's World at War game, however that's not the game you're talking about. The one you're talking about is the World at War series by Lock n Load Publishing. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgamefamily/3203/world-war-series Here is the official store page: http://store.lnlpublishing.com/world-at-war I highly recommend this series, there's even a little homage to the novel Team Yankee for those that are nostalgic.
  3. are there any rumors or announcements of expansions? NATO perhaps??
  4. Is this actually modeled in CMSF? I was talking in-game.
  5. I will buy any module for CMBS. Poland & Germany would be cool. I'm most excited for Canada.
  6. personnel setting is airburst fuzing, armor is impact fuze. general is a mix of both.
  7. I would love to see CMBS become more of a toolbox for modern scenarios.
  8. even just quick battle maps with winter terrain and conditions. good enough for me! now it gets me thinking, autumn and spring terrain would also be nice. too much?
  9. Obviously any tank or modern IFV is a threat to a Stryker but they *can* used....very carefully. If you're going to move, smoke your advance and race up to your intended position. Disembark then find a good hiding spot for your strykers. Treat them like an M113, just a battle taxi.
  10. I'm not sure if we have enough reliable data on the Armata to include. I suppose with super high rarity and some guesswork it could be a neat 'what-if' addon. Please don't leave out: Canadians A-10C Warthogs Cluster/DPICM????
  11. to be honest, I think the best way to use the MGS is to think of it as a 105mm direct fire 'mortar'. Keep it back while your infantry and strykers push forward. The ideal scenario is you find a stubborn enemy infantry group in a building off your axis of advance. bring up MGS, boom. threat removed, carry on. theyre also great against technicals.
  12. one of my all-time favorite books as a teenager was Team Yankee. A story about an American armor company during WWIII in the late 80s. It was that book that inspired me to into military service and wargaming. I even had the Team Yankee board game. (hex & counters) CM BS feels like a spiritual successor to Team Yankee. There are enough WW2 games out there to fill many hard drives (great ones too, mind you) and 'modern' scenarios often seem relegated to the Call of Duty garbage of late. Nice to see something genuinely academic. I'm excited to see more. Battlefront.....my paypal account is ready.
  13. Canada was angling towards the MGS in the mid 2000s but given even the LAV/Stryker's weakness against RPGs they opted for new MBTs ala Leopard 2A4M and 2A6M. On the flip side, Canada will be converting 33 older LAVs into LAV ISC (infantry section carrier) armed with a remote weapons station, effectively making them slightly smaller Strykers.
  14. that would be so awesome! Let it snow!! The day I can play Canadian Leopards in the snow vs Russian T-90s will be magical!
  15. I think they should be included in the game. The game is set only 2 years from now and even IF the full fleet of A-10s was retired in that short time, you could imagine some being pressed back into service for a situation like this. Besides, how hard would it be to add them along with a future update?
  16. A very interesting article. Experts have said recently "poker, not chess is Putin's game". He's proven to be very good at this 'new' game, but the German angle does add some thought. To stay on topic, I look forward to seeing more NATO units, along with new OPFOR units in CMBS.
