Looks like that it's not really possible to instillate training where there are too many lacking basic features and requirements.
This brings up the can of Worms of giving advanced weapons to untrained hands.
I think it was politically motivated measure. US needed Iraq army to takeover after they pulled out, so they had to train and equip it.
Visibility of functioning army was needed more than actually functional army.

So, basicly it turns out that ordinary ammunition storage inside Abrams could not blow turret off tank, right?
-
Their isn't much to really go on here except a picture of a turret. Do we know the wreckage in the background is what it came from? What if wasn't blown off but just removed for salvage or something?
If it was a turret blowout maybe the crew just wasn't following proper anti-flash procedures.
Yes, that is possibility.
Is it possible to lose turret simply by not not closing doors of ammunition compartment?

An interesting photo of destroyed Iraqui M1A1M: http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/imp_navigator/17993765/280115/280115_900.jpg
Interesting thing is that turret is blown off and lies several meters away. That puzzles me. Previously I thought that this is possible only if ammunition is stored inside turret, but Abrams has it's ammunition is stored in special compartment.
Another possibility is IED, but it kicks whole tank upwards, not only turret.
Any explanation?

Actually, Bulat is most recent T-64 version. T-64BV is obsolete in comparsion with Bulat.

Cute. Please point to the countries forced into NATO at gunpoint, or annexed into a western county post 1900 or so? Or the fact that generally historical malfeasance is something the West looks down on (see Germany) while it's something that Russia still holds up as national epic heroism.
I mean it's worse than Japan in terms of being unapologetic for historical crimes and ills. And that's saying something/likely indicative of why Russia has no friends that are not totalitarian crapholes.
We can dwell into discussion about western military activity, but this will take us nowhere. Simple fact is that you and I view things very differently and can't agree on that matter.
So, let's put it that way: in Russia many people (me included) see many of recent western military campaigns as unlawful acts of agression against sovereign countries. So lectures from western countries (or western citizens) about respecting international law is not something Russians like to hear.
P.S. BTW, that's have nothing to do with military parades
-
The Soviet and then Russian military has a distressing tendency to find itself on the wrong side of the border with its neighbors. Either it's a fairly consistent historical malicious intent or a total inability to land-navigate, either of which are highly unacceptable. Then it tends to hold military capability and "strength" up as virtues while still slipping further and further behind the rest of the world at large in things that matter.
It'd be nice if Russians stayed on the right side of the internationally recognized borders (and were honest about doing so), or stopped pretending their military was relevant, or appropriately sized and funded vs their GDP and role in the modern world.
I completely agree with you. It would be nice if every country abstain from bombing, invading or messing directly or indirectly with other countries.
Because, you know, not only Russians have problems with geography
-
So are authoritarian militaristic states that have significant problems with geography.
I do not find either of those to be really acceptable.
What problems do you mean exactly?

Try playing "Horst Wessel Lied" while watching the footage, the resemblance is uncanny. I think I'd be less annoyed if this was just every T-34 shaken loose from storage for an actual "commemorate and pretend we learned something from 1939-1945" parade, but it's just another example of small men playing with their toys now. The feeble grasps at legitimacy also ring pretty hollow.
I think it's quite on topic to question the parade in general, and also interesting that specially picked units to show off Russian might supreme caught fire. It's just additionally poetic considering the employment of that particular brand of weapons system too.
I think you're overreacting a bit Military parades is our tradition. Political background is not very good this year (when was it perfect?), but there is really nothing unusuall.

Chassis commonality:
Armata tank clearly has a rear engine (based on overhead shots, upstream).
Amarta IFV has a front engine.
If you look close enought you see that IFV chassis is the same as tank one just driving backwards

Guys, I don't get all that whinning about ugliness. For me all these vehicles look absolutely fantastic with all those stealthy surfaces, sensors and multiple launchers.
As one guy pointed out, they are looking really futuristic, Battletech-like
-
a- The author of the text was not aware of "medium tank" beeing an onsolote classification.
b- They (the Russians) are planning for a heavier model of a tank that is still a secret.
c- The T-14 is classified as "medium tank" because it is signficantly lighter than its western counterparts.
Needless to say all of the above is pure speculation.
Personally, I bet on "a"
-
One thing puzzles me: why T-14 is called a "medium tank" on that picture?
-
Haven't obsetved this in 1.03 still.
Anyway, I don't like my infantry wasting AT rockets against enemy infantry in covered in buildings. They have enought capabilities to supress and destroy soft targets without wasting precious AT warheas.
-
If I understand correctly, he means that the infantry aren't prioritising their HE rockets when they have them against infantry. This might be a good idea, as if you knock out the infantry you have more left for armour. Is this with the 1.03 patch?
Nope, that was 1.01
-
Recently I've obseved strange behavior of my infantry squad. It was engaging in firefight with enemy squad. Antitank guy has first loaded and launched OG-7 frag rockets which was absolutely logical. But then he fired AT rocket at enemy squad. That has puzzled me a lot because he had "HE rockets" in inventory.
Should the be considered as a bug or it is legitimate (whilst stupid) infantry behavior?

I've found Russian translation of German article:
Russian: http://inosmi.ru/world/20150427/227744613.html
Main point of article: Geman Leopard 2 tanks can not defeat modern Russian armour (T-80, T-90) with their obsolete tungsten carbide-based APFSDS rounds.

Alexey K,
If you want the RPG-30, this would suggest it's a good idea to play with Rarity off! No subsequent buys?
Regards,
John Kettler
I have no idea
-
Honestly I haven't seen it much lately, but I have seen it. Do you have a save that could be used?
Once during a game in RT I watched a guy "fly" onto a vehicle. That was pretty cool while also being kung fu movie goofy.
Yes, I have one. But how to attach it?
-
I'am constantly observing weird behaviour of my men during embarking to and APC or IFV. Loading into BTR are worst of things. Single soldier can run around vehicle five or six times trying different doors until finally getting inside.
I mean, it is "common sense" that Russians drink vodka all the time, but beleive me NOT THAT HARD!
Is this a common/aknowledged bug?
-
Steve,
There were similar problems with old RPG rounds in Iraq. My brother George did a combat tour there and had the opportunity to play with an RPG-7 during some downtime. He refused to join in, for significant numbers of explosions had happened when firing them and he thought enemy fire was more than enough of a hazard to his wellbeing!
While we're on RPGs, would you please tell me why the RPG-30, clearly seen and imaged on Spetsnaz in Crimea, isn't in the game? At least, that's what the manual shows, since it stops at RPG-28. I'd think a weapon specifically designed to defeat APS protected MBTs would be germane to CMBS. Or is the RPG-30 only issued to Russian Spec Ops and similar?
Regards,
John Kettler
Russian wiki says that in 2013 one thousand pieces of RPG-30 were purchased for army (Southern and Central military districts).

Thank you for answers.

When all you have is a light platoon then yeah, they're support assets. Just like an M240 or AGS team is a support asset. This one is more mobile. I'm not expecting to survive every engagement, or long ones. But if I have my vehicle positioned well 250m behind my guys and Ukrainians still shoot the gunner in the first burst every time, something is suspect.
Gunner on top of jeep should be highest and most visible target in this case. Quite expectably they attract fire.

I've read an article that said that old cadre of Hussein's army was dismissed and many of them have found their way to ISIS ranks, which created two interconnected problems: good experienced soldiers fighting against new Iraqui army and lack of competence in army. Is it right?
