  1. In Europe I think we used it related to people onboard aircrafts. At least that's what we did with infantry doing air assault. Which had been counted on a flip chart as PAX in the staging area.
  2. I also think a shift in the balance of powers is essential for nearly any major conflict to break out. And economy by itself helps provoking a war in certain circumstances. If it feeds into the primary causes and disputes.
  3. sorry I meant 2-2.5 km per hour of course. I'm not good with numbers and it also was a quick and rough estimate so take that with a pinch of salt but I found the coincidence was still kinda interesting. oh yeah, they messed that up pretty badly. they didn't see what was in front on the side and in the rear and got handled that way.
  4. What struck me the most by your comparison of the old prussian doctrine and russian motorized and mechanized forces performance on the battlefield is to remind me that speed without proper combined arms is very old warfare indeed. If you look at the Blitzkrieg as the culmination of old prussian doctrinal warfare and pick the breakthrough at Sedan and advance to the channel as a classic example and compare it to the US army 1st InfDiv advances through Iraq during Desert Storm and then compare it to the Russian advances in the first three days. Then you'll come up with the same estimate around 2-2.5 km per day operational tempo for every operation although the outcomes of the first two and the later were vastly different. I think what makes it different from a modern style fighting besides the doctrine is to sustain the tempo over a prolonged period of time which the Russians failed to achive.
  5. I think thats true, if we we are in the realm of communication here, as like war is to communicate things. Then a reason could partially be that there is no recipient of protests right now. So who are the protests going to communicate with? Putin? He's already full of himself. The Russians in Russia? There was a huge effort being taken by their government to isolate them from real world information and to pour propaganda onto all channels. So they are hardly reached with this idea. I mean one could also ask why aren't we protesting right now on the streets with hundreds and thousends of people against the war like during the Vietnam war for example. In the first weeks I thought protest also needed time to establish and to become a movement, but time has gone by more than enough now. So maybe the only recipient right now are our leaders and we don't want them to stop supporting Ukraine. So who is left? Maybe partially the internet as some sort of public area where you can show off your attitude, but then again your kinda stuck in that harmonized mind bubble with no recipient at all. And partially there are still supporters for the war after all as sad as it is because them being the ones being oppressed too by the very group they support as The_Capt stated.
  6. It really is Russias next step. Since the beginning of the conflict I was asking myself why isn't Russia going all in as soon as things went south with the operation. since they already knew their plans and everything else really were already on fire. I asked myself ist Putin different from other autocrats in not playing va banque, like hitler once stated and going all in on things. even though he knew the war is going to be a high risk endavour (Ive never seen Putin so nervous like on his war speech before) I thought he could still be trying to keep an exit door open even if its at a loss. And I was curious in how is he going to move himself out of the situation? Well it seems he and others are trying to go all in on a lost cause and sealing their political fate, doing it step by step instead. So now Im asking myself how long can you keep things on a rationale when following down that road? Because this is no way out strategy really. Beetz
  7. yeah, it's really minor and I'm already very happy with combat missions high fidelity as is. Nice sources btw
  8. As an additional explanation for the appearence of the boxes, I think they were introduced because of a redesign of the backside interior that came with the 1a5 model. So some of the equipment had to be stored outside. good point. it also makes me wonder about the standard rarity rating given in the unit selection screen.
  9. Hello everyone, since the Marder IFV had it's 50th anniversary last week I wanted to point out some minor visual details regarding the differences between the 1a3 and 1a5 model. Currently both models look similar in game. Code-wise the 1a5 has its improved mine protection working though. So if you take a closer look at the attached images the 1a5 model should have: new armored skirts three metal boxes, one on the front and two on the backside new MLC, 42 instead of 37 kind regards picture sources: http://www.primeportal.net/apc/hans-hermann_buhling/marder_1a_5/index.php?Page=1 http://www.d13pfad.de/media/medialibrary/2012/05/schutzenpanzer_marder_1_a5_thumb_1500x1500.jpg
  10. In the barracks I shared my space with someone who had the ATB Milanschütze and I remember talking with him about his course. And what he told me about firing the Milan was that after firing it does take a few seconds until the rocket is center lined and you had to avoid obstacles like fires or trees. I suppose it's initial speed is slower than the average but it would still travel over hundred meters in 2-3 seconds. Could you still fight a closer target? I don't know. Unfortunatly I didn't ask him about minimum range. Other than that I only looked through it's thermal sight so I'm of no help here.
  11. Exactly. The MG 3 was never meant to be scrapped, it's now getting replaced by the MG 5. When the MG 4 was first issued it was meant to be an addition on a squad level basis. The 7,62mm caliber MG 3 should be kept due to the better piercing capability and rate of fire. Back in the days there were the so called STAN lists where every weapon and soldier assignment of a unit was listed but weapons nor equipment can be supplied in an instant. So in some circumstances it takes years until a unit gets the equipment that's listed on paper. So sometimes it's a bit of a mess, especially if your battalion is stationed in Germany because new equipment gets prioritized downrange. But I'm okay with it if everything in game is how it was on the list back in 2008.
  12. That's a little incorrect. I served until 2006 in a PzGrenBtl and from then on in a JgRgt and the Panzergrenadiers are as much infantry as you can get I can assure you that. We were wearing the green color everywhere (Litzen, Barett) just like the Jägers too and were trained similar to them with the addition to fight combined arms around the marders. And the Grenadiers are also using the MG4 of course. Just as an example: kind regards Beetz
