  1. Red Star/White Star! That brings back memories. I loved playing modern era even back then when that was released by SPI.  I loved the Mech War 2 series, Firefight, Nato, the Modern Quad battles. Great stuff.

But Black Sea is the bomb. No counters to knock around or lose, no cat deciding that the inter-german border is a good place for a nap.

LOL, play Black Sea, and you have to very rapidly accept the mindset that vehicles will fireball Pretty Damn Quick, and often with no visuals (or even idea) on the enemy unit (and if you are really unlucky, no idea even of the ordnance involved!!!). Otherwise a/. your head will end up in the monitor or b/. the monitor will end up wrapped around your head..... :o

After that, the plinking and brew-ups in the WW2 titles are quite mild in comparison! :P

    Welcome aboard Banjohero.

Anyone who has seen a BMP-3 explode in Black Sea knows what gnarly is talking about!

  3. It's the same situation as using MG ammo bearers in the WWII games. As long as the MG team and the ammo bearer team are within a certain distance of each other the ammo bearer team will resupply the MG team. In this case the Bradley, BMP, Etc is the ammo bearer team.

I like taking an extra belt of MG ammo and all the RPG grenades I can when I am playing UKR or Russian. You never know when the extra ammo will come in handy.

  4. Please beware that the game does not was not designed to reflect the the current and near-past situation but is a simulation of near-future conflict. That being said you certainly do red on red or blue on blue quick battles. I think the demo has one infantry on infantry urban battle. If it is the one I am thinking of it is a lot of fun!

According to BFC the next expansion will feature US Marines, Redfor VDV and probably more US, Russian and UKR forces. I am voting for the Polish army to make an appearance. Interesting mix of western and russian equipment.

  5. The problem is that in a real war, the air force wouldn't be able to provide a 100% cover for the land units all the time. A Gulf War I situation would be highly unlikely. During the Cold War the US AD was weak in comparison to the Soviets but now it's practically non existent, due to the cuts and structural changes. Obviously AD wasn't that important fighting the insurgents in Iraq or Afghanistan. US military brass recognizes the problem and for the moment is even looking to use the AA assets of the allied armies. There was a talk about a new AD variant of Stryker.

Hi Ivanov,, this has been discussed in other threads by those far more knowledgeable then I. As soon as i find it again i will post the link if you are interested.

  6. I hope that BMP makes it across the ford! Nice gamble with the Oplots.so far.

I fell your pain on playing UKR forces. i much as i enjoy playing the underdog (and they are No3 in this game) its frustrating trying to spot anything with your infantry at night or in less than perfect visibility. Even an advanced tank like the Oplot seems to have less capable sensors then a T-90. I recently had 3 Oplots in light fog with perfect LOS and target commands on 3 T-90s at the end of one turn. Guess who fired first???

How is the LOS from your bogged Oplot?
