  1. My vote for best, most accurate WW2 movie is 'Das Boot'. That movie has got the claustrophobic feeling and the long hours of boredom you would encounter on any submarine in the war. The director actually forbade the cast to go out in the sun for 6 months so they would have a natural palour about them without using makeup.
  2. Read C. Ryan's 'The Last Battle'. In fact read all of his books, 'A Bridge Too Far' and 'The Longest Day'. A much better writer and historian then Ambrose. In particular his account of German POWs getting their throats slit in retaliation for Deippe by Canadian troops on D-Day. And this was published in 1959.
  3. Battle of Britain was a nice movie for its time. The main attraction was the warbirsd of course. When I said BOB I was actually referring to Band of Brothers
  4. I agree that, aside from the beginning and end battles, Saving Private Ryan was standard Hollywood fare. Please tell me what glorified Hollywood rubbish you found on BOB.
  5. Reminds me of an ACW artillery demo where an overweight, white-bearded reenactor told the crowd 'the average Civil War infantryman was 20 and weighed 130lbs. The average reenactor is 3 times that age and twice that weight.'
  6. Great! More reading material. Downloading the Hurtgen Forest and Tobruk books now. Thank you for the great find!
  7. That is why I haven't noticed any impact in rarity cost, I almost always use standard (common) formations on strict rarity setting.
  8. I haven't noticed any change in rarity cost vis a vis increased experience and motivation. But then again nearly 99.999 per cent of the time I play with strict rarity. I think the rarity cost is equipment dependent only.
  9. I haven't had time to run through the entire scenario but I like the feel of it and the mods certainly help in the effect!
  10. It all part of BFCs plan to extend existing WW2 titles to the end of the war as they have stated. Then Black Sea gets more toys and organizations to play with. And Italy has an entirely different feel to it that I like. All of that before they start moving backwards thru the years.
  11. I don't believe it effects rarity but the cost of more for better trained and motivated troops
  12. Wasn't there also a new CROWS being worked on also for it?
  13. I would do it but I can't commit to that deadline schedule. As several have already stated keep it open for a few days. We are just finishing a holiday weekend here in the US so many people are busy traveling and just enjoying the un-official start of summer.
  14. To most GIs everything piece of artillery was an '88' and every tank was a Tiger. I know my uncle who was at St. Lo said his outfit was hit hard by 88s when it was obvious he was talking about indirect fire.
  15. Marked mines can still be deadly. It is best to move through them at a slower speed, like hunt or slow. I use move only if I am certain the moving troops won't take fire since their reaction is to speed up to quick and it may cause them to set off even marked mines. Sappers and engineers can detect mines in the AS they are in and as long as they are not moving at quick or fast have a good chance of not setting any off.
  16. The deadlines you have proposed do seem a little tight if you are playing against someone in a time zone 8 hours or more ahead or behind you. Even a short 15minute game could take 30days to complete.
  17. Most of Kursk was the Germans trying to break through the deep Russians defences. Lots of tanks were involved in the southern attack and the Russians had even more tanks but the huge tank at Prokhorovka, as related from the Russian side and repeated and repeated, was shown to be false in the late 70s.
  18. Black Sea is a sheer blast and a joy to play. I was waiting for this one since they announced it. In fact it is the only game I ever preordered and I have all the CM2 titles.
  19. Only British officers may carry umbrellas or a suitable riding crop if they are the Polo type. It's a time honored tradition!
  20. This has been my issue all along reading this thread. What are Russia's goals in this? Is it to capture the city? If so for what reason? To do so would nullify all of Russia's advantages and commit suicide them into a costly fight for the city and fix them in place for Nato airstrikes. If it is to gain position at the bargaining table better to cordon off the city, cut its supplies and leave it behind the front lines. But if that is the goal (recognition of Russian control of eastern Ukraine) why spend the effort when and just go and isolate the capitol, Kiev.
  21. The last WW2 vet in my family passed away this past Jan. at the age of 97. My uncle went ashore on D-Day as an infantryman and stayed in the ETO until the end of the war. It is estimated that there are only one million vets left out of the sixteen million who served.
