  1. Update: I've tried it using Juju's walls foxholes and the "defensive works mod", since they're small static and quick to test, and it does work, overwrites and restores files or reverts to vanilla as necessary. I moved my existing mods folder out of the way first so CMRT didn't use them. The DCS guys have been using a new alternative OvGME, which works in the same way to JSGME, but stores mod files as zips and saves space. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=171956
  2. Try this. 1. Copy JSGME to C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Battlefront\Combat Mission\Red Thunder 2. Run JSGME. Either Use the default "MODS" or something like "Mod Store" to avoid possible confusion with the installed "User Data\Mods" folder 3.Copy any desired mod you want to use to the "C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Battlefront\Combat Mission\Red Thunder\Mod Store" folder 4. Navigate to the "Mod Store\[Desired Mod]" folder of the mod you've just copied to the "Mod Store" 5. Create New folder inside it and name it "User Data". 6. Open this new "User Data" folder. Create new folder and name it "Mods". 7. I would then move all the folders/files that are the desired mod from the "Mod Store\[Desired Mod]" folder to the new [Desired Mod]\User Data\Mods sub-folder you've just created. Steps 4-7 should "convert" a mod into one JSGME will work with. A similar process should work with the Data\Z folder and folder structure except JGSME would have to be installed in the main "\Battlefront\Combat Mission Red Thunder" game folder and "Data" and "Z" folder names would be substituted for "User Data" and "Mods" respectively
  3. Looking great here too. It must suck to be a perfectionist.
  4. Yep, such things could possibly add to the immersion. Like maybe if you're zoom in view to your squad, who are skulking through the bushes in the woods prior to any contact to have something like an blackbird alarm call trigger or an irritated robin or wren scold your troops for invading their territory. Probably means nothing to someone focused on the minutiae of the troops uniform and weapons for a given date and theatre, but something familiar and realistic to others with a mis-spent youth. I'll settle for background ambient sounds that sound about right, like no crickets at night in Northern Europe in Winter and bird or insect song that is similarly appropriate. No Bluejays or Virginia Cardinals, this WW2 Europe people, not a Hollywood backlot
  5. Quite correct, birds don't like loud noises by and large and will disappear in short order, but the CMx2 series only allows one ambient sound file, not a separate ones for pre-contact and during or post gunfire. Within these restrictions any ambient sound is a compromise if you put any wildlife sounds in it since the species that should be represented, the number heard, and overall volume should depend on time of year, time of day, geographic location, local habitat etc. The CM series is a tactical battlefield simulator, not a WW2 birding simulator, so it isn't really that much of a problem, just find an ambient sound that suits your personal preference for a particular encounter.
  6. Checklist of the birds of the Ardennes http://avibase.bsc-eoc.org/checklist.jsp?lang=EN&p2=1&list=clements&synlang=&region=FRch08&version=text&lifelist=&highlight=0 I think the only birds familiar to North Americans would be Common Starlings and House Sparrows which were European introductions into North America, the Mallard or the Canada Goose, the latter which is an American introduction over here, and only common (and noisy) in Winter around bodies of water. Since CMx2 series doesn't tie ambient sounds to specific places having geese or duck calls in the background during an urban firefight would be highly silly.
  7. Since CMFB covers December to April/May that's a large variance in ambient sounds. Snowy December might sound bleak with little to nothing in terms of birdsong. A clear sunny morning may bring song from the common resident birds of the Ardennes, maybe some blackbirds or robins, a wren or two or a Dunnock, some chatter from house sparrows around built up areas, or some contact calls of crows. A cold overcast morning you may just hear the crows. By April or May you will have the Summer visitors, so ambient sound mods like the birds of Jutland for CMRT with it's prominent Yellowhammer song is just as applicable for CMFB.
  8. Wow. The game isn't even released and Juju has a killer UI to show for it. Great work
  9. An alt+key toggle grid layer or overlay would be awesome. A shame it's not likely to be a future feature.
  10. By the sound of it he'd like an Alt+key to toggle the visible snow falling from the sky effect, rather than being able to change weather and ground conditions for a QB.
  11. I would imagine that a CM title set in a conflict that has been referred to as "The Forgotten War" would have less chance of appearing than a title on North Africa.
  12. General Nelson's pixeltruppen coined the name "Old Snowshoe". A plaque was made to replace the previous one, "Temporary Vacancies: Tank Commanders. Any volunteers appreciated."
  13. I hope the exploding monitor effect when occurring has been modeled correctly according to the calibre of weapon fired, and whether the round was HE or AP, if not there will be hell to pay.
  14. Yep postage costs as much again as the game. Will wait for Digital Edition.
  15. Just so long as there's not a news item with, "We've just added Ilya Shevchenko to the team", then we should be OK. The mythical "two weeks" it is.
  16. Cossack dance with tanks. Either too much vodka or the conscripts have been at the anti-freeze again.
  17. That explains his tiff with Russia and it's Oligarchs. I would have enjoyed the "Straight to the Gulag Comrade" Rollercoaster and the vodka and borsch concession stands, but sadly they're not to be.
  18. I just thought it was his hobby. Every man needs a hobby. As to the lateness of the release... Well there is definitely no retail dependency or pressure, that's for sure. I don't know how well BF do from seasonal sales. Regulars that are interested will buy it whenever it comes out. Other CM fans will also probably buy it later on, if they're not tired of the late war western front, since there is little competition. That other game we're not supposed to talk about has also just been released, so beat BF to it, although it has a very different flavour, with a very Eastern Europe style UI. There's no saying you can't buy or enjoy both, and the market is hardly saturated. I can wait.
  19. What's to be bitter about? It's cost you nothing other than a few extra hours on a forum you visit anyway. The only thing to have suffered is the burn out of any excitement from an anticipated release that is now overdue. It's not like there aren't other CM2x titles to play that are probably in your library. The Battle Pack has just been released, CMRT has some Winter clothes to try on, CMFI is having a North Africa makeover courtesy of some great modder work. You could sink hours in all of those and the latter two are free. There's nothing to be bitter about, a bit disappointed maybe but that's about it.
  20. Cool as. You'd have thought it would be announced as the top item on the homepage, instead of having to dig about in the store, or is that a work in progress? Direct Link to PC version of Battle Pack 1 Direct Link to Mac version of Battle Pack 1
  21. I was under the impression that the delay was due to the overhaul of the store system and site. Is this no longer the case? I've no problem in waiting while they polish the release. It's better than getting something and dealing with irritating bugs that will be fixed when the patch is out a month or so later.
  22. He was referring to the pair of Parus Major he'd just spotted in the nearby tree obviously
  23. It looks like he's suffering from a serious case of the schwalbes.
