Ivan Zaitzev reacted to SchnelleMeyer in DRA skins finished
So I finally finished the DRA skin mod after seeing that a new request was posted today.
They are not perfect, but they are a lot better than the originals. The mapping on these skins is not the best and that makes modding them to a good result more challenging.

You should be able to download it from here:  http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?wpfb_filepage=dra-skins_2-zip

Interesting! Thanks for the info! Afaik though, the engine can't handle firing ports (e.g. in modern titles with the IFVs)?
I've been playing CM for a long time, but I've come across this just now, analyzing why my squad was so bunched up in my current H2H game. I guess most of you already know (lol)?
In the crew/infantry UI-window, there is a maximum of three columns. For infantry, these columns actually represent squares occupied by the unit. The first/left column shows you the soldiers that are positioned on the "primary square" of the unit, the second/center column those positioned on the "secondary square" (if any) and the third/right column those on the "tertiary square" (if any). The "combine squad" order lets you concentrate more soldiers on fewer squares. E.g. with the "combine squad" order,  you can fill up empty slots in the first and second column with soldiers from the third to reduce the unit's footprint from 3 to 2 squares. Note that you can observe how the individual soldiers from the third column will move over to their new square/column individually. Each column can hold up to 7 soldiers. So, if your unit is stronger than 7 soldiers, it will take up 2 squares. Finally a tip: When splitting squads, make sure you never end up with a "7 men on one square" unit. It's horribly bunched up.

One of the guys on the CoC boards posted this little marvel. There seems to be a disagreement (see Comments there) as to the correct identity of the larger AFV, but regardless, it's a joy to see them, having only even B/W somewhat blurry wartime footage. These tanks are acoustically stealthy, shockingly so. Like that they're fully kitted out and the crews are, best I can tell, in proper uniform.

Any way we can get some screens of the new Uncons? It's been 50 days since the screen shots in the CMSF2 thread where Steve said they needed to be fixed. MikeyD has since stated they were fixed. It doesn't look like Bil is gonna have any in his AAR thread, so. I am only asking because I know @Sgt.Squarehead is dying to see them. I don't think he should have to suffer any longer than necessary.

Ivan Zaitzev reacted to John Kettler in Hot info ref WW II Italian infantry squad organization
A guy on CoC was asking about the Italians, and I mentioned to him the Italian squad fought as a single team. Man, did I get schooled! This is really important information, I believe, and I've asked him for references. TFL is Too Fat Lardies, the guys/firm which makes CoC.

Stephen Philp Actually the Italians did use teams. It's well documented. The 15 man squadras in the Beraglieri and Alpini broke down into a 5 man LMG group (gruppo mitragliatori) under the caporale and a 8 man Rifle group (gruppo fucilieri) under the sergente for the squadra. The 20 man groups in the Fucilieri regiments broke down into a 9 man gruppo mitragliatori commanded by a 'corporal major' with 2 LMGs ('machine rifles') and an 10 man fucilieri group. The whole squadra was commanded by a Suttofficiale. Some of the period docs are in the share. Others have been discussed at length on the TFL forum.

Sadly the game can't be modded in a serious and easy way, but if they would allow us to modify the ToE, all this issues would be resolved. Except the units using weapons not featured in the game, of course.

Ivan Zaitzev reacted to sttp in QB map pdfs
These are pdf's with large, labeled pictures for every QB map, covering CMFB, CMFI, and CMRT. I always get frustrated trying to remember which QB map is which, and having to load up the scenario editor just to find one gets really, really old. So I created these.
I'll eventually put these on CMMODS. As soon as I finish the CMBN one, which is a significantly bigger task, and has had to take a back seat to a different project I'm now invested in. So I decided to just post these here, now.
Can someone please let me know if these links work for plain ol' public download / access? If not, I'll repost proper links in a new thread. Dropbox recently got rid of its "Public Folder" feature, and the new way to accomplish almost the same thing is not very intuitive....
    Here ya go:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/jffokwaq2w017bj/CMFB - All QB Maps.pdf?dl=0
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/3l4xpbdhps0mgq6/CMRT - All QB Maps.pdf?dl=0

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/p9vhj33u708h0f9/CMFI - All QB Maps.pdf?dl=0
*NOTE:  the "lower quality" CMFI pdf is actually the same quality as CMFB's and CMRT's -- plenty good enough. The higher quality CMFI pdf was my first, though, and features lossless images... which is great, except that the file size is almost 300MB.

Ivan Zaitzev reacted to SgtDeadly12 in So I Recognized the Russian from the Installation Background...
I was installing Combat Mission Afghanistan when I recognized that the background picture of a Soviet soldier nearly being hit by a round in the installation menu looked very similar to another picture that I had seen of a U.S. Marine in Afghanistan. I did a little digging and managed to find the picture.

Here are the two pictures side-by-side for reference.

I originally saw the picture in a reddit thread about a year ago. Apparently the picture is of U.S. Marine Sergeant William Bee while he was taking fire from the Taliban in 2008. I thought it was somewhat fitting that the art for this game of a Soviet taking fire in Afghanistan was based on a U.S. Marine taking fire in Afghanistan decades later.

Whatever it is you woke up and started smoking this morning is some really good stuff, but I'd suggest laying off it.  You guys have a way of developing conspiracies that is pretty interesting, but so far off base that it stops being funny ands just becomes sad.  NZ project holding them up... pretty funny.  Not sure what the basis was for that conclusion considering that article linked to is over a year old.  As far as any of us knows they just went out and bought freakin copies of CMBS.  But then that wouldn't fit into the conspiracy theory.   Facts are such a pain in the arse.
As to understanding how to run a business.  Considering that they have been at it over 20 years and are still going strong it seems that most of you who think you know how to run one and have decided what the hallmarks of success are...   are ...well how do I put this... WRONG.  Not even just wrong, like totally out there in the ether stupid wrong.  Like so wrong that you look like that Midvale school for the gifted Far Side comic.
By the way I think the NZ gov't held up the contract because of 4.0 and decided it was un-playble.  No not really, but it was funny to think so.  Pull.

Seriously - wow. Steve is working hard on the products, as are other people. Another of his concerns is maintaining the relatively good atmosphere on these forums. In fact it is a necessary business strategy IMHO. If people here would refrain from trolling and other bad behaviour Steve could spend more time working on product. As is stands keeping poor behaviour in check *is* part of his job. Personally I find Steve to be *very* forgiving. If it was up to me there would be more banned people bad mouthing me on other forums

"Subversives" Episode 1 is a fast paced documentary covering Russian subversive operations against Reichskommissar for the Reichskommissariat Ukraine Erich Koch and his henchmen. He was responsible for the economic exploitation of all German occupied Russia, to include slave labor.  It has great historical re-enactment sequences, an array of real people, names, places, dates, maps, photos, chrome galore, some great footage of Russian armor (not best res, but probably unseen by most and of typical quality) and a deserved prominence of a guy named Sudoplatov running things from Moscow. As it happens, I know him as the author of Special Tasks.  His handiwork includes organizing the tracking down and spectacular killing of Trotsky. Found this on YouTube while looking for Russian GPW shows with English subtitles. Amazon Prime is using Season 1 for a bunch of them to hook viewers into buying subsequent seasons. One of the outfits doing these and doing them well is StarMedia, and this impressive doc series is theirs.
