mvp7 got a reaction from Five in in game replays?
Being able to view entire battles without fog of war and GUI elements would make combat missions a lot more YouTube friendly games and so directly more appealing to people watching those videos. If the file sizes would really be as large as womble estimates then that could be a major problem but I don't think the game necessarily has any inherent need to load all the action in one go as there is the real time mode which renders and calculates action on the go. Replays are not the most important feature to be had but it would be nice and maybe smart from marketing point of view.

mvp7 reacted to Ryujin in Evade command is actually super useful
This came up in another thread, but I think it deserves its own thread as it seems to not be widely known (at least I had no clue it was different from a normal fast move).

The point being after some quick tests it seems it's the "Don't Stop!" move I had been missing for a long time. Unlike a normal fast move the troops will try much harder to complete an evade move under fire.

So if your units get pinned in the open, an evade may get them on their feet and running to cover rather than laying there to be picked off.

But the really interesting thing is it can be used preemptively. You can use it to say run across a street with much less risk of them stopping in the middle and all being killed. You can even use it to charge an enemy if you're feeling a bit desperate/suicidal. Obviously because they won't hit the deck, they'll be very exposed standing and running. So use it wisely.

They also seem to stop to fire while carrying it out. I need to test it more, but it might work in some cases for an assault or room clearing move when you want them to keep going. Ironically, evade may be the closest thing to a proper 'assault' order...

The evade button is the 4 arrows '+' looking button next the to the 'M' button. When you press it it'll create a waypoint you can drag around. Try putting it on an enemy and watch your guys keep running under fire to see it in action.

Should save a ton of pixeltroopers, especially in urban combat.

EDIT: Also seems like you can change the waypoint type and it'll keep the effect. Not so sure about following waypoints after the first.

mvp7 got a reaction from Blazing 88's in A Question for Bill Hardenberger: how do not be overwhelmed when things start happening all at once?
We-go is the way. It often takes me 5-20 minutes depending on the mission size to plan and view just 1 minute of the game time. It's also much easier to follow what is happening on the entire front in the we-go as you can review the action as many times as you want.

mvp7 reacted to Spitzenhund in Can we have slightly more sub-forums?
I have a suggestion to make navigating for information slightly easier.

    1. Under the Maps and Mods subforum can we have one section for complete maps and mods and another section for incomplete maps and mods (so people can present what they have so far)

    2. A Multiplayer subforum, so that it's easier to find matchups.

    3. A Strategy and Tactics / AAR subforum. I find it a shame when AAR's or Strategy questions get buried by general user questions or statements.

Thank you. Your result is impressive. The best I have seen and some of the testers did pretty well but no one managed to loose only on soldier. Wow!

The friendly bonus is just a way to make sure if you cease fire early as the US you don't win. I forget if it is programmed for a draw or a loss if you cease fire early. Not big issue 'cuase who would want to do that? That is what it is for.

Go a head, good catch actually.

Try it from the Russian side and see if you can do as well.

I'm not sure about this.  I think the 2D editor allows for better editing of very large maps.

Yes, there's an automatic road helper.  You just click the button (looks like a diagonal, two-ended arrow) and then click your two endpoints.  We fill in the road between.  It's not perfect but it helps.

     Agreed.

It's an interesting idea.  I can't imagine how it would work, though.

It appears that they mostly use non encrypted voice over radio systems. Those and cell phones (though phone usage has decreased by a lot since summer).
Which is why they get Grad a lot.

Pro-Moscow militia are the number 1 on my wishlist for CMBS.

French and German troops would be interesting additions especially since we didn't have France in shock force.

Maybe some more elite units for Russians? They seem to be rather mid-tier troops in comparison to US forces which have all the newest and fanciest equipment available. Maybe GRU Spetsnaz to support the pro-Moscow militia? They would have some really interesting equipment like VSS Vintorez.

@dams-fr: deploying mines and dropping specials forces wouldn't make sense in the scale of CM missions. "Silent weapons" are already kind of included in the game if you mean suppressors. Mk. 21 snipers for US have them (but suppressors don't really matter that much in reality).

Note how the russian on the left side gets killed while throwing his grenade and drops it on his buddy to the left .

    Yes Mvp, I mean suppressors
For mines and SF jump ability, on reflexion, it seems to be bad ideas , you're right.

Militia would be a great add to the game, as much as brit/fr/ger troops.

mvp7 reacted to Sim1943 in More (Official) Small Scenarios
Topic pretty much says it all. Since the original release of CM:BN I have noticed that there are fewer and fewer 'small' scenarios in the CM releases.

By 'small' I don't mean literally the label that BFC uses in CM for scenario sizes - I mean a scenario that is both small enough in OOB and map size, and short enough in length, that I can sit down and, start to finish, be done in about 30 minutes. It seems there has been a gradual shift in average scenario size to get bigger, and bigger and bigger with each release of the CMx2 games. CM:RT is a prefect example: out of about 20 scenarios, only 3 of them were "small" or "tiny" (one was listed as small, but was a Bn sized engagement  ) ChrisND saying in one of his streams that the Morning Coffee was one of the 'small' scenarios in CM:BS only added to this impression: it was a big map, though to be fair, I didn't see the OOB.

I know there are tons of folks here who *love* Bn sized engagements that cover a 5km square map and last 2 hours of gametime, let alone how long it takes to actually play it. But, I would like to raise the voice of those of us who don't have that much time to invest into our games. Yes, I am well aware of the scenario editor and QB's, but until we get (if ever) the return of the CMx1 'Combined Arms' selection for QB's, I cant find much enjoyment in playing the AI because of its purchases.

I have never played a CMx2 campaign for this very reason. Though I hope to have time to play Paper Tigers campaigns some day!

So all in all, BFC and those who are officially designing scenarios, please include a nice helping of scenarios that are on the smaller size, both in OOB, map size and actual game time.

    Thanks

mvp7 reacted to Sergei in How to use reconnaissance vehicles?
This is the third thread I've seen lately asking about recon vehicles, so I'm just going to use the same response

"All recon vehicles are challenging to use in Combat Mission because they are intended for operational or grand tactical level reconnaissance, ie. to report to brigade HQ if there's enemy forces in an area the size of a CM map and if they are moving, blocking roads or such. After that they're just poorly armed and armoured vehicles with slightly better sensors than usual and should be used accordingly, ie. with special care."

If you have a huge map with large unoccupied areas then dedicated recon vehicles with good sensors may be of actual nominal use. But if not, ignore that they are recon vehicles and just consider their combat capabilities. Also be prepared to leave some of the vehicles in a safe place and use the crews for foot recon if it looks like a trap. Another thing is to think that cavalry's first objective is to determine where the enemy isn't, so don't send them headlong against where you suspect they will be but use them to secure flanks and approach avenues. Just sometimes you don't have that luxury...
