What's the big deal. Old guard, new guard, your opinion, my opinion. V 4 is better than V 3, V 6 will be better than V 5 and so on. Fun's a poppin', just play the bloody game, life is to short as it is.

Are we there yet? no.  Are we there yet? no. Sheesh, no it OBVIOUSLY isn't ready yet.   Let's stop pretending that them telling you it isn't ready yet is gonna be earth shattering news or going to help you make some important decision.

OK this has gone form sad to pathetic to vaguely insulting. So, time to stop taking the bait.
Bottom line is BFC decides how much they communicate. Your's and anyone else's unsatisfied expectations don't really change that. I'll see some of you in a different thread. Some likely never again

LOL when you set the policy for the company that you own then you can do that.
1 hour for a comprehensive article? 10 minutes for an update? You sound like every bad manager / project manager I have ever met . My stock answer is "there is no such thing as a one day task".

Not meant to pick on @BodyBag - but answering the questions based on his post At least as well as I can.
Nope. Technically not allowed to say that - certainly not saying more.

Welcome to the real world. BFC does not spend a lot of time communicating every little thing they are up to. Accepting that fact will help you avoid stress related injuries
Here is the thing, several people have harped on this really long time frame as if way back at the beginning everyone knew and BFC accepted there was a problem. That is simply not the case! Don't get me wrong I get that people had issues with the behaviour early on but that doesn't make it an obvious bug. The AI behaviour was intentionally changed. It made the game better in a few areas. One of the things that happens when you tweak the AI is side effects creep in. I for one still have mixed views on the AI decision to stay and fight vs pull back. Our pixel troops stick it out in a nasty fight for longer than I think real troops would - plus they press the fight forward more aggressively too. But that pulling back exposed issues with withdrawing pathing to a lot more daylight and then there is the game play consideration - it's no fun to play when no one will fight. So, bottom line there was not clear bug at the beginning just vague unhappiness.
After I some more serious testing by @IICptMillerII the issues was defined and got testers and then BFC's attention. That was August.

with Steve acknowledging the bug in October:

So nothing like 14 months of ignore a problem and not planning to do anything about it.
    Just so you all know....
Vague unhappiness defined by actual testing in August followed by an acknowledgement of a bug in October with a fix to come at some yet to be defined point. That is only six months elapsed time so far.

Thanks the for the praise above guys.
When I started there was really no one doing a dedicated channel for Combat Mission videos. (And certainly not in 1080p!) I looked at the many Total War channels out there and decided to copy that type of format "Let's Play" format. Just with the added bonus of me saying "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no..." and then cursing my pixeltruppen.
Probably now is the the best time to say it but anyone who follows my channel knows it's been dying a slow death over the past 12 months. Building a house and getting promoted at work means I've got less time then ever to dedicate to the channel. Having some more time designing scenarios would be great. Then there's the Australian 'Kangaroo Internet' issue. It takes anywhere between 8 - 12 hours to upload each of my AAR episodes at my new place. I may be able to get a connection upgrade later this year which might help, but in short Australian internet is garbage.
I have committed to finish the current Aachen campaign (from the excellent work of @benpark), but after that I may just upload little 'Action Moments' when something awesome occurs. If this is the end, well at least I know there's a new generation of excellent CM YouTubers to take the torch and I know for a fact (from comments and PM's I've received over the years) this little community grew a little bigger because of the channel, which can't be a bad thing.

I would consider myself to be a newbie and I do not understand this - / + post voting rating system. Is there any place on the forum that explains it"s intent or purpose. I have posted a few times but do not consider what others may think of my views or opinions when I create a post. I do try to not offend but the world is a varied place with many views. I can not remember if I have ever voted, up or down. It seems if someone is too off track they are vanquished anyway (which is probably a good thing). Just keep putting it out there and have a good time. Life is short enough as it is, as a famous man once said “don't sweat the thunder showers”

I don't find the new licensing system hard at all - you open that little app in the folder, type in your S/N and it all works. And since the switch to 4.0, I didn't bother patching and upgrading the old games, I just downloaded the new one off the website and registered that. Or am I missing something?
It used to be a bit fiddly to register games, but in the last year (I've registered bought 3-4 upgrades in that time), it's very easy.
I would like to see more modules, too, but I think the 4.0 upgrade is nice - the AI certainly seems better, and the new squad behaviour, which makes it often unnecessary to split squads, makes the game much more playable. Those and the new casualty counting methodology make quite a difference IMO.

    Hi guys
Even if i watch the forum every week, i don't find the need to post. I play all the games since the first CMBO and i still like it after all those years. Today i just found a channel on youtube that can be interesting especially for new players. It's called
    G.I. History Handbook
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFwP2RKKNYv7o8DJwYO9KxA
there are only 3 videos but i think they are very well made. I don't know if that was allready mentioned on the forum but i think it was great to share the link.
There is another reason why i decided to talk about those videos. On the video about infantry tactics there is an indication of the practical range of BAR automatic rifles.
With the last uppdate of the game, BAR and Bren have been limited to less than 200 m in automatic fire. I know that this was allready mentionned on another thread but i don't know  if
Battlefront answered to it, if it's a bug or not. I think this totally cripples allied infantry. German squads can use lmgs at 600 m or more and have an unrealistic advantage i think.
On the vidéo, it is indicated that lmg can be used on groups of men from 500 to 1 000 yards, 400 to 900 m. Rifles are used at about 400 m . In the vidéo it's at minute 10 and after.
I guess that for the Bren, it was more or less the same. I don't think that at long distance, those weapons shoot only single shot, especially at groups of men. I just hope that this can
    be changed in futur patch.
I hope that people will enjoy the link and that the maker of the video will keep is very good job. I wish there was something like this for other nations.
    best regards

Gafford reacted to A Canadian Cat in Allies - CMBN Buying The Farm - Crowd-sourced DAR
This is the thread for my half of the experiment with @Method Gamer. The plan is to have me on the attack against him defending in the scenario Buying the Farm.  The goal is for this to be a good introduction for new players to how to play the game. Clearly my goal will be to execute a well thought out attack and use good tactics but the main purpose is to illuminate "the how" of playing the game.  We want to show how to use the game commands to guide your troops to bring your tactical decisions to life.

I know @Method Gamer in real life and we have worked together in the past but keep in touch now.  We live about a 10 minute drive away from each other.  Between himself and @Dungeon Tiger they introduced me to the CM series.  One day outside @Dungeon Tiger's office I heard them talking about a new version of one of their favorite games that had just been announced.  I'm not a big gammer (I only play CM games and the odd game with my kids but that is it) but I love hearing their stories.  But when I head about Combat Mission I could not believe it. They were describing the game I always wanted to play (I gave up miniature war games long ago due to lack of players and rules that got in the way and never did much for the fog of war).  So we bought the CM1x games CMAK and CMBB and the three of us played them the whole time we waited for CMBN to arrive.  Once CMBN arrived we never looked back.  Except I lost them, a couple of times.  They both gave up and stopped playing and started again.  I think this is due to the steep learning curve with the CM games.  I also think that the changes away from borg spotting were another large issue that @Method Gamer and @Dungeon Tiger had trouble figuring out how to play.  @Method Gamer plays a lot of Eve Online (I totally love to hear stories from that game) where he has been part of the corporation that teaches newcomers to the game how to play.  So, he has put a lot of thought into how to help people to learn to play.  In fact we have been discussing a couple of projects to help people learn.  This is just the first one that we are executing on.  To test the waters so to speak.

Over the last few weeks with the three of us playing against each other they hit problems and I shared solutions which is when @Method Gamer came up with first the idea that we should play an open game - like when you teach a new player poker by playing with everyone's hands exposed.  That quickly evolved into this concept.  Why play an open game between two of us and talk amongst our selves when we could do it with all of you?   More is better right.

So, here is the plan for this thread.  Both @Method Gamer and I will be posting and commenting in here (and his thread too).  This will be the place I post the AAR portions from my side of the battle but I want  you guys to join in with you tips and comments.  By all means talk tactics but more importantly talk execution share your tips on how to make the tactics happen.  Read both threads spill the beans - cause we are going to be reading both sides anyway.  Hopefully this will be a little different and helpful for future players.
