The only certain way is to avoid the balcony entirely. There is no need to 'patch'. I like the manner the troops spread out on a AS and peak around trees/corners/ditches/etc. and prefer they work on correcting items that can't be so easily mitigated. The best way to fix this is for scenario designers to be aware which I believe most are. Right now, when I want them out on the balcony, I place a waypoint there. Simple.
Skip floors containing balconies. It's the least of our challenges when trying to clear a multistory building as one can pace the assault to rarely stay in place long enough for them to fan out. Plan your breaks with pauses/target arcs as teams lead frog each other throwing grenades.
If you really need to expose men to balconies rather than a protected roof/ground floor; I believe @MOS:96B2Pdetailed a workaround somewhere on this fine board.

Not playing CM because of a couple of bugs is just silly, guys. You're missing out on a lot of gaming fun.

"The prevalent culture here is that the customer is little more an an irritant and liable to be ignored for months on end - except when it comes to promoting new product and 'upgrades'. It is hardly surprising that these games are such a niche market when even the small current customer base is treated with such continued disdain"...
I think that's bit (lots) over the top. Battlefront is by all accounts a small company with limited resources, and its games and upgrades don't cost a lot (as far as I can tell from the position of somebody who only buys Battlefront games). They seem passionate about quality, and often warn fans that projects can drag out, and they'll only issue them when they're right.
There's still no game that comes close to the realism and playability of Combat Mission (largely thanks to the WEGO system), and I play only CM WW2 titles. Sure, it's annoying when troops jump out of their trenches into mortar barrages, or don't react quickly enough to enemies right in front of them, but I just put that down to the craziness of stressed-out troops on the battlefield, which I imagine often wrecked the carefully laid plans of real life battalion commanders...

A Merry Christmas to all, and I look forward to peering through the pixelsmoke of war-torn France, Russia, Italy and Holland again in the new year.

Cleary @MOS:96B2P and I were doing the same thing. I setup a situation where many PzIVs were to the front and several soliders were to the rear and shot this. Frame rate is a bit off but hey first animated gif from in game video...

A Fanatic crew with Open up and an Area Target to the front.  Then ran a German scout team around behind the tank.  The IS-2 continued to fire the main gun forward and the rear facing MG at the German team.

Yes, a bad use of terminology on my part which I can see may muddy the water.
What I should have said was that the permanent impact on morale can only be caused by the build up of casualties (Combat Stress) either within the unit or units closely associated via the OOB (eg same platoon).

Gafford reacted to MOS:96B2P in How to Use Extra HQ Units?
In the game the ability to call for artillery fire is not based on having a radio but instead on the authority of the caller.  It is often referred to as the field telephone abstraction.  As an example you will notice if an FO team's officer becomes KIA and the RTO is still alive with a working radio the FO team can no longer call for or adjust fire.
So the US XOs can call for arty even when they don't have a radio.  As a result I will often have an XO accompany a maneuver platoon.  Then when the platoon needs to call for indirect fire support the XO team will handle leaving the platoon HQ team free to move about keeping the fire teams in C2 and facilitating the sharing of OpFor contact information.
Also when I have different formations in the same scenario I may use XOs, 2ICs, etc as liaisons.  Example you have an infantry company from 1st Infantry Battalion and a tank company from an tank battalion.  I will put the two Bn XOs in the other Battalion TOC so they will horizontally share OpFor contact information between the two formations.   See the below link for an explanation on C2.
I also sometimes assign them to the TOC as a TRP officer.  They are responsible for calling in fires in the area of Target Reference Points (TRP)s to support the scheme of maneuver.  They generally have one off map 105mm howitzer platoon I reserve for their use.  They can call for fires from the safety of the TOC to impact in the area of the TRPs which were placed to support the planned Avenue of Advance.  At the appropriate time the TRP officer (XO) will call for a maximum duration, light, low tube count mission which lasts for about 34 minutes.  The XO will adjust this mission between TRPs to support the maneuvering platoons.  I like to have the TRP officer in the relative safety of the TOC because if he is KIA while the maximum duration fire mission is ongoing control of those tubes will be lost and they will fire on the last adjustment until dry (I had this happen once in a PBEM).
At times I have also used them as medics.
This should give you some ideas 11Bravo.  Keep swervin and happy hunting!!

Mods moved it from CM-GD to GDF as JK was cluttering up CM Game topic forums with random military history posts , such as this thread, not directly related to CM titles / gameplay.

The detail that went into all those vehicles. Nobody would have complained if the interiors of the vehicles were not modeled. And yet they're there and they're very detailed (in some cases stunningly so!). It tells a lot about CM being a work of love.
And then you get that vehicle hit text on your armored car "RICOCHET INTO: Opening / PENETRATION" and you realize that the detail is not just there visually and aesthetically, but also functionally. 💗

WeGo, PBEM head to head, the contrast between control and no control and the ebb and flow of a game.
Playing CM against a human opponent is like a slow game of chess where you're trying to out think each other. Once everything's settled at home for the evening, I love opening up CM Helper to see my opponent has sent me a turn. Then the nail biting tension as I watch the replay file to see if my attack has worked, or if I've been a dumbass and got my elite pixeltruppen wiped out to a man.
CM is a brilliant, amazing, fantastic game. Is it the best game I've ever played? .....Probably!

talk about predictable.  Typical internet based macho BS as you post more than likely from your parent's basement.
And before you try a snappy come back I'll have you know I get to post from the dining room!! okay yeah I admit we don't have a basement.. or an attic...or a garage, but still I get the dining room!

A lot of good posts here and we seek many things.  For my two cents I love the graphics and admire those who are smart enough to make them. Having said that I look for playability too.   I really don't care if helmets don't have chin straps or the pistol holster is on the wrong side or if the shoulder patch isn't quite historically correct.  I want vehicles that go around corners without stop pivot move stop pivot move etc..  I would like to see, in the WWII games, all of the equipment from CM1 into CM2. But I do like the products and will continue to purchase them.

Well that is certainly one way to try and be part of a discussion. Go straight to jerk mode.  What I like is how you determine what we should or should not have without any statement as to what resources or cost should be  hell I think CM should be VR already with me being able to sit in the role of commander IN the battlefield. Damn it it is 2018 BF what the hell is wrong with you?  By the way are you rich? Why not?  There was a lottery worth a billion dollars here all you had to do is win  geez man . . .  Slacker
    Signed: a fanboy
back to the jerks. You know who you are, we all do
