The Sun is showing what appears to be Admiral Makarov on fire. No officil confirmations yet, so the usual salt shaker rules apply.

from the video I can tell this was up-res'd, either by the sun or ukraine. the video in question probably had fewer pixels available than an NES game. meaning it was either quite far away, or was artificially downsized to distort the source of what ever was used to fake this. Unless we get the raw footage it might as well be considered junk.

  2. So I left the comfort of art twitter to go check in the depths of current events twitter. All the reports of attacks on Mykolaiv are like 8 hours old, looks like a normal shelling, or rocket attack. However lots of English speakers calling the Ukrainians Nazis, and complaining about giving the Ukrainians weapons, and that made me feel sick inside. sticking to art twitter. reading current events on twitter is like stepping into a cesspool.

    A bit better resolution:

so just because my eyes are trained to look for this stuff, that 2nd image has gone through an AI upscale and any speculation should be thrown into the trash, unsure of the first image, didn't compare the res to the original, but considering the guy posting this has 22 followers, expect this to be a twitter follower grab or hes dumb and doesnt under stand that tech, he's posted multiple "high res versions" ignore this pls. its bad data.

  4. Tanks maybe going the way of the battleship, but that doesn't mean AFV's are going away. things are just going to have to change to adapt to this new environment, I suspect things like Japanese type 16 are going to looked at by many nations very closely in the coming years. or who knows, some defense contractor will solve the issue with lazers or something.

Interestingly, Aaron Stein leaked intel that most TB2 losses have been to Russian aircraft, not ADS:

a very smart friend informed me that the TB2 moves slowly enough that enough Russian SAM systems have a hard time tracking it. now I have no way to verify this and I have my doubts, but considering he was dismantling a AIM9 (L?) on his webcam I give the information more weight that your average joe.

What I don't get is that they really seem to have drank the kool-ade and not deployed their best stuff. Either they didn't think they needed it, or they're waiting. If they are waiting, why?

the answer is they already have deployed their best stuff. one can assume the t14, and t90am are nothing more than parade pieces, at least right now.  the only kit that doesn't have photos after having been abandoned or destroyed is that clownish terminator thing. but that also may also just be a parade piece.

To be fair I don't think the BBC said it would be a good deal, that would not be for the BBC to decide.  Or did I miss something?

you are correct. its just the way things were worded gave me the impression that the author was thinking Zelensky should take the deal. but that is my mistake to have read it that way, and I suspect upon re-reading that its the turks who are flavoring it that way, not the BBC.

"Ukraine conflict: Putin lays out his demands in Turkish phone call"

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-60785754

TL;DR: He's now ready to settle for Ukraine ceding Crimea and Donbas.

no that's not what it said, the terms the BBC have stated are what we already knew. no joining any blocks, cede Donbass and Crimea, and make Russian a protected language. and disarm. its not progress. the BBC is delusional thinking this a a good deal for Ukraine.

  9. that seems fishy. to design, produce and ship something like that would take probably longer than the conflict has been going on. unless its a mockup. I haven't made a patch before though (only stickers) so maybe its faster? feels fishy.

There is so many Canadian volunteers over there, they have their own brigade.  Reportedly in the Kyiv area.  Here is their arm patch.  Five Hundred and Fifty in number so far and growing daily.

  10. Personally, I think this thread is one of the better places processing information.

Artist twitter/socialmedia is filled with people with bad takes, people ignoring the situation, or people screaming about WW3 and we're all going to die.  My favorite however, is people begging for the sanctions to be lifted, because pretty much every Russian contract artist is now out of a job. which is very pitiable until those same people then start screaming about how this is NATOs fault (most of these people don't know what NATO is) and going on about biolabs or whatever this weeks excuse for the invasion Russia has cooked up.

  11. Kraze and Haiduk will correct me if i'm wrong, as I have been in the past. But I thought the yellow arm bands where emblematic of the territorial units, not the army. the BTR is interesting however, no big stupid Z, but it looks like an 82, I was under the impression Ukraine didn't operate those (unless its a capture)

  12. I'm reading a (bad) translation of that supposed FSB document now I think? if its real, then it is real bleak. one of the lines that stood out to me was:

"By and large, the country has no way out. It’s just that there is no option for a possible victory, and defeat is everything, sailed at all. They 100% repeated the beginning of the last century, when they decided to kick weak Japan and get a quick victory, then it turned out that the army was in trouble."

I have seen a lot of comparisons recently to other conflicts as people grasp to explain this not just to nerds like us, but the public. The Russo-Japanese war is one I have forgotten about, but probably a good one to think about in this context.

(edit, i know its been around for a while, but this is the first I have heard of the document)
