  1. Got 15 going on at the moment in all 3 theaters. 4 of the games are with "hard core" opponents who get out 1 turn a day and often do 2-5+ turns a day. The other games are at a slower pace 1 to 4 turns a week. I play the game of the month on The Blitz and one of these days will try out some ladder games on the FGM-at the moment I have some game going on with some members. Always nice to find/have good reliable h2h opponents. You can try out some of the unbalanced, but interesting battles that you normally wouldn't play h2h due to balancing issues.
  2. Early versions had sights that could be adjusted for 500 meters. http://world.guns.ru/smg/rus/pca-41-e.html When it comes to guns your going to get all sorts of info. Above its mentioned the AR15 platform with iron sights is about 300 meters, yet I've seen 600 meters stated. I've shot thousands of rounds from the AR and would tend to go with the lower figure. Even with my Remington 700 tactical and variable scope a 600 meter shot on a human sized target is a challenging shot at least for me. It could also be a case of the shooter not the gun as I'll be the first to tell you the guns are capable of better results than I'm capable of getting out of them. I had a experienced sniper look at 700 and when I asked what the effective range of my rifle was he said 900 yards. I was stunned. In all fairness he may have mistaken it for a .308 version.
  3. I've heard the padded jacket and carbine story before. The Army started issuing flak vests in Korea. Maybe they had captured vests under the padded jackets or some sort of homemade copy? Does sound suspicious a padded jacket would stop a bullet. What were these padded jackets made of?
  4. Probably. I really never heard of German troops being fond if the Tommy gun, Sten or other smg, but the Ppsh is another story. 150 meters for an smg is impressive and the sights could be adjusted fir 500 meters. If its capable at that distance that quite a feat for something classified as a smg.
  5. Easy to see why the German were so fond of the PPsh. Some sources mentioned it became the second most widely used SMG on the Eastern Front by the Germans. I don't think there is a way to verify that one way or another.
  6. Beer in a vending machine. I like that idea. We may get one up on that when the Pot vending machines go into operation-if it hasn't already done so. I also believe there is a segment or subculture in Japan that are really into Nazi stuff and WW2 German stuff in general. I can remember seeing some young Japanese students wearing stuff with swastikas in California of all places-that was a long time ago, but it was kinda funny to see that and I would not be surprised if you could openly do that in Japan today and not cause some huge media uproar. I do know that alot of Japanese absolutely love western culture. Some time ago there was an article about the trend in Japan where the youth were into WW2 bomber jackets that had the squadron patches of American bomber units that flew carpet bombing raids over Japan in WW2. So it is also true that you can see middle aged men in the subway cars who are sugar daddies to little school girls in their uniforms sitting on their laps and nobody cares? I've heard something to that effect and couldn't believe what I was hearing....
  7. Leave it to the Japanese to do something like this. I love a lot of their animation style and the way they layout stuff. I collect a DVD series called Gunner and it is now very hard to get. I hear Japan can be a very strange place for Westerners. I've only been there for a short time and would like to go back and visit sometime. I had a friend who taught English for a year there and he said it could be bizzare at times. If I'm not mistaken they have public vending machines where you can buy used panties that were worn by school girls. Its nothing over there, but you could imagine what a stir that would cause here.
  8. I've seen references to the fact the Torakev round has a tendency to tumble when it hits flesh. No idea if thus is accurate.
  9. Interesting. I've seen references that past 125 yards the M1 carbine round peters out while the Tokarev is effective well past that range. I think that may be in reference to dropping hogs. I don't know much or used Russian stuff except the 7.62x39. My impression of the ppsh is its referred to as a smg, but performance wise its something between a smg and assault rifle.
  10. The round used by the pssh41 is technically a "pistol" round, but is hotter than the .30 cal round used in the M1 carbine from what sources fimilar with both have said. Sounds like its far hotter than a 9mm or 45ACP. From the looks of what Ive just looked at the Ppssh is something between a SMG and assault rifle.
  11. Well did some digging and sounds like the Ppssh 41 did have an effective range of 125-150 meters more than other smgs.
  12. I don't have experience handling smgs so i can't say one way or another. 3 football fields does seem a bit far at least when you look at some of the sources out there. I have never heard or see that the pistol ammo used by smgs were more powerful than normal pistol rounds. I could just be uninformed. Even on todays modern smgs I would be interested to know what the specs are. I know that a steady diet of +P and +P+ is not reccomended and in some weapons not reccomended at all. Once again I don't abt ww2 smgs. Longer barrels in smgs could assist in accuracy in single shot mode, but in full auto mode wouldn't that be countered by the effect of firing in full auto?
  13. 150-200 meters is 1 1/2 to 2 football fields. I was always under the impression SMGs that used pistol ammo was effective to 50 to 150 feet in full auto mode. Accuracy beyond that range in full auto was not good or at least that what I thought. I've seen sources that state 50 feet is the effective range of an SMG in full auto mode and 100 feet in aimed single shot mode. IDK what the effective range is in RT, but if it is 150 to 300 meters, then I would venture to say they may be overpowered. I would also guess that just about any cover would be very effective at range as pistol ammo loses penetrating power at range rapidly. Its also going to be affected by wind.
  14. Huge difference between a regular sniper with average motivation than a veteran or elite sniper with a high motivation level. Regardless of the skill level and motivation, moving snipers usually get them killed if the enemy is near by. Better off placing them in key locations or flanks and let the enemy come to you. I've placed snipers on my flanks to protect it and seen them gun down 2 then 4 man elements trying to sneak around my flanks. It helps if you also have a covered escape route as your sniper won't last long once the enemy knows one is lurking and they come looking for it. You may want to consider a small 2 or 3 man security force to assist the sniper team. If 1 man on the security team has an automatic weapon all the better. I recently had a turn where my opponent tried to rush a position. He had 2 elements rush forward and a bazooka team sneak up behind the forward 2 elements to provide fire support. My security team hosed down the lead elements with automatic fire and grenades. My sniper team picked off the bazookaman then tossed a couple of grenades at the bazooka team fro good measure. Had the sniper not taken out the zook, it would have fired on my troops and caused losses.
  15. Nice work...but what would occur if a defender with SMGs is hiding in the woods or urban terrain and the Germans were the ones advancing? Without smoke, covering fire from HMGs, tanks or some other type of support weapons to kill or suppress the SMG troopers I've discovered that even 1 or 2 SMGs can really chop up an advancing enemy in short order. In 1 h2h game my opponent didn't see my SMG squad hiding and saw 2 of his squads eviscerated in seconds. Kens aggressiveness cost him dearly, but what if he was a less aggressive person and waited for you to advance and engage at close range where he would have most likely got off the first shots or the Germans are mandated to take a position without support weapons. I've seen from other threads that artillery is nerfed to take onto account the fact that men don't spread out like they would do in real life. I suspect that the SMGs are NOT nerfed and due to the fact that your pixel troops don't spread out like they would in real life or use tactical formations like they would in RL, SMGs are brutally effective.
  16. The state of journalism these days is pathetic. I guess the rush to get it out first trumps all.
  17. More than likely a new type of drone and not a UFO if you ask me... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2623330/Is-Inter-Stellar-Assistance-Force-Mysterious-UFO-filmed-blitzing-Taliban-base-Afghanistan.html
  18. This should be interesting. Playing h2h on both side I find the SMG wielding troops deadly in close quarters. I also find the Paras in Market Garden to be very deadly due to their SMG's. One of my regular h2h opponents who is very good mentioned there may be a need for house rules to limit the SMG troops in some h2h battles and QB's. I'm sorta leaning on a doctrine to NOT automatically dismount my troops from Hannomags when facing Russian infantry as the HTs gives protection from the SMGs and the lack bazookas or PIATs for Russian infantry. In the Western Front and Italy I tend to dismount them quickly due to the threat from infantry AT weapons. The Russian AT rifles seem to kill just 1 or 2 passengers when it penetrates. The SMGs do eat through ammo quickly though. I also like to break contact quickly when I encounter the SMG wielding devils and let them advance into my fire zones. Mortars in direct fire mode and MGs are effective at killing or suppressing the SMG toting gangsters.
  19. I have found the target armor useful in some circumstances, but probably 95% of the time I avoid using it. I've seen this sort of behavior myself I also notice that tanks don't seem to fire when the turret is rotated and the tank isn't facing in the same direction as the gun is pointed at-or so it seems.
  20. Mystery solved. I'm getting a sense that given the amount of automatic firepower the Soviet infantry has, you may be better off keeping your pixel troops in the HTs instead of automatically dismounting them when in close contact with the enemy as many normally do in other modules like Normandy and Market Garden. The SMG armed Soviets will hose down your dismounted troops easily. If they remain in the HT's the SMGs won't do much if any harm and the lack of bazookas or PIATs hiders the Russian infantry. The AT rifles will easily penetrate the Hannomags, but usually only kill 1 or 2 occupants and occasionally penetrate but leave the occupants untouched.
  21. Definitely not flamethrowers. All my hanomags have something that looks like a caterpillar thread on both sides when you views from a distance, but once you get closer you see that's its some sort of armor and may overhang slightly over the crew compartment. Also has a gap that troops could fire from? If that is the case though I don't thing the occupants inside do fire from within the HT
  22. Been playing some h2h games and I can't give definite proof, but it seems to me they give more protection to their crews and gunners. I've seen them get sprayed with smg and even bullets from Maxim MGs and the gunners survive where as in other games they would have been gonners. I also notice my Hanomags have some sort of contraption on the sides. Looks like some sorts of protection that allows infantry to shoot from the vehicle and gives protection?
  23. I'm finding that at long range-over 800 meters the Superior optics on the MKIV makes a big difference.
  24. I'm reading Day of Battle and just saw a passage regarding a British study in Italy. The average spotting distance of a Sherman tank was 50 yards while the average distance they were killed was 80 yards. I think the author made this in reference to AT guns. Of course this is in context of Italy, but does seem like the changes in RT may be more on the correct side. Some comments allude to the relative lack of use of American towed AT guns in the ETO. We'll see about that when the Buldge module comes out. They play some vital roles in that battle.
  25. Yes getting back on track... is this real or staged?
