Thanks for the update -- you guys sound like you've been amazingly busy!
I love Battlepacks, especially when they have Master Maps in them! Looking forward to them

Oh sir you cut me to the quick.  No not really 😂, such testing is not for me either.  But I would say that when my vehicles go forward into a bog, my impression is that reversing back out of the bog seems to work more often that not.  Does the game know which direction I was travelling (forward or back) I have no idea, just wanted other people's thoughts.

    Hello all,
i have been wargaming for a few years now, but only have recently stumbled across Combat Mission.
Never thought that this game series is such a positive surprise for me. All the years i have searched for a PC wargaming experience which gives me this immersive feeling to live through a authentic, tactical battle situation in a historical context. As a history and WW2 buff, i really like to read detailed through all the excellent historical briefings before a mission/campaign.
Also despite Combat Mission has not absolute AAA graphics, it´s the only wargame which for me delievers this authentic, desperate and gritty battle atmosphere i also get from series/movies like Band of Brothers or Fury. I can really imagine the fear of the american soldiers in their foxholes, when they hear a german tiger approaching...
Finally i cannot praise the community enough for making all the high quality mods and historical scenarios/campaigns. Iam like a child in the candy store in browsing through all the user content and cannot decide what to play next...
Iam really looking forward what the future brings to this series, for now i have a huge backlog of scenarios and campaigns which i need to play through the next months.
So just wanted to say "Thank you" to the devs and all the passionate content creators of the community for giving me this absolutely great and unique wargaming experience.

Here's a link to all the maps I've done so far (I think, still scrounging). Some of them have AI and units in them, some of them don't. Some are in beta stages of completion and there's one map in there for CM BS, but nonetheless. Here it is.

You will want to consider CMSF even more now that a forum member just dropped like 10 high detail master maps for CMSF2. (And two for CMBS)

I would like to know this as well. CMFI have been on my wish list for a very long time and almost bought it last month.

The game feels so much better like this. Firefights are longer with more ammunition expended per kill. Close quarters battle inside houses is now possible, with troops taking time to search rooms before they find the enemy. My men rarely kill everyone in a house before they have to storm it.
Not everything is perfect. Snipers miss often, AT guns shoot much much slower, javelins and other atgms take longer to fire (I find this pleasant considering how fast AT weapons can be whipped out), and the troops can stay ducked for a pretty long time. If the fanaticism is bumped up they will be more responsive. I find Extreme to be the sweet spot, since Fanatic limits the natural behavior of the AI. If you forget about troops on a balcony they can be mowed down turn after turn and will never move under fire.
Here is an example of an improved experience. If my assault troops saw the enemy in the house earlier (look at 0:19), they would have killed them with rifles from afar. But since we were able to get in close enough they opted to toss a grenade through the window:

I completely agree, just because of the 'soft factors'. Splitting and having the choice of direct or area fire depending on the weapons you have. A like from me.

Not if you put a scouting unit on the engine deck. It puts the Commander-Gunner less at risk of a T34/76 especially. A Soviet Platoon. 1st squad to make contact,2nd squad to support and pick up the tentative contacts. 3rd squad to flank and finish. Keep up the IO till you have sufficient intel then combine armor, artillery, and infantry for one final assault. I know the 2men scouting unit on the engine deck is cannon fodder.

Freyberg reacted to Sequoia in So has playing Combat Mission make you now cringe when you watch war movies?
I've been trying to think of ANY modern war (WWI and on) movies that shows combat realistically. Perhaps the one scene that's an exception that comes to mind is in Band of Brothers where they attack the artillery emplacement in Normandy. Short ambushes sometimes are portrayed alright, but that's about it.
Most movies still have attackers line up in some sort of skirmish line and advance upright in the open. Suppression is almost never represented. I suppose real life combat isn't very cinematic as you usually only see the heads of the enemy at best most of the time.
List your exceptions and let's see if we can dissuade you that they are realistic.

Heheh ... log files are not the most intuitive sources of useful info.
Your original issue does sound like it was some corruption related to permissions.
I occasionally find folders that have become mysteriously locked on my Mac, I've not touched them in ages, they are just locked ... I put it down to crashes that happen when there is something using the folder or it's contents. Sometimes a restart clears this, sometimes it doesn't, then I have to resort to the black arts to get in to the folder.
I wonder, since the CM game apps are comprised of an app hidden inside a container, if the container somehow becomes off-limits during a crash so the current user has no permission to use it (no access) thus can't launch it. This info might be written back to some database at system level so preventing the user ever getting into the container (or copy/reinstall) again?!
Anyway, your solution is very welcome and handy to keep as a tip for the future ...

Yep - they raped and pillaged the more and more as they moved westward into German territory.
Sorry if that offends your sensibilities, but the Red Army of 1945 was hardly an army of saints on white horses spreading freedom and justice wherever it went.

I had a big problem with CMFR and I thought I'd share the fix.
After a forced restart in OSX, CMFR, which had been open in the background when I rebooted, would no longer run.
When I doubleclicked on it, there was no error message, it just bounced a few times in the Dock and then nothing happened; no amount of reinstalling, in safe mode or otherwise, forcing a rebuild of permissions; resetting P-Ram etc. worked.
So I created a new user account and reinstalled it from there. It ran perfectly and in fact my old Mac is running better than it has in years.

Rome to Victory and Fire and Rubble are my favourite titles by far - the wonderful Master Maps (mostly by Bootie) available on FGM, which are readily adapted to a plethora of good QB maps, have given me months of fun in CMFR...

A fun way to kill Nazi super-heavies is with area fire fron any Soviet 152mm. You don't need clear visibility - a direct hit with HE stands a good chance of killing any German tank.

Ease up, mate! Harshing my morning vibe here
He ain't no Ivan-lovin' troll. Personally I'm not convinced by many of Erwin's arguments, I find Steve et al's more compelling (which speaks to your note about not adjusting his worldview) but even so, he's just saying what even I posted about way yonder back - Russia isn't done.
There's still a lot of fight left in them and UKR victory is absolutely not a predetermined thing. It's likely, maybe even very likely, but its sure as heck not certain.
Heck, even Zelensky is saying it - "not every Russian soldier runs away, not every tank is abandoned- (etc)".
I think he could come up with better reasons, or at least better counter-counters to his reasons, but he's no appeaser.

I've seen a fair amount of writing about how much of an issue the relative openness of the southern areas of Ukraine may be for a defender, but the precision aspect certainly seems to me to make massed armor advances over this terrain a potentially troubling proposition for the attacker. One man with the capacity to take out one AFV over a distance is new stuff at this scale.
I do agree with The Capt. that the tank indeed still has a place in combined warfare - maybe the Ukrainians can show us how that's done again when they get enough tools for the task. The Russian implementation (like everything on display here) has been absurd.
This is especially true if the attacker's timeline is set by artificial aspects and concerns...like taking ground before parades kick off.

It's not quite as simple as she's making out.
They didn't give it to him, it's not a hand out. It's not charity. It's business, and for a critical resource that frankly, without it, makes making and doing things in Europe a good deal more expensive and awkward.
Those billions paid for gas etc to heat homes, run power and importantly support industry, manufacturing, science and research.
Sure he's getting money, but he has pretty high costs and that money loses significant use if he can't buy whizzbang Western tech or products (civ or mil).
I'm not saying it's a good thing (it absolutely ISN'T) but that's the blunt reality.
Think of it like this - Russia's gas is powering and heating the societies and industries that are now ****ing with his invasion in all sorts of delightfully maddening ways. Hell, his gas helps make the damn NLaws, Javelins and Panzerfausts that are slaughtering his tanks.

    Sigh.
I did not change my position.
Putin is a dictator in all but name.
Putin controls Russia. There are some institutions left that have a semblance of independence, but if push came to shove, Putin would co-opt them, directly or indirectly.
Putin has the power (REAL power) to send conscripts into Ukraine. The law in Russia is a joke. If it affects Putin, then it becomes whatever he wants. If it does not affect him, then he doesn't care.
Figments of the West's imagination: that the rule of law matters in Russia.
Putin is calling it a "special operation". Is it that, or is it the invasion of one sovereign entity by another?
To directly answer your question 1 is trivial. Putin can claim the "special operation" is an internal matter. That Ukraine is a breakaway republic subject to Russian laws and control. LOLz...  (This is the PRC view of Taiwan, so there is precedent.) if Putin does that, then ipso facto, the borders of Ukraine actually become the borders of Russia IN HIS VIEW. Thereby allowing him to use new conscripts "within" the borders of Russia, to defend against a guerilla war funded and supplied by the Hitlerite West.
    2. Putin is throwing everything he can at Donbas because he does not want to, nor can he afford to, lose face. When the Syrians, Chechens, and anything else he has FAILS to achieve that face-saving, then he will not hesitate to tell Russia that the Hitlerite West needs to be stopped in the breakaway republic of Ukriane (which he will sell to Russia that Ukraine is begging for Russia's help). Then he'll shove more bodies into the breach.

Why is he not doing this already? Because up until the withdrawal from Kyiv, he's been living in fantasy-land. Now, perhaps, he sees how bad it is going.

I'm really not sure why you think I've changed my position about Putin being a dictator and having the ability to send Russian conscripts into battle in Ukraine.  Will there be difficulties with doing so? Of course. But he has the capability.

What am I missing that has you so put out by my comment?
