Don't be so hard on them.. I'm sure all seven Mac users appreciate that the patch was delayed again to make sure it works also on their machines
You wouldn't really feel good playing the game knowing that somewhere in the world, a lonely mac user sat quietly whimpering in the shadows, rejected by his gaming community, would you?
For my part, I wouldn't be able to bear it. Solidarity, brothers! Just because a few people choose to play on a widely unsupported gaming platform shouldn't mean that I should enjoy any special privilege just because I bought a Windows PC. All animals are, after all, equal, and the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.
So carry on and show patience, comrade...

You obviously never played any Harpoon back in the day (or that modern update, CMANO), read Red Storm Rising or heard of the brutal Cod Wars?
The GIUK gap & Iceland were, in some ways, more strategically important than the Fulda gap during the Cold War.

Yeah, I can't find an all inclusive map. It is surprising how many nations are involved in this gig -- including non-NATO nations like Sweden and Finland.
I didn't even know Iceland was in NATO, and the naval part (quite sizable, Canada sent like 4+ ships there). They don't even have a military, do they?

The vast majority of them are in CMMODS III... I am transferring them to the upgraded CMMODS IV and I believe any files lost through the original transition have been provided to me by @Erwin but as for the actual repository physical location and files... you need to ask the owners.

    Hello Gentlemen
I had hoped to delay the announcement of this until the new CMMODS site was 100% finished and all the mods uploaded however due to circumstances I am pulling the announcement forward to... well now.
After recent discussions between GreenAsJade and Battlefront it has been decided to relocate the CMMODSIII site to fall under the umbrella of The Few Good Men where The Proving Grounds and The Scenario Depot already reside.
To this end work has begun on moving the modifications currently hosted at CMMODSIII to their new home at CMMODS IV.  As you can imagine this is a major job and will take a few weeks.  CMMODSIII will remain open until the full transfer has taken place so for now I request that no new mods be uploaded to CMMODSIII.
Within the next few days CMMODS IV will be opening the requests section for folk interested in becoming Creators (formerly Authors) and at this time the new upload process will be implemented.  This will be under the Instructions section of the new website but I will post in this thread to keep you all in the loop.
A few points about the new website worth mentioning... all files will now be held in cloud storage so even a catastrophic website crash will not impact any loss of modifications.  All files from the old CMMODSIII site will be relisted and recently with the help of @Erwin I have acquired approx. just shy of 300GB of modifications with quite a few that slipped through the net between the Repository and CMMODSIII transfer over 3 years ago.  So as you can imagine Im going to be very busy over the next few weeks.
Please do not subscribe to the new CMMODS IV just yet or you will be inundated with copious amounts of uploads... I think I uploaded over 100 today... you really don't want that many notification emails dropping in your inbox anytime soon!
In closing I want to thank Martin for all his sterling work over the years keeping CMMODS running and it's an honour to pick up the gauntlet where he left off.
Without further ado, here is the new site, still a work in progress but getting their quickly.

There's a danger to being over-ambitious. Green scenario designers often dream big then become discouraged. If you've never built a CM scenario with proper AI orders before I suggest you first make up some tiny scenarios just for fun then play them to see if they work as you imagined. Then work your way up gradually 'til you can tackle your magnum opus.

yep and in all that thread you can see the number of saves we got was pitifully few.  The problem with AI pathing it is a complex item that may have multiple influences.  The fewer saves the fewer instances we can examine for causes.  AI pathing is an issue that has been submitted in multiple tickets.  Whether what gets fixed in any of those matches the specific cause in anyone else's case is another issue.  I have run across pathing issues since CMBN 1.0.  I think I may even have brought it up on that thread where I was playing a pbem on CW The Mace and one of my guys ended up underwater in a corner of the map by itself.  It is not a 4.0 issue though 4.0 could possibly have made it worse by soldier spacing.  But again, the more saves we have the better off we are.  I don't understand why that seems to be a recurring issue on these boards as if somehow we are asking for money or something.  I swear I go through this all day at work in IT I don't want to go through it here.  Gimme saves or leave it go.  simple as that.  The more saves the better the odds the issue will get corrected.
    Work with me people!

BTW thanks for sharing the link, it is helpful to have the reference point

Devils' Descent is a quite small paratrooper based campaign for the base game. I think that should fit the bill.

I've brought this up with my brother, before. That a big difference in modern war is that there's a huge random factor thrown in the mix. No matter how elite your training, no matter how experienced you are in battle, there's a much greater risk of being killed by something completely outside your ability to counteract with combat skills. The WWII memoirs I have read are replete with examples. One I can give is where an officer was found dead after a shelling that was fairly benign comparatively speaking, possibly a few wayward mortars or something to that effect, as memory serves. Basically, his training and their position should've kept him safe. At first they couldn't figure out what happened to him. He was in a pristine state. Later a pinhole sized wound was found in his head where a minute sliver of shell had pierced his brain. As far as I remember no one else was even wounded—just a bad random dice generator.
So, yeah, I can imagine that the chaotic randomness of battle could also play a major factor on the modern mind and especially conscience. Why did I live unscathed and that guy next to me in the foxhole got blown in half?
Bulletpoint sent me a link on Roman PTSD that pretty much reaffirmed my thoughts on my semi-rhetorical questions above.
    Mord.

Yes and no...sort of. I expect combat has always been scary, and getting bashed on the head or hacked into pieces has always been exceedingly unpleasant, but the warrior ethos (for those cultures steeped in it) offered a certain amount of psychological protection. Sure, you might be killed, but if you died bravely your praises would be sung for generations to come. When war started to become industrialized along with everything else about three centuries ago, it changed the nature of the battlefield. Before, battles took place in an environment more or less like one's familiar everyday environment, the one your animal nature was comfortable with. But with the coming of industrialization, and particularly in the twentieth century with its rapid evolution of weaponry, that comforting environment is stripped away. The modern battlefield is a noisy chaotic place in ways that your animal nature may not be able to recognize and adapt to. In the olden days of face to face combat, a soldier's fate was largely in his own hands and dependent on how skilled he was with his arms. This is less true on a battlefield where a soldier can be killed by a bomb or shell dropping out of the sky. It's not all black and white and it is certainly much better to know how to use one's weapons and techniques of survival than not, and it is also good if your training has exposed you to shells going off nearby and all the other craziness that occurs during combat, and to know that you can survive all that and still function. But still, there are limits to how much one can absorb and still be combat effective, let alone sane for the rest of their lives. Some can take a lot, some crumble almost at once. Most fall somewhere in between.
    Michael
