Another interesting outcome, in the Netherlands there will be an investigation in the funding of certain (radical) right wing political parties with Russian money. Other European countries also are planning to do that. I'm pretty sure that the report will be interesting reading. Some of those treacherous politicians even now refuse to condemn Putin.

Hopefully that will be the end of these parties and convince their voters they are better served by the decent and normal right wing.

I hope the same happens in the UK

Interesting indeed. Especially recommend to the people who still think we're dealing with rational, reasonable people.

    Woow:

"It doesn’t end there. Dugin advocates bringing most of Europe into the Russian fold in some manner, including not only obvious candidates such as Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, but also Finland, Romania, North Macedonia, Serbia, ‘Serbian Bosnia’ and Greece."

Indeed.  In one of Dugin's books he advocates the "Findlandization" of all of Europe.  One particular point to note is the following:

"The United Kingdom is described as an "extraterritorial floating base of the U.S.", [and] should be cut off from Europe."

Whatever people's thoughts on Brexit (whether it was influenced by Russia or not), this has played right into the hands of this ideology/doctrine.

  3. I'm seeing a lot of reports / videos now of captured Russian soldiers (many are young men / teenagers) who appear utterly bewildered that they were in a conflict, and believing they were on military exercises.  Is that possible?  Surely they would have known they were invading Ukraine when the order was given?  Or were they kept in the dark until it was too late?

I'm ok. I just too tired about all these news monitoring, so I havn't enough energy to write here. Today I tried to depart my wife from the city to her parents in more calm Cherkasy oblast, but we can't reach to railway station. Municipal transport stopped on the left bank of Kyiv, though on the right it works like and subway.

All day from my balcony, wich exits to Obolon' and Vyshhorod periodically heard a sounds of shellings. Now I heard outcoming shots of our 2S7 Pion guns, located in 5 km from my house close to city limit. They fire somewhere to the west, where Russian troops concentrates to attack on the city. All day there were periodycal clashes on the line Irpin'-Bucha-Vorzel-Hostomel. There was attempt of Russian tank attack from Chernobyl zone through Ivankiv on Kyiv, but because of we had a time to demolish the bridges through the Teterev river, they halted.

@HaidukI'm glad to hear your okay, mate.  I can't believe what I'm seeing on the news and various other outlets, and I can't imagine how it must be for you and your family, and your country.

I'm an amateur historical war buff with an interest in gaming, but the reality of your situation in Ukraine has really shocked me, and it's taken me from that distant academic interest to a hard and unrelenting reality.  I'm not entirely sure what I'm trying to say here.

Please keep your head down and stay safe!  Many are thinking of you.

In my opinion it will depend of how hard is the russian economy and army hit by this invasion. If the russian high command assumes that the economical situation has deteriorated beyond sustainability, and they expect even further deterioration, they might decide to strike into Poland before the hardships of the economy start to materialize and before the conventional balance of forces in Europe changes in favor of NATO with the pass of time and attrittion takes its toll.

Also, I think that there is a possibility that we are going to see movement from NATO states, either acting by themselves (looking at you Hungary) or conjuntly, to secure Carpatho-Ukraine, East Galicia and Moldava/Izmail/Bukovina, which could result into confrontation with Russian forces.

We will see. Even with this, I think is still to early, and its more likely that the war remains localized that it evolves into a huge european confrontation. But the possibility is there, and the longer the conflict last, the bigger the possibilities.

I guess it depends on how NATO reacts, right?  NATO striking militarily against Putin would give him an excuse to continue pushing forward (as you say possibly into other countries like Poland, which is terrifying). I'm guessing that NATO & US are hoping Putin will burn himself out before things can reach a point of no return?

    soo ww3?

Doubtful.  Depends on whether military action remains within Ukraine borders?  I think that action from NATO / US against targets outside of Ukraine would almost certainly escalade into something much hotter.  My feeling is that this will be a protracted war confined within the borders of Ukraine, with Ukraine allies offering technical & practical support.  Very interested to hear the views from the many intelligent folk on these forum.

This is one of my scenarios and I can tell you the Archer is behaving exactly as it was designed. The Archer is a tank destroyer with the gun mounted over the rear of the vehicle. It was intended to be used in ambush shoot and scoot situations where the tank would be reversed into an ambush zone and then drive away at full speed after engaging the enemy. These vehicles would also be used as longer range fire support, where the risk of close engagement could be avoided. To use them in this role, reverse them into firing positions and blast away.

Hi, thanks for the response and for everyone else's comments.  I didn't realise that they were meant to face backwards!  I've been playing it all wrong!

    Great scenario btw!  :)

"Deploy Weapon" is the top left button in the "S" tab of action buttons when you select a unit. So let's say you have a mortar section in a vehicle of some kind. You have to dismount them, then click on the white dot at the end of the movement and select S/Deploy Weapon.  Depending on the type of mortar, it should be ready to fire the next turn or the one after. Then it will show as available in the fire support tab.

Hi, thanks for all the responses.  I'm a dunce!  I had to dismount them first.  I thought they were mobile vehicle mortars and could shoot straight from the vehicle.  Thanks again for all the help!  :)

This thread is primarily about getting the games to run on Windows. For issues with Mac Catalina (10.15.x) and CM this is what I could find:

    http://community.battlefront.com/topic/136712-mac-catalina-10154/

This first thread has a few possible resolutions, one of them being simply to wait several minutes as the icon bounces in the dock. The other (which didn't work for everyone) was to open any CM title, watch it bounce, Open System Preferences, go to Privacy and Security and see if there is a message there telling you it can't open, and you can override that (though that message may not always appear).

    https://battlefront.mojohelpdesk.com/help/article/136663

The second thread mentions this as one possible fix:

    1) Right click on the application (whichever CM game), and click COPY

    2) PASTE the application to your desktop.

    3) Delete the original

    4) Copy the desktop version back to the Applications folder

    Hi,

Thank you for the response.  I'msSorry, I didn't realise the thread was for windows issues.

Update:  none of the games would load for 2-3 days until suddenly today they are loading with no problem.  I have no idea why!  If it happens again I will try your suggestions.  Many thanks!

    Andy  :)

  10. Not sure if this is the right thread but all of a sudden not a single one of my CM games are loading.  I use a MacBook and the CM game icons are bouncing in the dock but not loading.  This is only a recent issue.  I think there may have been a recent mac update which might be causing this?   Is anyone else having similar problems?

Testers get a free copy, or more specifically dozens of free copies (most of which don't work or are incomplete ;) ).  Scenarios and Campaigns are usually built by our testers, sometimes by staff.  Depends.

Sure.  It's been mentioned a little here and there, but we've not made a big deal about it because we really can't say too much about it.  We're making a customized version that includes tools to better integrate CM into an R&D environment.  This can help answer questions like "what if we gave every rifleman a MG, would that impress the chicks more?"  Or do the Brits still say "birds" in this era of Me Too? :)

Seriously, though, there's all kinds of ways Combat Mission can help prove/disprove various theories about weaponry, how they are organized, and how they are used.  Since we don't have security clearance for those sorts of discussions we have to give them the tools to experiment without us being involved.

And no, those features will NOT be coming into your hands.  They're paying for it, they own it (so to speak).

    Steve

Wow!  That's really cool.  I didn't know anything about this.

Btw, we do say "birds" but it depends on how cockney you are as to whether you'll get away with it! ;)

The longer answer is we have been sidetracked by an immediate need for our contract with the British MoD.  They have a fiscal year ending and that always means rushing to get stuff done with money in hand before it goes *poof* at the end of the year.  The work they requested has to be finished by the end of March and so we've switched over to that as our primary focus for the last 3-4 weeks and for the rest of March.

You're working with the British MoD??  Can you elaborate on that?
