  1. Thanks for this. I'm always looking for new ways to learn from QB. I dont have Normandy but it'll apply in RT and FI I think
  2. Good choice to get RT . My big tip is suppresion fire. The day i worked out that scouting and suppression fire were the keys to succeding in battles was a great day. By that i mean when an enemy unit is spotted, plant some area fire all over it with units that may not be able to see it clearly, but can see the area in general. This will suppress the enemy unit and enable you to get to it and kill it, or it may even actually take out the enemy unit Scouting and suppression fire FTW Also, I use Fire Briefly a lot ( I have it mapped to a very easy to find key ) Then I allocate area fire 'briefly' and hit the key three or four times. This will give you fire for 30,45,or 60 seconds. it means that you can then forget about that unit and not have to "turn off" the fire command, because it will automatically turn off. After the turn cycle, re-evaluate which units need to be laying down fire and repeat
  3. Buying RT was a good choice for me. I bought Black Sea first and its a great game that I played the heck out of. I look forward to going back to it, but just cant stop loading up another RT quick battle. I always play as the Russians, and I'm accustomed to their weapons and capabilities. Some say its short on content but I guess that's the campaigns which I don't play. Just a great game. Recommended.
  4. I want to echo that I'm pleased you're making these. I'm chewing through the RT ones right now and will be re installing FI.GL in a month or so I can play these then too I'll be able to give feedback when I can fight them out fully .
  5. In an ideal world we could be able to toggle between both modes, but things just aren't that way. Playing lately as the soviets I would like some more broad brush strokes movement order capabilities for infantry. I'd favour more an order set that brought a company together once it has been scattered ,like a "form up on me command" It's all just wishful thinking because I don't see them changing anything drastically - and I'm happy with that. CMx2 in wego mode is by far the best and most immersive play style that I have to choose from. Another title by the same guys might go in that direction sand digger
  6. Happy to hear that. Still a brilliant title.
  7. They look like excellent changes. Thanks for the work - appreciated
  8. OK this will not go down well, but I'd like a Victorian era mod which modeled skirmishers and riflemen in combat using this engine. Not lines of infantry, just skirmishers and Gatling guns, canon. Unfortunately it would also need horses. More suited to a conversion of the WW2 titles but the topic's here so ....
  9. Is this something that could be looked at in a patch ? It seems silly to give the hard mission to the player that just struggled through. I know as a very average player that I get disheartened with h the missions if it looks like Ive blown it. I havent finished one campaign in CM actually.
  10. Hmm OK. thanks. I wasnt looking at experience level at all actually. I should learn it. Cheers
  11. I wonder if the files are accessible. I'd just like to play on Iron but with reduced times for artillery and air support. I get impatient and forget what I was going to do if things don't happen soon. Realism in C2 is more important to me than the timing thing.
  12. Thank you MOS:96B2P. I see what you mean , the difficulty can be changed from one mission to another during the campaign.
  13. These responses are much appreciated. To answer Pelican Pal, I'm keen on armor conflicts more than infantry tactics. Mainly because I'm not too good at using infantry and need to work on that. I love tanks at range. Thanks womble for the round up of x3. I'm a huge eastern front fan too but I'm going to go with Zeverboy's advice I think and go for Black Sea. Jumping form x2 to x3 and then adding all the new weaponry and tactics needed will make a real culture shock, and probably engross me more. Then certainly head back for Red Thunder in a few months or so.
  14. Well Im back and keen to play Combat Mission and would like some advice. Im trying to decide between Red Thunder and Black Sea. Cant justify both right now and its better to play one hard and learn it . This is in the RT forum, but I wonder if anyone has both and can give some idea of what they like about either., I was going to get RT but Black sea looks very good too. Are they both with the x3 engine ? What are the big differences that I will notice coming from Fortress Italy Gustav Line , and the big differences between each game? Any comments or responses are welcome at this stage
  15. Good idea RepsolCBR. I like it. The repository would fill up quickly I think with this kind of scenario. I play QB only and this will be a boon for me.
  16. Plus 1 . Constantly getting smacked by an uber AI will lose you a customer base.
  17. By gameplay I mean changes to the way cover works, eg. Buildings - more cover or less The way accuracy works , lethality , stuff like that. I see most mods are about graphics and sound so I'm asking as it might be that these other things are hard coded.
  18. This is a tough one think in the German campaign. I did well until then and then found that the manor battle has me stumped. Spoilers follow: I got across the open ground OK by knocking out the AT gun and /MG , seized the manor with almost no casualties and thought I was doing pretty well. Then saw the three Shermans. Linear Howitzer strike on them did absolutely no damage even though there are howitzer holes in the ground directly next to individual tanks. Now no mortar or artillery left and these tanks see me and kill my panzers before I see them. I have 7 panzers but I have no confidence that they can take out three shermans. Advice ? (playing on veteran difficulty)
  19. Thanks for the replies chaps. I've read them carefully and absorbed. This is the issue then. I guess it needs hard core careful play in opposition. I missed that in the manual. How do I do that ?? Also those mobile artillery units the Germans have - can their fire be directed to unseen targets ??
  20. Hi there. I'm still on the demo but I played those battles many many times. My record is Invasion at Gela victory with only two dead ! My problem is that it seems the AI is deadly to a point that my armor is taken out too easily. I stay hull down - I got the victory at Gela by being very very careful - but for instance at Viscemi, the Shermans there will kill anything half visible, and remain with tracks damaged to go on to kill after many turns of being hit by my armor. It just gets a bit frustrating that the AI is so resiliant and so accurate. Any thoughts on that ??? BTW happy thanks giving to any Americans out there , and plus 1 to the thanks Battlefront thread. This really is a great great game/sim
