The Dina’s campaign is often mentioned as the favourite CMSF campaign. I never played it (always hoping for a remake for CMSF 2 - and here it comes). I’d be interested to know why you prefer the Syrian theatre?

I was worried they may have been fixed. Still bugged after all these years….

Have been playing Paper Tiger's xnt updated "Gung Ho!" and rediscovered many bugs/weirdness that were reported many years ago but are still present. Eg:
Disembarking a TOW Humvee leaves one with a TOW unit that cannot move nor can it reembark.
While mortar units can share ammo, Javelin units cannot even though the Jav ammo from adjacent units appears in the right hand box as if it were available.
There is still a way to have one FO order two different offmap arty missions simultaneously. I reported that back in 2018 when I discovered that while playtesting TOC (CMBS). (On the other hand, why is it that one FO cannot order more than one fire mission simultaneously, so maybe that is a "good" bug?)
Sniper teams equipped with rifles taking 7.62mm are also carrying 50 cal ammo.
Years ago I posted a Iist of over 20 such items in the hope that they would be addressed at some point. But, it seems that BF is not that interested in updating CMSF2. My hope is that it is because they are working on a CM3 engine.
Is it just me that has a problem with the LAV TOWS not seeing anything in second mission?

That assumes someone who matters is reading the thread .
ChrisND definitely matters, working for Battlefront, and has already answered several questions super quickly.
if only someone would answer my question on the LAV TOW variant thermals/night vision not working

It is pretty frustrating. Looking back at the 2023 plan and seeing how little of new things were actually introduced, with no real updates in the interim. I’m crying out for the Engine 5 update as I can’t really play CMCW at the moment.
Also the promised patches didn’t fix some big issues with the games (my particular bugbear is the TOW Stryker). Underpromise and overdeliver would be preferred. But also more regular updates. -
Great news, a fantastic reason for playing this campaign again, thank you very much indeed

Im kind of dreading the new Hell in the Hedgerows but as long as a defeat is the historical path I guess I’m ok with that. I fear there won’t be much left of the attackers at the end though - I remember many a slaughter on my previous playthroughs.
-
Probably my favourite campaign. I've played through it several times and really looking forward to playing it again!

Sitting here it seems fairly obvious. If it is the jammers that are killing the drones, then go after the jammers. Presumably wait until they light up and then get them with whatever can reach them. Rinse and repeat.
if AD is being used, do the same thing.
once no more jamming/AD, use mass drones to swamp the area where you plan to attack, using thermals wherever possible.
Once ready to attack, have loads of drones in the air and as soon as anything is spotted trying to defend, take it out.
im also assuming the US satellites can spot where the helicopters are operating from? HIMARS them.
I would be recruiting 1000s of drone operators, instead of forming new battalions of troops (or as well as).
I am sure I’m missing something though.

That was a very memorable mission. Replayed the campaign recently. The first time that counterattack freaked me out! Loved the map and the forces. PzII are great for anti personnel work and clearing buildings.
-
More time would definitely take the pressure off a bit, yup.
-
Repairing being more generous would help as I was being very economical in the second mission with the Abrams.
In the second mission too, I don’t think the Stryker ATGMs are working (thermals on that model are still broken I believe).
In the second mission my force was too worn down (I thought) to push on much beyond the main ridge.
i hope to have time to have another run through the campaign in the next month or so.

Looking at the 2023 Update List provided by BFC in January:
- Steam Keys - they have met their schedule for the first three games listed, and CMFB is supposed to be ready Dec or January. So I should think soon for CMFB.
- New Content for CM Games - crickets
- Upgrade 5 - crickets (and their comment was really vague - did not seem to promise anything)
- CM Professional pause - who knows? Not really our business
- Patches - yes we've seen patches released through the year with PBEM+ added in
But very limited patches. Lots of things still not fixed.
-
Is that a fact that CM3 is being worked on?
It would be good to have another update from Steve. Only getting news every year or so is too long for me.
On an M1 Mac and most scenarios in CMCW are effectively unplayable for me due to performance issues. I was really hiding out hope for an engine upgrade that would solve this so I could enjoy the game I purchased. -
One thing others thinking about getting a Mac should be aware of, is that you can’t participate in the tournaments/use the improved PBEM.
-
It seems like forever since there has been a DAR - great that you are doing one

This used to be a bug in some of the games for sure. I can’t remember if I saw it recently.

One doesn't have to really aim to hit a group of relatively low flying and slow moving targets. All that is needed to degrade these types of attacks is to use lots of automatic fire in the general area of a group of these things. They would have to be pretty big to carry a fully loaded infantryman and his weapons systems. Yes, paratroop drops are extremely messy, but even airborne troopers weren't flying horizontally. And let's not forget the mass casualty events EVERY single airborne assault was. Even the successful ones like Normandy. Or to go from another direction, the helicopter borne air assaults of the Vietnam war.
What if it was at night? The drones overfly the main trench lines at speed and high. 2 or 3,000 say, with lots of dummy ones mixed in.

Storm Shadow would be far too expensive as a weapon
This I’m struggling with. How much is a storm shadow? How much is each Ka52 destroying in terms of equipment and lives? Or is it not a question of cost but availability of Storm Shadow?
i don’t know why that video (and the one of the Ukrainians in the minefield - I have had nightmares about that one) has affected me so much. It is such a terrible waste of lives. Why hasn’t Russian civilian population started large scale protests - how many mothers without sons anymore? Just horrific. I can’t rationalise any of this.

Painful. The Russian helicopter fleet is back with a vengeance after floundering so hard last year.
Horrific. Seems like a slaughter.
Satellite imagery to find the helicopter bases, storm shadow the individual helicopters while they are on the ground?
-
It does seem like a problem to me. Isn’t it advised tactically to place your armour within the tree line when setting up ambush positions? If CM current setup means this is penalised then it would be a problem. Intuitively you would expect the opposite to occur. The ambusher spots the moving target in open ground much easier and the ambushed having a very hard time spotting the stationary, in shadow, and partially concealed by foliage ambusher.

This mod, like many others I have embarked upon, has been a great learning experience.
FRANCE 1940: I have learned so much about this phase of the war. Wow. Great stuff. <BFC, maybe you should rethink your hardline? A handful of forumite nobody's has created a damn good product in 9 weeks. Imagine what YOU could do with the keys to the game. No "Fake Lobster!" put downs for you guys. >
I am working with @JM Stuff to do a small sub-mod to FRANCE 1940. We are creating the Chasseurs Ardennais. I plan to do a scenario, or maybe a mini-campaign, for the "Battle of Bodange" in Belgium, as the Germans tried to get through the Ardennes.
For someone about to retire, you are reaching your peak! Going out with a bang? You will be missed!

I just want to correct some of the above.
The Battle Pack does include vehicles from the Vehicle Pack. In fact, I think it might even be necessary to have the Vehicle Pack in order for the scenarios in the Battle Pack to be played. If I recall correctly, the whole point of the Battle Pack was to create scenarios using the Vehicle Pack.
I also made two scenarios specifically for the Steam Release of CMBN that included vehicles from the Vehicle Pack. I redid Colossal Crack and Surrender Invites Death - although I'm not sure where those two scenarios are included exactly in the Steam Release. All I do is put them on the internal server file location thing and BFC Elvis takes them from there. I believe they are named Colossal Crack SR and Surrender Invites Death SR or at least that's how I named them. BFC Elvis would have to say where those remakes were included and perhaps even indicate whether my memory is correct or not - he's the one who does all of that sort of stuff.
I don’t plan to get the steam version but I do have the vehicle pack so it would be good to get a link to the versions if that is possible

If… and this is a huge if, western countries had not supported Ukraine with ammunition, arms and training, I can’t see how Ukraine could have got to now without capitulating. I assume they would have run out of heavy munitions long ago, based on latest US leak, and they wouldn’t have been able to disable anywhere near the Russian equipment/forces that they actually have.
They wouldn’t necessarily have been able to conquer all of Ukraine militarily but the damage inflicted would have led to Ukraine’s surrender.
Am I wrong?

I’m with the not retiring+military contracts=CM3. I hope I’m right.
