    PRELUDE: A Retrospective

    This was our Battalion's first battle against the Hun, in Italy. It has been a rude awakening, and lessons were learned the hard way.
     

    After a heavy bombardment, Jerry pulled back from his defensive line. Little did we know about their well-prepared fallback positions.
     

    Their guns are well positioned, camouflaged and fortified. They make mincemeat out of infantry, and seriously crippled a couple of Shermans.
     

    We tried to advance quickly, to avoid being bled dry in kill-zones. The Hun made great use of automatic weapons and hand-held anti-tank launchers.
     

    We decided to take it slow, to conserve our forces. If this deadly maze is a sign of things to come -- we will need them for taking Celleno.
     

    First, we take our time probing their positions. Second, we slowly surround them. Third, we pound them into submission.
     

    Fourth, Jerry counter-attacks with tanks. This caught us off-guard -- we can expect armoured counter-attacks, going forward.

    Woaww Stephan one day you will be yourself lost with your car, and will confuse your way searching on a CM battlefield...pay attention if you listening some weapons noise this will be the time to turn back...

    well, not Frankfurt directly, but rather a 75km from it. See a lot of deer and wild boars in the forests around where I live. Btw. didn´t mean to not appreciate your voice file modding efforts. It´s just a different approach and matter of taste I´d say. 😎

    Oh my god Ages of Rifles, with this  and Aide de Camp2  ! how much I was playing with this game and principaly the editor where you can represent more periods of war, including Napoleonic time!!
    A must on this time !

    Looks like one CAN do both, creating matching roofs and matching damaged roofs for mod buildings the same time. At least works in editor. Example for 8x8m modular building and Benpark´s F&R german city set (facades). Indices for damaged roofs is a bits different from undamaged ones.
    Format for roofs (example):
    roof1 [germany].bmp       (original)
    roof1 2 [germany].bmp    (indexed variation Nr 2)
    Format:    roofX(space)[modtag]
                     roofX(space)Index(space)[modtag]
    Damaged Roofs (example):
    roof1-damage [germany].bmp       (original)
    roof1-damage 2 [germany].bmp    (indexed variation Nr 2)
    Format:    roofX-damage(space)[modtag]
                     roofX-damage(space)Index(space)[modtag]
    Purpose as said is matching a buildings facades texture set with a given rooftype´s (rooftype1 i.e) texture set. (side walls and/or roof tiles). Gives a more coherent look overall. Remaining problem is roof textures can get swapped in random ways ingame. 😐 At least I got rid of the odd timber frame roofs.

    You can definately put foxholes inside of buildings... I first did it for a CMA scenario I never released & have already done so for a CMSF2 experiment.
    I'm pretty sure I also managed to get a bunker inside a building in CMA but, IIRC, that's no longer possible in CMSF2.

    For H&E...
     
    By default (i.e. modern period)... Facades 9 & 10 have chimneyless roofs
    [bhcw] tag... Facade 8 also features a chimneyless roof
    [boonies]... Facades 6 & 7 also feature chimneyless roofs
     
    So, for most rural scenarios set in the 60's-70's, facades 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 will be chimneyless.
     By default (playing a scenario, without tags, in the 00's), facades 1-8 will be flat roofed.
     
    These roofs were made before we learnt about the blender techniques... so I just alpha'd the chimney textures out.

    After a computer repair and several 60+ hour work weeks, I finally found a little CM time. Took me 6 hours of aggravation to figure out the H&E rooftop mod and then retexture it. But yes, after 20 years, the CM pixelverse finally features a corrugated tin roof! (could do without the European looking chimneys but wevs)

    That doesn’t sound right JM. Do you mean un-Rezexploded brz files? Either way, something is goofy there because there shouldn’t be any type of brz files in the mod tools folder, unless you left them in there after rezexploding them at some earlier time.

    Hahaha, yeah. I asked my Coach to tell me the easiest way to scale it to the CM world...standby.
    I have the bmp art ready to go and we shall see in a few days how it looks in game...
    ..and I will rotate it about the x-axis to have a wingtip touch the ground.
    If I take a couple modder's viagra pills, I will probably TRY to swing open the cockpit glass!

    First time defending in Berlin, with a company of regular infantry, backed up by a platoon of concrete & latest Stug III's, plus a cannon halftrack (SPW 251/22). Man, I love this map! Thank you so much for your great work Ben, BF and crew!
    Anyhoo, I'm quite excited to try out the HT. Could only buy one, 'cuz rarity.  Didn't buy AA. Guess what I heard in the sky after pressing Go on turn one. 😵 Below is one of the cornerstones of my defense: a fortified strongpoint at one end of the road that cuts Potsdamer Platz. After getting the all-clear on opening enemy arty, I sent in the HT to join the ATG to cover the road and tucked it in a nice little ambush position. Then this happended:

    So far, it's been strafed twice, but has emerged unscathed (maybe the buildings help).
    Meanwhile,  the HQ of a machine gun support platoon gets the first spot on incoming Soviets from his upper floor building location near the Haus der Flieger.

    Australian army in PNG. Found cooking pots with the remains of their mates. The Japanese had resorted to cannibalism. Guess how many POW's they made? The info is at the War Memorial and museum in Canberra.
