  1. Is it a propaganda (press) shot? The large numbers (as well other unit markings) were increasingly common later in the war.
  2. Ok might be something with the colors on my screen. But the weathering on edges appears grey to me, perhaps supposed to look like the paint is worn off. However, there would be no grey showing, as at the time the base color was yellow or red.
  3. I have a question, why the grey color in the mods? It was not used anymore in the time frame the game is set in. Still I very much like your work!
  4. I have a question that I would like to have some opinions on. In the game we use the reverse order a lot. But the AI is incapable of managing it. However, is it even slightly realistic to actually drive backwards in a tank for any long distance? Out of immediate view of the enemy I do understand or on flat and open terrain. But in built up areas or forests etc? Pictures and videos of destroyed or under attack AFV show them in all manner of positions while in game my tanks end up dead with their gun dead center. It does give the player an advantage over the AI and somehow it makes the battlefield somewhat bland. I tried playing with a bit less micromanaging and the engagements became quite thrilling (but with somewhat higher casualties) compared to the head on shoot-out I usually get. I think that maybe I could have my own house rule depending on how plausible it is.
  5. Hi, Are the tracks on the turret of the Tiger II modeled in CMRT? I have not seen them on screenshots, however they were seen on some shots from I think Commonwealth or Market Garden? Best regards, Karabekian
  6. I doubt there is any proof that the first Tiger was ever outside Germany. The number 250001 could be on a number of parts as they did not match the hull number. Perhaps some Tiger grog will emerge..
  7. One idea would be to fetch wounded or killed men left behind or capturing prisoners. A lot of small actions were about gathering information or simply keeping the enemy busy by doing harm (destroying equipment or supplies).
  8. A jack block? The solid wooden block on some tanks. As for smoke launchers, it depends on the tank and time of manufacture.
  9. For me it has always been the Eastern front. The brutality, sacrifice, the triumph of the will and ideology. The vast amount of equipment, how it was used, the camouflage schemes, the sheer vastness of it all. I love historical accuracy but also to simply play the game. The number of what-if occasions and unknown or forgotten battles simply make it more interesting to play quick battles for me.
  10. And even then, the majority of them supported the war. In fact, many of them approved of the atrocities committed against Jews (and others). What they really wanted, was a war on their own terms.
  11. I simply an all the way to the last row of bocage (the right side road ends at a building where my AT gun got to stay (IIRC the default deployment for it)) and placed most of my troops there, mortars to the extreme left. A Pz IV backed the AT gun from as far back as possible. The middle road I kept with a few AT armed infantry and half tracks at the crossroads. The entire right flank (from the middle road all the way to the right) of the map was held by a sniper team, halftrack and the King Tiger (I placed it to the right of the hill). I managed to get most of my vehicles out but my infantry had some heavy casualties. Lost the AT gun (but no crew) and in a furious battle to the right I lost the King Tiger and its driver (the tank got immobilized as I was about to pull it off the map, just 200m from the EXIT zone!). Unfortunately I lost a Pz IV retrieving the Tiger (to a lowly Bazooka).
  12. As well as the Panzer II, 38t, a lot of horses etc. We could simply conclude that the war was futile in itself and end the discussion. But as it happened, they were really, really motivated to fight this one out, whatever the outcome.
  13. Anti tank guns were not that easy to disable with tanks historically. Unless you have something heavier or manage a direct hit.
  14. Quite the opposite. Without the heavy tank battalions the Germans would have collapsed sooner on the Eastern front. It was simply not possible to recover these situations with medium tanks. IE. Citadel, Prussia 1945.. These tactical successes (keeping the German army intact despite losing the initiative) were the backbone of so many actions and were achieved by the heavy tank battalions supporting other units. In fact, they remained mostly successful throughout the war. The Panther was never suited to a breakthrough tank and by late 1944 and 1945 especially, were even by the Germans considered simply too weak against the soviets, especially in counter attacks that were crucial to not further stagnate the defense as well as preventing encirclement. Also they simply lacked the manpower and resources to maintain a large fleet of tanks ill suited to the situation at hand. And the Panther was still a somewhat problematic machine, made even worse by the decline of the industry.
  15. Youtube comment: "Simulation games, like Combat Mission generally gather the most intelligent, polite, and friendly gamers that exist.". Enough for me to keep reading this forum. And buy the games.
  16. It would be as easy to find a winter mod (check CMMODS) and a mod enabler, or simply use the Z folder. You can use a single tile of your choosing to represent snow. The menu is for FI.
  17. The Germans themselves did not see it like that. From their experience the problem was that the time required for maintenance was often not available. This was a problem that had appeared with the Tiger I already. The sPzAbt were so valuable that they were given very little respite once they were sent in, being constantly deployed even if the machines were not available or thoroughly serviced. This lead to failures during road marches and once deployed, depleted, to even further losses. If the operation was a failure, this would in the worst case lead to total loss of all armor, broken down during the road march, damaged in action as well as even further breakdowns of the depleted machines during retreat. Of course the increased weight of the heavy tanks made any recovery a cumbersome operation even in favorable conditions. But then again Albert Ernst found the Jagdtiger quite valuable, as he was already used to Panzejägers. Carius worst concern was probably the deployment of the Jagdtiger as a replacement for the tank.
  18. They are good enough. The ones I have seen have DEKA tires that look somewhat like the ones in CM. CMx2 is not quite up to the standards of the newest games (where dirt accumulate on tires, dust, damage etc.. But I love the way the tanks and vehicles look in CM, have done since CM:BO.
  19. Regarding the amount of ammunition, the total would be 48(+/-2?) for the hull as well as 22(+/-2?) for the turret racks. However, storing ammunition in the turret rack was considered dangerous and in some it was discontinued altogether. I do not know if the above numbers are for the "Porsche" or the "Serien turm/production turret". If for the Porsche, then the additional (more than 80) might be for the production turret. However, adding even more ammunition in the already considered dangerous turret rack in the production turret even if the additional space made it possible might not have been common.
  20. But still it is a lot rougher than most models in-game. Just had a Pz IV next to it in a scenario. The KT does look out of place. Lower quality wheels, tracks as well as many of the smaller details.
  21. Would it be better if HT gunners could button up but keep firing. Similar to tanks and infantry firing "briefly" even after direct LOS is lost. The gunner sees target, opens fire, receives fire, ducks but still gets of a few bursts in the general direction? Is it really that wrong for HT gunners to be so visible? I doubt they could see anything from a moving HT trough the gap in the shields IRL. But an additional lower position could be suitable?
  22. I believe it is due to the player we have so many casualties on tank crews, just as is the case with half tracks. The pixelmann could not possibly know that it is driving towards a threat and as such, it is you who should take the precaution of buttoning up or keeping your men out of harm. Whenever there is a dangerous area within 300 meters, button. I believe they would have done it in reality too. This way I have few casualties in tank crews, and also have to (I think) realistically rely on other units to spot for them.
  23. I an into some fresh, out of the factory German equipment today near Arnhem. I prefer them worn. Appreciate your work!
  24. The J was definitely built with four rollers as well. The modifications listed on wikipedia are a list of modifications that took place during the production run. The individual tanks varied according to factory and available materiel. But judging by photos the deleting of the fourth road wheel must have taken place late in 1944. Photos earlier seem to have a lot of them with four, while by Wacht am Rhein the ones with three are everywhere. Photos from Arnhem have them with four, IIRC.
