I think he needs updating if he's basing his opinion of CM on series 1.
I'm happy for someone who's already made contact with him to send him a link to one of my vids, the Bear Claws AAR seems most popular. Or as @MOS:96B2P says any of the Armchair General series.

One of the videos by Colonel Paulding at Armchair General.  Hearing a retired Colonel talk favorably about Combat Mission and use the game to demonstrate real world tactics should impress him.

Hello! I have been watching Military History Visualized for quite awhile. (Possible 2-3 years I believe). I have watched every single one of his videos ever since I've subscribed to him and I remember there was this video him playing and discussing the Steel Division game. I commented on there as well as a couple others in which we mentioned Combat Mission and other games such as Graviteam Tactics.
I remember seeing a reply to one of the comments and he does know about them I believe. He mentioned that the reason why he hasn't covered them yet is because he has limited time to play games for himself and to analyze them.
I'm sure from remembering his comment that if we could get a lot of people to comment on one of his videos to ask if he would cover Combat Mission OR if someone perhaps is a Patreon of his, he will probably answer a question if you have it. Anyways, just my two cents. He's got great content and always makes us history lovers appreciate his work. Really wish he would give his opinion on CM and it's accuracies...

Basically, glTexImage2D function loads images into GPU memory and glDeleteTextures deletes them from GPU memory. From a trace capture, I saw that images for the scene were loaded into memory when entering battle and they get deleted when exiting battle to main menu. While flying around the map and looking at things near and far, no glDeleteTextures calls are made. If you don't want to take a trace, you can verify this by watching the GPU memory consumption through the stages of being in the main menu, loading a save and quitting to main menu. My GPU has 4096 MB of VRAM and the highest usage that I saw (with the help of GPU-Z) was slightly above 1300 MB. It's definitely possible to exceed this in more complex scenes.

Finished the first mission again - this time with predictably muuuuch better results.

    Start of hidden spoiler text:
As I said before this time I used only 2 tanks and 1 platoon of soldiers on their halftrucks with one additional scout team from another platoon, the dedicated sniper and forward observer team.  Due to much slower pace and less units to accomplish tasks with I almost ran out of time. Managed to finish everything when I only had 4 minutes left. Knowing where the enemy was was of big help of course. One funny occasion was when I proceeded to the first occupy objective and then all of the sudden an enemy armored car came down the main road behind the back of all my units. I haven't experienced this before because we have put a hole in it before that could happen I guess. It was like little David against the Goliath fight but the Goliath aka me won this time, hehe. That little car had so many targets too choose and could have mowed down one of my squads that was camping totally exposed in front of him but that little devil preffered to choose more beefe  targets and started plinking at my halftracks but got quieted after a few seconds with my one tank that was just barely able to shoot at it with the projectile flying down the length of the road just next to my halftracks who were neatly positioned in line behind the aforementioned tank. Was quite a sight, ha ha.

Due to doing more work with my 2 lead tanks in order to preserve my mechanized infantry chaps they carried the brunt of the enemies wrath - one tank is down to only 7 HE ammo now and the other is quite badly beaten up (see attached photo). It was hit 3 times. Once from a tank and twice from the AT gun. The first hit partly damaged tracks, optics and radio, the second one made a big hole in the upper hull from the AT gun (that did zero damage to the tank and the crew, must have been really lucky there, eh!?) and one smaller dent in the glacis which caused armor spalling but fortunately no injuries of the crew. They do stand their ground these mark 4's after all. Before I considered them to be no match - pretty much one hit and that's it. Am respecting them more now.
    End of hidden spoiler text.

    Hi @Hister
Excellent job! I'm impressed with that. That's way better than anything I've managed in it!
    Re your comments:
    Possible spoiler hidden text
There are several AI Plans - looks like you triggered one of the variations which has the armoured cars pulled out pronto but the circling back around (basically they are not looking for kills but spotting your units...).
Your approach with the armour was spot on. The Panzer IVs can take a beating mine - were in a sorry state by the end of the campaign! Hardly any had operational radios and most had lost their tank commanders.
    Spoiler END
This success will set you up well for the following missions.
Thanks again for taking the time to post your comments - look forward to the next despatches from the front line.

Yes, ha ha. If you check his posts in this thread you'll find it. It surprised me because not a while ago he said human eyes cannot see frames above 30 fps.
Bottom line is 60 frames is not the upper limit as you claimed if the 1000 frames claim is a miss or not.

Also, I don't know if anyone has mentioned it on this thread, but I have found that limiting the frame rate through NVIDIA Inspector to 60 fps greatly improves smoothness. On my system, this is due to the fact when I look at a scene that is not busy, such as the sky or the horizon, the GPU will render the scene at a very high frame rate. Even though a scene is simple, this increases the temperature of the GPU and even makes the fan kick in. Transitioning to a more busy scene creates a stutter where the frame rate can drop into the teens while the GPU cools down and the various clock speeds adjust themselves.

I only bumped into his channel a few days ago. Yes, many of his points he makes in the video are ticked by CM. And he also asks that if someone knows of the game that delivers many of those points he should be notified about it. This video is not recent so I'm not sure if he monitors comments from his previous videos much especially since he has so much content available and above 100k views per video...
He is practically my neighbor - not sure if he lives in Austria or in Germany now but he is Austrian. He is also a school-case example of how German and Austrian mind works - it's very analytical and methodical as are his videos.

CM game series comes pretty darn close to the perfect war game. I am really surprised this prolific youtuber hasn't come across Combat Mission games yet.

Nah...This is Engine 4, and no need for Big HE to realistically reduce buildings and occupants...Just need to use Small Arms or have small HE rounds fall anywhere on the Map to make sure the Building Occupants flee in quick manner
Whatever happened when it realistically took several minutes or hours to take a Block of buildings...From an excerpt from "Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan"..."According to myth, the Earth was created in six days (then, v3). Now, watch out! Here comes Genesis! (v4) We'll do it for you in six minutes!

Any news on a patch that will fix the current suicidal rout issues? I've been working on a large urban map for CMRT with heavy use of multi-part buildings that should be offering excellent defensive material, due to the potential for units to ambush and fall back to safe parts of the building out of LOS. However, very frequently, units are running out of the building into the open (and usually toward the enemy) once they receive any decent enemy fire response.  This is happening even when they are protected by an outer ring at the bottom floor of a multi-story complex. In other words, say they are on the 3rd floor (but could be the 8th, it doesn't matter) of a central part that is connected to a 1-story outer ring that would completely shield them if they just go to the bottom of the 3-story section they are in. Well, instead they are passing through the safe ring and out into the open to be shot down. This makes what should be very formidable building complexes rather easy to take. No flamethrowers needed. Just rattle the cage and shoot the birds when they fly out.
This problem also seriously affects infantry AT teams in buildings. Unless the unit pause workaround is used,  once they fire from a building (and thus panic themselves), they tend to suicide rout into the open, despite any available out-of-LOS cover in adjacent connected building sections. Of course, if they are hard-paused, they will also stay put to receive any enemy return fire instead of the ideal of taking a shot and retreating to sure safety by use of an initial timed pause (the use of which currently makes them vulnerable to suicide rout once freed from the pause).
It seems that complex building structures that should be supplying super-cover might actually make the potential for suicidal rout worse. Without the pause command used for a hard pause--maybe dealbreaker worse.
I know that the next CMRT module is supposed to have huge Berlin maps. Both for my map (which will probably be used for a H2H campaign that integrates the new units, to be released post-module) and for those, I'd really like to see the suicidal rout issue taken care of.

    +1
In addition to scalable UI, have also longed for a revamped ACQUIRE routine that allows units to swap weapons and ammo with adjacent units (with limitations of course); the ability of being able to order the AI to move a main weapons a few inches so it can attain LOS and shoot at what the 3rd loader can see and shoot at; one mouse click ability to set 180 degree arcs (as in CM1) etc etc.
It's the UI that really needs TLC so that players can waste less time on figuring out how to do certain things using the game interface (eg making multiple mouse clicks when one could do), and spend that time on the more fun decisions re tactics & strategy.

And then you'll be complaining that CM3 doesn't have all the units/nationalities/features/etc. as CM2 (as I will).
As much as I like the idea of CM3 (and the cool stuff I imagine it could have), I do not want to see it any time soon, unless what we have now can be brought along somehow. I do not want to go through all the waiting for theaters/time periods/vehicles/formations/nationalities/features again. It's been a really long road just to get here. I sure as h*** don't want to go back to square one. I'd rather see them push CM2 as far as they can. Stuff like new animations and the like could help freshen it up.

LOL... the 13 fps is very smooth. FWIW, I am sensitive to screen refresh. I can see 60 hz...and don't like it. (My peripheral vision detects 60 hz or lower. Straight on it's much more subtle, but still visible. Yes, my career and personal well-being has depended upon visual acuity. Luckily, not so much any more. )
Freesync/Gsync are very cool technologies which smooth out the video experience. I recommend testing it out at a store, if you can. Or at a friend's. Whichever is cheaper.

I was going great guns in the KG von Schroif campaign, with minimal casualties, until I hit the mission where you have to take a large area of woods (split into four objective areas).
    --------------- Possible Spoilers -----------------
Crossing the large areas of open ground made recon on foot impractical and the overall geography meant recon by fire wasn’t really a viable option either.
    Cue recon by burning halftrack.
This was one nasty, nasty scenario. The mission features an excellently laid out defence, centred around a couple of very cunningly positioned AT guns backed up by some very hard to shift infantry. The objectives are difficult to reach and the defenders seem to be able to shoot with impunity from areas that seem almost impossible to return fire at.
Although I only lost two halftracks, I lost a lot of infantry in this mission which doesn’t bode well for further operations.
    --------------- End Spoilers -----------------
This is an excellent campaign and features the best CM maps I’ve seen – very evocative of actual Polish terrain. If you haven’t downloaded and played it, do so now.
Great work and a big, big thanks to George.
