Thank you for the reply. Yes, very helpful! i didn't know about the shift. i was noticing the red target after max moving, but that was hard to use properly. now i can see how they would be helpful spotting for other naval.

I'd like to know how to actually use them. how do i recon with them? i set one in the ocean and surrounded it by enemy ships and it doesn't see anything. then i move the carrier at one of the squares where a ship is and i have contact whereby i'm damaged. i imagined a red bombing target like on recon bombers. even if i want to recon 2 squares away it will move me there, possibly leading to contact. how do they work?

How are these used properly? sometimes i will see areas or units with a white outline and i spot further than other naval, but sometimes it doesn't do anything. i've been trying to spot around enemy harbors out of their view.
