  1. I think I can make a mod to create 3 distinct Carriers! I will purchase the Universal Carrier, the Bren Carrier and the Vickers Carrier. I think they normally ALL look for the same bmp as a base model. But I can trick-fugg the mdr file to rename the bmp's they look for. I have some research to do for the formation signs. I don't really know what names they used for the vehicles in this unit (3 GRENADIER GUARDS). I decided to have the names start with the letter G. Poetic License. Gwendolynn T5653 Gorilla T5637 Gosport T5644
  2. I have stuff all over the place in this CM forum. I scratch my head sometimes on where exactly is best to write or record or note something that I am doing. I picked this thread to show, for whoever cares to read it, how I will create my first BEF scenario. There are youtube videos and pdf's for CM scenario creation. I can't say this will be a great place to learn anything new but it will show how my brain works. Take it or leave it. SCENARIO SEEDS: I get inspired or get an idea from several of my usual places. One source is the ASL scenario archive. I honestly do not have a strong knowledge of France 1940. It seems like such a short timeframe of May-June 1940 but it DOES have tons of scenario seeds waiting to grow a CM scenario. the archive has a search engine and I found actually 2 small scenarios covering the same historical battle with just infantry and Universal Carriers aka "bren carriers". It was 21 May 1940 near Esquelmes, Belgium. The BEF unit was 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards, part of the British 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One, hahaha just kidding, wrong army!) Nicholls and Nash https://www.aslscenarioarchive.com/scenario.php?id=58768 Carrier Assault on Poplar Ridge https://www.aslscenarioarchive.com/scenario.php?id=60991 Lots of great documentation on the battle. https://www.historyhit.com/all-hell-broke-lose-how-harry-nicholls-won-his-victoria-cross/ http://ww2talk.com/index.php?threads/war-diary-3rd-battalion-grenadier-guards-bef-sep-1939-to-jun-1940.27587/page-2 I have old maps from the 1930's. I have google earth. I have started the map in CM. I am working on the mods for the Bren Carriers and the Grenadier Guards battledress. I will keep you posted here how it shapes up over the next few weeks and then I HOPE to do a PBEM DAR here to display the scenario and mod.
  3. A smart guy like @laurent 22 will start a vehicle mod by FIRST using a "color grid" analysis so he knows the 2D-3D arrangement on the UV map. I tend to cut corners and get lazy. A few tries of just making the new camo and I can usually figure out the odd areas. Trial and error I guess. One of my favorite sources for making vehicle mods are the aftermarket scale model decal companies. Like "Bison" and "Star". In their sales websites, sometimes I can download the decal instructions which are full color and have great info on the unit and timeframe. Below is a cropped excerpt from one of their beautiful sheets. Also...I often go "font hunting" when I see something written on a vehicle. I have done a simple copy and paste BUT having the closest font to what I see is much better. I think this F9755 is fairly well represented by Stardos Stencil font. You can grab it for free here. I will install the font and use it in GiMP to add text to some of my BEF vehicles. https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Stardos+Stencil?preview.text=ARCHER F9755&preview.text_type=custom
  4. Daimler Dildo Mk I in standard G.3/G.4 from 1st Armoured Division. I got some places wrong for the colours. Often the bmp is mirrored or inverted. Just to make it fun. But I can feex it boss-man.
  5. Wild guess but read the readme? Usually there are 2 offerings and you choose just 1 based on your computer being IBM PC with Windows "Win" OS Or the Mcintosh OS. I a-hope this a-helps <Jarjar voice>
  6. @BFCElvis is the man to eventually solve your woes but he probably needs an official help ticket. Go here to see the help desk... https://www.battlefront.com/support
  7. I just wanted to reach out to CMFI players that I am working on this mod. Anybody who wants to be involved can PM me. We can always use modders to help or folks who want to write scenarios for BEF 1940. I am keeping progress posts over in the general discussion mod tips subforum.
  8. No hurry. I was trying to have an actual British lad involved!
  9. Hi Tim. How goes it in Blighty? I am putting energy into the BEF1940 mod. If your PBEM plate clears up in a few weeks I would like to do one of those DARs and showcase the new mod in the forums...
  10. That is it for today. Headed to the dining room project.
  11. This first one is my attempt to "fake lobster" the A13 Cruiser MK.III into the CMFI BEF1940 MOD. It doesn't have the sloped armor add on turret of the A13 Cruiser MK.IV. I read last night that my color scheme was the standard called "G.3/G.4" based on the British Army color codes. I think I picked the correct colors. Or should I say, correct colours? You bloody wankers! I will try to add a cupola. A few other little tasks. I feel; like I am building a model. I better open a window the glue is getting me light headed. I will do some stuff to make it better but disregard other things. For example, I DID relocate the smoke grenade launchers from the original mantlet area to the right side turret. But I am gonna not worry about editing the gun and coax MG relationship and shape.
  12. Thanks for the kind words. A couple other guys took me up several notches by sprinkling their magic into my "fake lobster"...Without them it would not be near as good. @Damian45 has several awesome uniform mods YET to be showcased. I will get there I promise. @Falaise has some BEF stuff that will see its debut very soon. @JM Stuff is working a Belgium map and scenario as well. Maybe later in the fall or winter we shall see that Battle Pack.
  13. I used Bovington's A13 as my rough guide...though I need some layer scaling. I recolored the roadwheels and changed the normal maps too.
  14. Cup of coffee in hand I spent some time on the hull and roadwheels in Blender and GiMP. I modified the mesh of the wheels to look more A13 like and ditched the lights and antenna. The wheels function properly in tests. I did start the camo job and added some initial markings. Maybe tomorrow the turret.
  15. I will put my notes here... My BEF Tank will be in a combo of: BS Dark Green (British Standard) Hex code 5A584D Khaki Green Number 3 hex code 8A865D Something like this guy I hope...
  16. I got some free STL files for 3D printing tiny models for tabletop gaming. British early war tanks. I will use them as the pattern for the distinctive Cruiser A13 MkIV turret. I also decided I will not try to reduce roadwheels from 5 to 4. I don't know how to make that adjustment. But I am trying to change the shape of the roadwheels a bit. One good thing..*If* I do get this done I can also use the A13 for North Afrika.
  17. @gregb41352 Earth to Major Tom --- I mean Major Greg...Come in Major Greg. Did you figure it out like last time?
  18. I like this website. Especially the DAK War Diary Entries with comments... https://rommelsriposte.com/tag/afrika-korps/
  19. PM sent as friendly offer to provide help if you need/want and hopefully I have the answer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EDITORIAL RANT: BFC could make easy money with a new AFRIKA title. They could borrow their ignorant "go backwards" system from CMRT. The base game code of CMFI would be copied and pasted and edited into a new title that straddles November 1942 to May 1943. CMOT? Combat Mission Operation Torch? I dunno. The desert files from CMSF2 could be ported over. Tunisian stuff would most likely be doable under that umbrella. Lots of the same flavor objects already sitting on the shelf as old content. A bunch of CMAK scenarios could be reworked. 16 is the magic number Steve always asks for I think. 2 campaigns: 1 US and 1 German. How many new vehicles are needed to be modelled? I don't know. Not that many would be my guess. Charles works 60 hours a week Steve said when I asked if Charles was just part-time. That was 6 months ago maybe? That is 26 weeks ago. 1560 man-hours ago? COME ON POWERBALL!!!
  20. Fire up old Bessie CMFI. Scenario editor. Mission-data set to June 1944 Italy Units-purchase axis-German Army-armor formations Purchase Panzer Battalion 43 (mixed) On the right side, click up at the overall battalion to expand it out. Click up at the + sign to make it reddish. You can expand it all out to companies and platoons also if you want. Just make sure it stays reddish on that right panel. Down low you have your options, pick Panzer Aufklarung to make it green with an arrow " > " in green. Then over a few columns select PzIII and PzIIIG You should see that platoon change to G's. (in the support company) Then make sure the entire battalion stays reddish... Down low you have your options, NOW pick Pz IIIN (late) to make it green with an arrow " > " in green. Then over a few columns select PzIII and PzIIIG 50mm You should see that Bn HQ troop change to G's. You can then go back and delete out vehicles and platoons and purchase some long 50mm. My mods have the PzIIIN(late) I forget, my mod makes it a PZIVD. I think my mod ditches the skirts with transprencies. EDIT: Return date back to July 1943 and save scenario. Enjoy North Africa! Remember with bitterness how BFC could do all this so easily but are too busy.
  21. When I was trying to make the PzKfw I, the same thing happened. I slightly moved the roadwheels and they went bonkers. I couldn't figure it out so I went a different route.
