  1. I played a campaign scenario where there was no resupply for the Stg44s at all. I suspect that it was just a design mistake.
  2. Statistically flail tanks only were able to clear 60-80 % of mines depending on the version. And, the Germans more and more were sewing conventional minefields with mines with wooden and concrete casing making them very difficult for magnetic mine detectors to find them. I think this is the reason why for the short time span allowed in the game, a minefield cannot be fully cleared.
  3. One of the issues with any external MG was the tendency for them to get hung up and bent our of shape when the vehicle went through heavy brush. This was an issue with any device or fixture that stuck out from the tank-such as the ATW plates on German tanks. Sooner or later they just got ripped off. I think this is one of the main reasons that the British passed up on the external MG.
  4. Saw some decent scenarios but are there any good campaigns out there for RT?
  5. Really a very interesting video and clarifying. The Panther was not just "marginally" better off road than the Sherman. And I always concluded that light tanks would be more flexible in off road conditions but the opposite is the reality. But was the Sherman better in on road performance? Due to mechanical reliability and longer track life. That would be a factor in Western Europe where a lot of tank action took place on roads. And, perhaps it was a design choice as the Sherman would have then been a better break through and exploitation weapon. Was this the concept that the American designers were basing the design on? I have not clue and am throwing this out for comment.
  6. My dream is to see Allied troops picking up the occasional faust and using them.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I understand the effort it goes into producing a campaign. How about for the older modules? I really have only played the stock campaigns and wonder if there are some good use made.
  8. And direct me to it? Thank. I find for solo play that the campaigns are very satisfying and provide excellent practice.
  9. Ok so say I upgrade to a 400-450 PSU. and a better video card. Will this model HP and case handle the heat?
  10. Yeah, this one might do nicely. Not a bull, but I am pretty much done with high end video games so it won't matter. My last machine was a custom build. I should have researched this one a bit more, but otherwise it is a good desktop. It sort of pisses me that I can't play CM on my HP laptop either. That does not make much sense.
  11. No it a desktop. mid line model p7 1380-t. I really was surprised to fine out that it could not handle CM.
  12. Apparently the stock video card that comes with my new HP Pavilion won't run CM and I am told I will need to install a card. Problem is that this thing only has a 300 watt PSU. Can someone recommend a decent video card that will work with 300 watt supply and not overheat my machine? I am not into high end gaming such as Call of Duty. More strategic games such as CM so really do not expect to need a very powerful card. Just decent to run a few movies and play CM Thanks,
  13. Thanks, you may have hit this one for me. I am playing a stock scenario and just don't find it very good. Very dull symmetrical meeting engagement with relatively equal forces, terrain and reinforcement groups and times of entry. It only figures that the terrain is lacking as well. Like you say, the buildings are just plopped down in the map with very little supporting terrain around them. This is Italy for petes sake. Where are the stone walls? But I still can't believe that infantry can't enter rubble. The enemy actually gets rewarded for creating rubble. Who thought this was a good idea? If I were playing Stalingrad, I would have to evacuate the city.
  14. In comparison to the old CM, it seems much more difficult to protect infantry from tanks and arty. It is hard to believe that I can't move infantry into rubble. Basically, if your opponent has a large tank force, it just pays for him to systematically rubble buildings, even if empty, to deny the coverage to the infantry and force them to move in the open. Also, is just does not seem like reverse slopes offer much protection for infantry or AT guns. Any tips for protecting my units? What is the best terrain for them and the best way to move in fight when faced with a lot of heavy ordinance? Aside from bocage. What is the best way to conceal AT guns? I try to hide them in terrain but they seem to get spotted a great deal before firing a shot. Also, is it just me or do MGs never jam in CM2?
  15. I can't even remember how I stumbled on Beyond Overlord. It sure as heck was not by conventional means. Somebody somewhere just mentioned it and I was hooked as soon as I got it. Still am.
  16. Too bad they can't fire out of a building in a critical situation but risk damage. I guess I just miss my old "Advanced Squad Leader." Woe to those that rolled a one on the colored die...
  17. Is there a way to use them? For example I turned my gun HT around to use the 50 cal but then discovered that there is no target light button. What about HT with two MGs front and back. When and how is the rear MG used? Is is AI controlled and never under the control of the player?
  18. I have had the game on my computer for a while but have no idea what my CD key was. Do I need to know it to install the 2.0 add on, the Commonwealth add on?
  19. Well, not knowing the design mechanics it is possible that a mortar or gun that is in its original set up position could have a stockpile of ammo but moving the units limits it to what it could actually carry. This would make sense as well.
  20. Yes, I have been wailing away with the brixias as I did not think they had much punch. I will try to be a little more patient with them. Question, since they were pretty much like a grenade launcher will they penetrate the roofs of buildings?
  21. No, I did not but will watch closely next time. This makes sense as I was using quick move. I don't think it is a bug as the ammo supply reverted back to normal after the move was completed.
  22. Yes, I am slowly getting down the tactical nuances of the game and FI is indeed very enjoyable. This is my first email battle and I am feeling my way. I was just getting used to fighting in the Bocage and now the terrain is a bit more open. You have to be patient with Italian troops because they have such light firepower and use the half squads equipped with LMGS as fire support. I have one recon squad that has four SMG equipped men in it. It is pretty useful.
