  1. The problem with simulating drones in X years is we are still very early in the cycle.  Will thousands of small drones work or will they be readily countered by thousands of the opponent's small drones.  Will larger armed drones work or will a small drone take them out (or make them so expensive to be very limited).  Will ground defenses be improved now that drones are becoming more of a threat and if so what will that do?  All guesses at this point.

  2. AI may replace programmers someday, but today is most certainly not that day.  I've tried AI code generation to help me a couple of times when internet search was coming up with wrong answers - the AI came up with exactly the same wrong answers, it just was more assertive in the incorrect answers it gave.  To put it another way, AI for programming at least, is currently nothing more than a fancy internet search algorithm.

Pershings were classed as mediums I think, so I'm not sure why they were in 'heavy' companies unless simply to distinguish them from Sherman companies.  Someone with more knowledge will be along shortly I'm sure.

What I read is that it was a bit of psychology.  They called them Heavies so the troops would have more confidence in them versus the big cats they came up against.

  4. From what I have read in WWII the Russians and Germans pretty much ran a unit into the ground and then took it out to reorganize.  Though just as often they left it in combat and put another fresh unit right beside it.  The US did the Replacement pool and kept feeding new guys into existing units without normally doing any reorganization as such.  Switching around experienced NCOs and Officers was about it.  There were still other times when sub-units where mixed together too though.

Long story short - just about anything and everything was done at some point by every army.

  5. The 85, 82, and 90% figures are such that they would not be reorganized.  That is pretty much "full" strength for a unit that has been in any kind of battle.  Even in western armies it would take getting down to 65% strength or so before being reorganized.  Even at the 65% or so more likely new leaders would be chosen if needed and the Repple Depple would send in replacements (for the US).  Perhaps not even taking the unit(s) out of the line.

Nah. Outbound fire ignores all vegetation within a small radius of the shooter, on the x and y axes. IIRC it's 8 meters, but don't quote me.

I've had a tank hit trees in adjacent grid square, or is this for mortars and indirect fire weapons?  I don't think I ever remember them hitting something in the firing location.

  7. Ethernet cables can be up to 300 feet before needing a repeater.  Amazon has some very good ones in 100 foot length (get more than you think you need, hiding the excess is normally fairly easy but not having enough is always a pain).

I ran my cables under through an airduct down to the basement (a hole just big enough to push a cable through the side) then up through another duct so the cable is not laying on the floor.  I also used a cheap switch ($20 or so) to allow 4 devices to hook up to the switch.

At my mother's that was not an option so I used ethernet over coax since she had coax outlets near where she wanted the PC and the other one was where the cable box is.  The power line connectors also work well most of the time but when they don't work they are garbage (something to do with how the house wiring is done, I have had them work really well and really badly on different days - then switched to the coax version that works great all the time and is much faster, as fast as my internet signal)

Here is a link to the COAX connectors:   https://www.amazon.com/Actiontec-ScreenBeam-Network-Adapter-Ethernet/dp/B08ML1TSXC/ref=sr_1_1?crid=O6Z8M9ZH9M9G&keywords=ScreenBeam%2BBonded%2BMoCA%2B2.5%2BNetwork%2BAdapter%2Bfor%2BHighest%2BSpeed%2BInternet%2C%2BEthernet%2BOver%2BCoax%2B-%2BStarter%2BKit&qid=1683161563&s=electronics&sprefix=screenbeam%2Bbonded%2Bmoca%2B2.5%2Bnetwork%2Badapter%2Bfor%2Bhighest%2Bspeed%2Binternet%2C%2Bethernet%2Bover%2Bcoax%2B-%2Bstarter%2Bkit%2Celectronics%2C66&sr=1-1&th=1

  8. In the short term almost certainly not (and indeed would most likely hurt).  CM is, from a programming standpoint, a one man band.  For this to work other programmers would need to be brought on board and until they are up to speed they would take up Brain Jar Guys time.  After about a year or so though...  (that is if enough money is coming in to justify keeping the new coder(s))
