How to Start a Game!
A Canadian Cat replied to Zugzwang919's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
@StieliAlpha has outlined the procedure and expectations. I have encountered what you experienced for two reasons: My opponent has sent you his turn file instead of the one he generated for you. Unless you are doing a rare blue on blue or red on red scenario the flag or symbol for the country you are playing should be there next to the password box. If the flag is not the side you expect then your opponent sent you the wrong file or, I miss typed my password when I created it. Oh man that sucks but I have done it before. Once I was able to figure out what I had done by purposefully tweaking the capitalization and dropping letters but several times I have had no luck and been forced to start again. Manually copying files is error prone using a turn manager and drop box is a much better way to go. Once you get past what ever problem this is check out this thread on using turn managers to deal with the file copying problem: -
Sulomon vs Oleksandr: A Quick Battle AAR
A Canadian Cat replied to Sulomon's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
Very cool - love AARs. Another good way to make use of the BMP's is to put out a smoke screen. Their smoke launchers throw the smoke generators quite far forward. Two or three BMPs can create a very significant smoke screen. Even with the availability of IR sensors they can be helpful - against Ukraine very much so - they have a lot less IR sensor equipped vehicles.- 33 replies

I think that depends on what caused it though. I have seen it myself when <alt> tabbing at the wrong moment. In that case as you say it is fixable. But I remember at least one other person that had it happen and no amount of keyboard clicking helped.

Very true and good advice for all our world leaders. -

A Canadian Cat replied to bangers's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
I get what you are saying but I think that it was a decision he was incapable of making. His extreme prejudice and arrogance that went along with his ideas of eugenics meant he was likely not able to see the world in the way he would have needed to. Indeed. -
Yeah I agree contacting support would be a good idea. There have been a few people who reported that spinning problem but most people have never seen it and I cannot remember what or if there was a resolution. Crashing is also something that is uncommon but not a few have hit before.

The fact the CMBN works and the others do not says to me your user account directory has changed. Assuming this is windows we are talking about: The game exe can be run from anywhere. But the scenario files, saved games etc have to be under the windows my documents directory for your account. To fix this look at where windows says your my documents directory is. Under there should be a Battlefront director which contains the GameFiles director etc. Find where you moved that too and put it back. All will be well.

Thanks, it is more a chance of happening thing so a single saved game just shows what was picked once. I'll take those settings and generate a bunch of force compositions and see how often stuff like that happens. Speaking of which I forgot to ask you one other thing - is this an infantry only battle?

How to Start a Game!
A Canadian Cat replied to Zugzwang919's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
From the sounds of it things are actually OK. Send the files a couple of more times. The first turn is always a password set only. And in quick battles sometimes you just get to pick forces and not setup. There is also a scenario where you feel like you skip a turn at the start - it has to do with early Intel settings. Once the game is setup and going every turn will be the same - watch a minute, give orders for the next minute. -

They look at and fix everyone we report to them. Out here we often see people talking about a bridge bug but the truth of the matter is there have been many - each one reported and squashed along the way. There are a ton of corner cases for us to hit with the different terrain, bridges, speeds and vehicles etc. There is not doubt that pathing over bridges is much better than in CMBS 1.0 but I bet there are still a few bugs left to find.

Oh yeah, stay humble. No matter how good you are the other side is trying hard to out do you...

Let's see if we can get this done before yoru nephew even gets to see it . In the thread I linked above there is a screen shot of the control panel repeated here for clarity: In the control panel choose the "Manage 3D Settings" and then in panel on the right select "Program Settings" and then press the Add button. Navigate to where the game is installed the setup the way the card will behave when the game is launched. After that you can tweak the other settings too as suggested in the above thread.

BMP-1 Sand Coloring
A Canadian Cat replied to IICptMillerII's topic in CMSF Scenario and Mod Design Forum
?? I don't recall Steve saying anything about trying to preserve mods in CMSF2. ?? Did I miss something? Link please. -
True enough. I actually forgot this is BS forum. With the AT systems available in BS I very rarely do this. I have found my self doing a lot more of shoot and scoot in CMBS. Armour stays alive longer when someone else finds targets for it and the armour pops up shoots and goes away - preferably to a different location.
-
I do that all the time with vehicles. Move them back and forth a short distance to target multiple things. Three is a practical limit 15s or so for each target and some movement time and there is your one minute turn...

Next Korean war is coming close...
A Canadian Cat replied to exsonic01's topic in General Discussion Forum
Oh for sure. The NK regime is just playing for time and looking for opportunities to put a wedge between the SK government and the US government. Both governments should avoid letting them. I don't see that changing. The issue I have with your prediction is that any time a US admin might think about being preemptive they have to think about the casualties the SK will suffer. I honestly don't see how it can be justified without a provocation from NK first. Of course that could happen because Kim has little to no regard for his people or anyone else's for that matter. I just don't see the US going unilaterally without some kind of provocation first. Granted what level of provocation might be needed could vary as time goes along. I honestly think the most likely path forward is for this stalemate to continue - possibly even for decades. -
Cool I didn't know you could do this either. Makes perfect sense. For Mortar and MG teams this might work too since moving small distances no longer requires tear down and redeploy. Have you tired it @TimUA?

Combat Mission Discord?
A Canadian Cat replied to YankeeSamurai's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
The Few Good Men site uses discord. Check out the Discord Chat on the right hand side of this page: http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/ I am personally not plugged into the discord group but you can get there from the above. -
Sorry, I meant the other way around. Driving slow will not increase your TC or crew's ability to hear enemy armour. I actually have no idea if the differing sound profile from tanks moving slow vs tanks moving fast makes a difference if they can be heard. Possibly worth testing out.

Hey, scoring is an allowable tool to balance the results out. I am sure people will have fun.
