  1. @WimO - Even the old hats run into difficulties and unexpected issues with the scripts. Keep strong buddy.
  2. The maps weren't complete from memory but this is going back years so I'd have to check.
  3. I still have all the files. But yes this lost support and my workload increased about half way through development.
  4. Slitherine's last video update said March 27th for CMBN on Steam.
  5. As per SLitherine's recent announcement CMBN comes to Steam end of March but the BP I'm working on is a separate release sometime after that.
  6. Your plan seems sound. Remember German MG teams can move and fire in semi deployment mode as well. I'll leave it at that.
  7. Take a look at my Carpiquet Campaign from years ago and feel free to tie it in if you wish. Or steal the maps. I've wanted to one day go back and shorten it a bit actually. Cut off some of the branching possibilities, remove the first mission that was a night recon that never really worked. Also probably just one big German counter attack from the 1SS on the night of 4th / 5th July, rather than multiple. https://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy/cm-battle-for-normandy-campaigns/the-lions-of-carpiquet/
  8. No idea what you could possibly be referring to here. Yeah this actually happened a few years ago <facepalm>...
  9. So... procurement drives the doctrine? Seems a bit back to front. I wonder how much of this could be down to a lack of experience in fighting a large scale ground war against an opponent that isn't a third world country? The scale would be so different to the last 20 years or so for western nations. There was an interesting statement in an article here earlier in the week about a possible China vs the West. Amongst other things it asked the question if we as a society are ready for mass casualty events as a war with China would likely lead be just that. Are we ready to see 200 sailors killed as a ship goes down in an naval fight off the shores of Taiwan? An Aircraft Carrier? What about ongoing ground battles where dozens or hundred of casualties are occurring daily?
  10. They changed that quite a while ago to a % increase as defined by the script. Also it's applied to the individual units not to the broad formation. So all the units in a battalion won't miss out due to one bad 'dice roll'.
  11. I don't understand people arguing for 'small Government'. Even the most fiscal conservative of Governments oversee budgets and regulatory frameworks that are the single biggest influence on any economy, despite what tripe they sell to their voting base. People seem to forget all the things Government's have to do behind the scenes just so they each individual can go about and live a normal life. Health, safety, education, sanitation, everything has a function for Government role - even if delivered privately. Or you can sum it up better with a Monty Python quote : Reg: All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us? PFJ Member: Brought peace? Reg: Oh, peace? SHUT UP! Back on topic. An interesting opinion piece on the recent history in the Middle East influencing foreign policy and defence decisions today around Russia. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/feb/20/iraq-war-confront-anniversary-russia-putin
  12. It is. The G41 was also added for lower quality formations. The details of what small arms go where was up to Steve and team. I just alerted the team to the issue. I'm unsure if the extent of the issue showing up in other formations/game families but if you have details post them here and I'll double check and report.
  13. Yeah, in my opinion it should common practice among the community to upload not only the .cam file but also the script and .btt files in a folder as well. That way if you leave the community your work can be updated down the line as needed. Pretty sure I put that into the Campaign Design doc. These community tools to break up a .cam file are great, if you want to play individual scenarios, but the lack of all the individual pieces at the other end still makes it a time slog to recreate the missing pieces and then put it all back together again.
  14. MG Joe's Bridge wasn't a stock release but a community scenario I made yonks ago. I added the MG prefix by default to let people know they needed to module, not thinking of other perceptions of how it would be viewed years later.
  15. Thanks for the compliment. Look at the "play/pause" button on the bottom right though.
  16. Grenadier Battalions with poor quality equipment were virtually identical to high quality units. Full of MG42's and STG44's. A problem when trying to recreate poor quality units from the static divisions. Also a few other surprises.
  17. Yes that is the JuJu UI mod. I know because I'm looking after it now. Unfortunately any update to the mod is on the backburner while I focus on BP2.
  18. Can't see much of a case for the Australian Army showing up in a 1970's Cold War gone hot title focused on central Europe. The one CM2 game where Australians may of shown up was CMSF and I think buried away in the lore BF came up with there was some mention of an Australian unit committed to the fictional invasion of Syria coming in from the Iraqi border between the US effort (ie Task Force Thunder and other units) and the British Forces. They may have been only Special Forces, can't remember fully as it's been a good few years since I delved into the material while updating the Dutch Campaign for CMSF2. 2008 would of been interesting time period to model an Australian contingent given the equipment mix. It's a real mix of US, UK and European kit, much of which was added to the game by the NATO module. The army had just switched over from Leopard 1's to M1A1 Abrams for it's main armoured force, but pulling the Leo's out of storage after a few months for a hot war isn't much of a stretch. Mix of Leo's and Abrams in the same tank formation? ASLAVs and M113's are IIRC in CM2 somewhere now so everything is 'there' model wise. Only really the Bushmaster, Carl Gustav and the F88 Austeyer are missing I think. Plus a whole bunch of programming. Actually probably could also add our Kiwi cousins as well given the similarities... All of the above is just from someone who is an Armchair General that's never worn a uniform and has no idea of what would be realistically possible (logistics!) but is just going by the rule of cool. Oh and a bit of national bias.
  19. Yes. You'll need to jump into the editor and adjust the files before fighting a follow on battle based on whatever house rules you and your opponent determine is appropriate. A number of club campaigns have come up with different systems in the past. All this is offering is a starting point to save the historical leg work and run around to kick start a campaign between two people who want to play out Utah Beach "their way" rather than via scenarios trying to replicate history. It's not one giant Axis .btt file but split up in the editor by regiment. So one for the 3/919 IR (the unlucky German sods stuck along the coastline), 1058 IR, the 6 FJR and 17 SS SSPzG Regt. Nothing stopping you from importing one other file into another, saving it and them importing it again into another to merge them all up if you wish. But be careful as issues may crop up in the editor with a force size that big. Talking easily 5,000+ soldiers in one file.
  20. Mapping takes time and urban maps even more so. I still bow down to @benpark's Berlin mapping effort for Fire and Rubble to this day. Luckily @Schrullenhaft was already working on a map of that lined up pretty much perfectly to what I was planning to tackle so a team effort amongst the betas got it across the line. A few things are quite funny about the Carentan layout that makes it difficult to map in the CM2 editor mostly related to 45 degree road limitations. But why the community hadn't tackled these popular engagements... I honestly don't know. Ste Marie du Mont... and I think a slightly older version of the map. Oops. What surprised me is the villages dotted around the landscape aren't necessarily as big as you would think once you've plotted all the buildings into the editor. Carentan is another matter. I see the others have already answered this but yes, basically just historically recreated units for how they looked mostly fixed on June 6th. These files are then imported into the editor so you can make your own custom scenarios with historical formations without the need to do your own historical research leg work. Also you can tweak them based on past engagements with your favourite MP opponent if you want to reflect losses in your previous games. Most of the maps will be modtagged with some form of custom objects. Actually the beach photos already show this off if you want to try and spot it. I do plan to add a 4ID and 70TB uniform files with the appropiate patches as part of this pack as it's not that hard to do. I'll post up the list of mod tags used so the community can go nuts if they want post-release. I remember those games fondly. Scale is a bit out of whack, like attacking Ste Come du Mont with one depleted squad. But they did have a strong focus on getting their maps right which is better than most other WW2 games out there. Briefly toyed with the idea of using top down screen shots from the game for a more detailed look at flashpoints for these bigger CM2 maps. There may also already be an easter egg or two buried away in the unit files. Actually my first ever scenario for CMBN was inspired by BiA: Earned in Blood mission... https://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy/cm-battles-for-normandy/three-patrol-action/
  21. I'm both laughing an cringing. After I'm guessing what was 24 hours in the air or stuck at airports only to be handed a Fosters on the other end... I can't think of a greater insult. Something my way that I can recommend would be a local rum... https://www.canefire.net/products/
  22. Case of Australian beer, roughly 16kg in weight for 24 bottles. Make it a decent craft beer about $60 AUD for the case. Check shipping to east coast of the USA... +$264 AUD by air and receive within 10 business days. Probably going to arrive warm and works out to be $13.50 for each bottle drunk. Ouch. Saying that, this is roughly the price of a pint in many pubs these days. I also don't drink beer so not the best experienced buyer for you.
  23. I've needed to create unit files for each of the regiments involved in the fighting including the various strong points along the beach. Realised these, coupled with the master maps is probably all the multiplayer crowd would need to tinker and create their own running series of linked battles over this time period rather than follow the prescribed scenarios. They'll have to work out house rules amongst themselves. Probably on a fraction of buyers will be interested but there is always the odd one out there. Big reason the BP won't creep that far north is the excellent community work he's put in over the years. The other is if you look at the base game release it really followed the exploits north of Utah Beach already so didn't want to tread over old ground. There is only a slight crossover with the Utah Breach map that showed up in a CMBN Road to Montebourg but this was more a generic beach map given at the time of CM2 v1.0 there was no map overlay function in the editor and map size limits were much smaller. Now we can sit there with photos and BIGOT maps and go for more detail and also much larger areas. There is another crossover in scenarios that will occur but that's a secret and I don't think players will mind given it's small and popular. As for that road, that's a small section of Purple Heart Lane. It's quite deceptive looking at the photos and maps just to see how long a road and open space it was for the 502nd PIR to get across. Everyone is going to hate my guts and another beta member who will remain nameless for the moment to protect his good standing in the community. No secret back doors to avoid the bridges. A fictional PzIV? There were no PzIV's in the 12SS PzGren Div in Normandy. Not 100% what you are asking here but the short answer anyway will be: Nope. Only what is currently available in the CMBN family formation and equipment wise will be included in the pack. Might as well get this out of the way as someone will realise this eventually. That also means a bit of proxying for the 17SS in terms of their StuGs. Sadly they won't be StuGIV's but StuGIII's as the former is not part of the CMBN vehicle roster. Battle Packs are purely scenarios and campaigns, they do not add in new units/formations/nations to the game family etc. And more importantly when is the next Ashes series on? Over your side of the world in 6 months or so? Update: Getting late here. Off to bed but see what I can answer in the coming days.
