DreDay got a reaction from wee in American vs. Sov..err Russian Infantry
That is an excellent point (much like the argument that our 4 tank Pls are better than Soviet 3 tank Pls for much the same reasons). Of course, the counter argument to this has always been - does it really matter when one of your squads is going to be fighting against an entire platoon of enemy infantry and APCs/IFVs? That's where the operational aspects of combat come in and tactical ones tend to take a second seat; that's why I was careful to preface my post by saying that comparing individual unit OOBs is not that productive outside of looking at their higher formations and associated role that they perform within that formation’s operational doctrine...

Likewise Tapio. It's always a pleasure to share my thoughts with a worthy match. Sorry for the "sir" gig... old habits die hard. You can call me Dre (not a Dr, but I do have an MBA)

Those are all great points sir. The AT guns can definitely still be a potent threat, espcially when facing less advanced and older armor (i.e. Ukranian Army). For instance, the first combat use of T-64BVs had occured in Trans-Dnestria region of Moldova in 1992. At that time a company of T-64s had attacked a key strategic bridge that was held by Moldovan forces. Two T-64s were completely destroyed and a couple more had suffered serious dammage and had to withdraw within the course of that battle. All of those losses were claimed by a battery (or less) of well deployed MT-12s... Yet I wonder if the results of that battle would have been even more decisive if the Moldovans were to deploy ATGMs in place of AT guns... I also wonder how long those MT-12 crews would have survived if they were to face more advanced tanks with better protection, advanced FC, and decent thermal sites...

DreDay got a reaction from frez13 in Which module would you like first?
Ok, I see what you mean. Those are fair points. So let me put it this way then - there is no chance in hell that US will fight Russia over Ukraine in a near future and there is no "f'in" way in hell that China would somehow get involved in such conflict; so you're right - Chinese involvement is even less feasible; but both scenarios (US or China) are completely unfeasible to begin with. Can we perhaps agree on that? If we can't, I am sorry - but that is as far as I am willing to debate politics on this forum. Cheers!

First of all, as my fellow countryman you will probably agree that there is absolutely no support in our society for engaging in a war against an enemy that does not pose a direct threat to us (at least on a same or higher level than Al Qaeda did in early 2000s). There would be even less support for engaging a strong opponent (albeit not nearly as strong as we are) like Russian Armed Forces over Ukraine (that most of our countrymen cannot even find on a map). However all of that is moot point due to our nuclear parity with the Russians and a mutual distraction principle. The last thing that any responsible American or Russian leader would want to do is to escalate such conflict to DEFCON 1 level. As I've said in quite a few other threads - CMBS provides a very interesting and challenging scenario that I am really looking forward to; but their premise (as far as direct US Military involvment is not really well grounded in reality - which is something that I am perfectly OK with btw).... so in that sense PRC involvement in such cisis is just as likely as US involent - which is to say that neither one is likely to happen; yet it is still fun and challenging to consider in a game like CMBS

DreDay got a reaction from A Canadian Cat in Changes to scout team and the assault command
Well there are multiple reasons for scout teams having 2-6 men in most modern armed forces. For one thing, it allows them to to be on watch duty 24/7 with (at least) one scout staying awake when the others rest... On top of that, you generally need at least 3 men to cover a 270 degree area for obeservation while moving.. plus you need extra men for overwatch, medical aid, extra ammo, RTO duty and a whole host of other tasks...Think about it this way - if you were assigned scout duty... would you rather do it alone or with a couple of buddies that you can trust your life with?
