  1. I can confirm that the release date will NOT be May 20.

What will happen is this (it's how these things always work here at Battlefront):

    1) all pre-order customers will receive an email that their downloads are enabled (make sure to whitelist sales@battlefront.com in your email program! If you entered your email incorrectly during the order process, you're screwed ;))

    2) one of the pre-order customers will ignore the friendly plea to NOT post on the forum that they are already downloading (this happens usually within 2 seconds after the emails go out), and will start a thread here saying something like "OMG OMG OMG I AM DOWNLOAD NOW!!!!"

    3) the official release announcement will go up on the front page a couple of hours later, and the pre-order offer will be removed, and replaced with the usual "Download Only", "Mail Only" and "Download&Mail" options.

The latter, btw, still include a very few Steelbooks (we may run out today, though). We're almost out (and the only reason we are not out yet is because a stock count revealed that we have received more Steelbooks than we had ordered, for no extra charge. Thank you Scanavo :))

So what timeframe are we looking at? ;) days or hours? ;)

  2. Again, let me start by saying I fully appreciate that Panthers can kill a Sherman at over 800 meters and I have absolutely no gripe about it. But heres my experience so far.

Playing as Germans on 'Closing the Gap'

Panthers sit on top of the German starting hill. Sherman hoves into view. Panther immediately engages and hits first time. It doesnt matter if the Panther is directly facing the Sherman or not. If it isnt, the Panther immediately slews through up to 90 degrees and fires a 1st Shot hit (in 90% of the engagements it also kills).

I have now played from the German side about 8 times and every time is the same, with exceptions below. As long as the Panther can see the middle of an enemy vehicle it hits it first time.

The exception to this seems to be hull down vehicles. In this case the Panther seems to miss low at about the point where the centre of the Sherman is. It will do this a couple of times and then finally hit.

Now, on the other hand, if I play the US side and hunt my M-10 into the trees they also get 1st shot hits at over 800 meters. Although they arent killing the Panthers (and I wouldnt really expect them to) but easily kill the Marders.

My conclusion is that something is wrong with the gunnery itself. Its either dialled up too far for crew experience or something else is affecting it. The range alone is cause for a raised eyebrow (only in the respect of immediate sighting and firing not the ability of the gun to kill), but when coupled with a moving target which is offset by a lot of degrees then it causes both my eyebrows to raise. Its not a game breaker or anything but it just feels wrong.

Vehicles on the move also seem too accurate to me, even at short ranges. A panther was moving perpendicular to 2 M10s at 400m. While travelling at fast speed it tracked and first round hit my M10s. I've seen instances such as this several times actually. And the game feels nothing like CMx1 when it comes to tank combat. Vehicles are that accurate. It feels a bit like CMSF actually. Was CMx1 so far off the mark or are these vehicles simply shooting and acquiring too well?

  3. They said they wanted to wait a couple of days to gather demo feedback for a perfect release. But there don't seem to be that many problems judging by the posts. So hopefully tonight? I would love to see some sort of announcement however. I've played all the scenarios from every side (yes, the tut as well) already :P

  4. Yeah, but the newer PC won't see me this week. So I checked the system requirements, found that in theory the old one matched each spec (contrary to what Schrullenhaft says ;) ) and tried it. Actually, the game runs fine - with shadows off. I never cared for detailed graphics anyway.

    Operating System: Windows XP/Vista/Win7 Check.

Processor: Pentium IV 1.8 GHz or equivalent speed AMD processor Barely. But: check

Video Card: GeForce 5200 or Radeon 9200 (32 Megabyte VRAM or better and must support 1024x768 or higher resolution) in OpenGL nowhere it mentions OpenGL 1.2, not even DX9. But it has 64MB and supports 1024x768 or higher. So: check!

Sound Card: DirectX 9 compatible Sound Card Haven't tested sound yet

System Memory: 256 Megabytes RAM hey! I've got more than twice of it! Check!

Hard Drive Space: 3.5 Gigabyte yes

Other Requirements: DVD Drive (not needed for download version)

The game does not work in a virtualized environment (virtual machine)

Then i suspect that the self casting shadows are part of an instruction set that is simply not compatible with your gfx card. Or rather, your gfx card can't make/doesn't know how to make use of this particular set of DX instructions.

  5. Dunno the age of that PC. But it still runs XP and I remember it ran on w98 not that long ago...

But hey, it is near the minimum specs ( http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage_bfc&Itemid=26&category_id=36&product_id=280 and actually it even runs with DX9. Still wouldn't play "To the Volga" on it. But apart from that it is the PC that runs CMBB fine - no graphics glitches. My newer PC in the other apartment has graphics glitches. Which made the old rig a keeper ;)

Outdated cards don't run all the DX instructions from newer DX version thát well. They are usually optimised for a specific set of DX instructions and no amount of patching is going to fix that (had the same issue with my 7900GTO which is orders of magnitude more powerful than yours). Simply put, that architecture/supported instruction set is outdated. Your best bet would be a new computer to be honest. Also, I wouldn't adhere to the minimum specs of anything as they are the "piss-poor-gaming-experience" minimum most of the time. All in all, i'd recommend a newer computer over anything else if you want to experience this game somewhat comfortably.

  6. I've got to admit the TCP/IP zealots are a hoot to read.

I have to admit that all the other fanboys and zealots are a hoot to read. Seriously, why do people have to piss on other people's opinions on this forum all the time? :') I wonder where this trend came from, cause it's friggin annoying and deconstructive if anything. Replies like the above add absolutely *nothing*.

  7. Demo, training scen, played as US vs AI, WEGO

D'led the demo from eprison and gamershell. Installed from both sources. Identical behaviour.

    Specs: Pentium 4, 1.8GHz, Nvidia GeForce2 MX, 64 MB.

    US side:

I only get floating icons for the tanks - and anything in the second floor. Triangles on upper screen edge only for anything with floating icons. I can only group select (shift/click + drag) units with floating icons.

Example: 4th plt HQ in the upper floor has a floating icon, MG besides it gets one. MG moves forward, leaving upper floor and floating icon vanishes.

And I don't see any inf in the open. I see the start of their movement path if they have any. But that's it.

    German side:

Hmmm.... Pretty sure I got a floating icon for a inf unit not in the upper floor.

No floating icons/triangles or crews for a gun and a MG. I see the weapon, I even see the gun recoil - but that's it.

    "Shadows off" solves the problem.

Uhm, this is a serious bug report? That pc is ancient by any standard, it's at least 10 years old :') I don't think thát kind of videocard is supported by the new engine anymore. It's what, a DX6 card?

Did you ever try to play SF on that rig? I suspect you'd see the same behaviour to be honest
