BodyBag reacted to Trooper117 in After the next 2 modules?
By the time CM3 comes out most of us will have kicked the bucket... not to mention the designers themselves.

Well, that didn't happen did it! How many MORE months of endless waiting to add to the YEARS that have already gone by?

Actually, Steve did:
"At the moment we're doing some last minute TO&E fixes. While making Rome to Victory I got into some retro revisions which had a ripple effect. Almost done with it.
These last minute fixes do delay things, but worth it IMHO. I'm still thinking that we can have them out before March (yes, of 2019). "

Also Brens/BARs/Bredas firing single shots instead of bursts at ranges over 150m or so.

The main one, for me, is perfectly fine troops leaving cover to stand in the open an action spot or two away when fired upon by Arty (and in my case a machine gun). This was a result of tweaking some other code in the unit AI to handle some other item that I don't remember.

Yeah, I'm a little puzzled at lack of news and lack of patch. I mean, I have spent plenty of time managing SW projects, so crap happens. But we have been told over and over that its soon, right around the corner, etc. for quite some time.

I've not touched Normandy for over 18 months now because of a broken game in a stock campaign = broken campaign.
Got to be honest I would never have purchased the rest of the Normandy family if I'd known it would take this long to get the issues fixed. I've played half a campaign of the CF and MG modules as a consequence. Considering the cost of these games it begs some serious questions about value!

Another view is to flip this around and ask why wouldn't they have been working on the patch this whole time?
It's been 2 years and 3 months now since they broke some pretty fundamental parts of their own game -- broken to the point that many people can barely enjoy the typical stock scenario. And not just one title broken, but all of them.
When the issues with v4 were first brought to light, I would have never believed that it'd still be almost literally years before we saw them fixed.
Perhaps Battlefront needs to start actually paying more testers and content creators, in order to get things moving along, instead of relying on the generosity of so many volunteers?
I've defended Battlefront and heaped praise on the game many times over the past 4 to 5 years, but at some point a customer's patience and good will just gets used up.
"Niche market" is no excuse for a fix to the underlying game engine to have taken this long.

Arty I could live without but in the game I was playing troops jumped out of a trench when being fired on by machine guns - and they were not broken or panicking. Machine guns in general is something that is hard to play a CM game without.

When a patch is 2 years in the making I start to question their ability to deliver, regardless of how long they take.

This is a bit ironic since we're waiting for a patch to fix problems introduced in a patch...
There's a middle ground between not testing things at all and then on the other hand testing things for more than two years.
Also, nobody is demanding they release a flawed patch. But maybe releasing the patch that's has been done for a while and already is in CMSF2 would be nice.

BodyBag reacted to Bootie in New CMMODS IV
Hello Gentlemen
I had hoped to delay the announcement of this until the new CMMODS site was 100% finished and all the mods uploaded however due to circumstances I am pulling the announcement forward to... well now.
After recent discussions between GreenAsJade and Battlefront it has been decided to relocate the CMMODSIII site to fall under the umbrella of The Few Good Men where The Proving Grounds and The Scenario Depot already reside.
To this end work has begun on moving the modifications currently hosted at CMMODSIII to their new home at CMMODS IV. As you can imagine this is a major job and will take a few weeks. CMMODSIII will remain open until the full transfer has taken place so for now I request that no new mods be uploaded to CMMODSIII.
Within the next few days CMMODS IV will be opening the requests section for folk interested in becoming Creators (formerly Authors) and at this time the new upload process will be implemented. This will be under the Instructions section of the new website but I will post in this thread to keep you all in the loop.
A few points about the new website worth mentioning... all files will now be held in cloud storage so even a catastrophic website crash will not impact any loss of modifications. All files from the old CMMODSIII site will be relisted and recently with the help of @Erwin I have acquired approx. just shy of 300GB of modifications with quite a few that slipped through the net between the Repository and CMMODSIII transfer over 3 years ago. So as you can imagine Im going to be very busy over the next few weeks.
Please do not subscribe to the new CMMODS IV just yet or you will be inundated with copious amounts of uploads... I think I uploaded over 100 today... you really don't want that many notification emails dropping in your inbox anytime soon!
In closing I want to thank Martin for all his sterling work over the years keeping CMMODS running and it's an honour to pick up the gauntlet where he left off.
Without further ado, here is the new site, still a work in progress but getting their quickly.

I wonder what's going on in the Battlefront headquarters...

Not in mine. Jumping out of perfectly good trenches with arty falling all around is a game breaker.

Steve, can I please ask about how are we (royal) on track for the WWII V4 patches releases? Tanks in advance!

IL-2 is actually on par with CM2 in pricing. And they have periodic sales that significantly lowers the barrier to entry. A full game like BoM costs $70. And each game is part of a larger game that combines as a huge environment of maps, planes, and other content. You can also buy a few individual planes and campaigns. Its just like the BFC game and module system. In fact, its exactly like it. The main difference is that with CM2, the games can never interact. In IL-2, the games all share the common engine in real-time and can all planes, scenarios, and maps can operate together when purchased. Another key part is that patches add significant features and functions. And they are all backward compatible. New content comes out almost monthly. I have always hoped that CM2 would be more like IL-2.
This is the kind of comment that makes me realize that people on this forum don't really look around at how other games operate and what is really available out there. Its a pretty insular world on this forum.

No, not really. Just like with Combat Mission, modern flight sim titles are not cheap to develop. If you want to see insane prices, go look at DCS.

BodyBag reacted to Thewood1 in Update on Engine 4 patches
Every program ever in existence has had bugs on release. But the main point here is that when you take at worst years, and at best months to get patches out, some of your customers hope you have developed a solid testing plan.
