  1. If you look in the archive you will find lively discussions on the problems people had playing the game. Many simply abandoned it and went back to other games like the Combat Misson games.
  2. You can play the Germans in Kursk. But only the Allies in Caen. That's a real bummer and takes away from the game. Only way you can play the Germans in Caen is in Quick Missions or Simple Mission builder. Can't do it in Campaign Mode. The paper manual is pretty skimpy. They include a pdf manual which is more detailed.
  3. Only bugs I've found is an occasional crash to desktop while a mission is loading, and one that was present in the first version of the mission generator not giving you the mission you asked for. Even if I delete all previous missions, when I ask for an armored mission, I end up with infantry. The "fix" or I should say workaround, is to ONLY use the "Simple Editor" and custom-build a mission the way you want it. That is fast and easy to do. The other problem with the mission generator is the number of units you are allocated or allowed to select is VERY skimpy. That was a complaint from the past that is still present. Another problem still present is the game lags VERY badly in some scenarios when playing a campaign. I'm surprised they haven't fixed that, since it was a complaint by MANY people when the game was first released that resulted in a lot of folks just deleting the game from their comps until someone fixed the problem. Even folks with high-powered computers had this problem. Very possibly that was what has killed sales of this game and why they are bundling the Caen upgrade as a package deal. So I end up playing only "Simple Editor" scenarios I create myself. What it actually boils down to is I am only using 1/3rd of the features of the game. Fortunately, the "Simple Editor" works good and is pretty enjoyable.
  4. Another item for the wishlist...I would like to see the included campaigns playable as EITHER side. Caen turned out to be a bit disappointing as you can only play as the Allies.
  5. I remember this bug now. Still not fixed http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=91463&highlight=mission+generator+only+gives+infantry+units
  6. When using mission generator...I choose tank battalion for my command and tank battalion for my AI opponenet, but when the game starts I get an infantry unit with NO tanks. I deleted all the previous gnerated missions but that doesn't help. All I get every time I go to play a Mission Generator game is infantry.
  7. And I had ASKED for links to these "elsewheres", as Google and Yahoo searches provide NOTHING. I was told to look in the archives. Does that sound like a game actively being played? WHERE are these "active posters" talking about this game?? They certainly aren't in this forum. Most of the POSTS in this forum are from back in 2010 or earlier and they are about patches released a long time ago. And for the last and final time...I DON'T CARE about user "improvements". I am more interested in DEVELOPER improvements. If no more are forthcoming FROM THE DEVELOPER, then this game is vaporware.
  8. I just bought the game a few days ago. I know the basics. I'm not looking for user mods. And that's not what this thread is about. I am asking for input from users, if there are any who still visit this forum, about what they would like to see in the next patch or upgrade from the game makers. If they haven't turned this game into vaporware.
  9. Yes really. Of the five new threads on this forum, three of them are mine, including this one. The other two threads are a complaint about the Steam version and another one wondering if this game is worth buying. The very few links I found were all broken. So I don't know where you are looking, but having to look in the archives to find things is a pretty good indicator that this game is on the way OUT. As to games of this kind or ANY computer games, they are on the way out. Major PC game companies have been switching over to X-Box and other cartridge games for quite a while. A good example is Electronic Arts. They used to make all kinds of computer games. Not any more. Almost everything is for game systems now. A company has to be able to make a profit to stay in business. The only computer games that are selling are first person and role playing games. As to people playing and modding this game all over the world...maybe. They are certainly keeping those mods to themselves. Doing a Google search brings up NOTHING for mods, other than the five mods on the Battlefront website. So these worldwide mod-makers must be some kind of underground cult. Many folks buy a game to play it...not hack into it and be creative. I couldn't care less about the internal workings or creating things. I WOULD pay for an upgrade like the three items I mentioned in my first post. Game companies stay in business by making a profit. Users making mods doens't put any money in thier pockets. So lets try and steer this thread BACK ON TOPIC and post whatever changes or improvements you would like to see in the game, rather than turning this into a DIY thread.
  10. Well after buying the Kursk-Caen bundle, I now find out that there are little if any mods available and Battlefront seems more interested in the Korea version. So this game is probably vaporware and nothing more is going to be released for it. What you see is what you get.
  11. Well I went through pretty much all your threads. The few download URLs are broken. I suspect there isn't much interest in this game any more. If you do a Google search nothing comes up for mods for it. That's probably why it is being sold as a "bundle" with Caen. They are clearing the shelves of old stock. The Battlefront mods has a grand total of 5 mods for download. I have a feeling this game is DOA. You can see there are no new posts from players on the Battlefront forum except for mine and another guy that is having problems with the Steam version. Too bad. This game had a lot of promise once they fixed the bugs in it.
  12. I am not ignoring them. I did a search but didn't find any of them except the few listed at the Battlefront location.
  13. Where are these mods located at? Quite honestly, I am not much interested in, nor do I have the time for, DIY mods.
  14. I hope Battlefront/1C hasn't decided to end support and upgrades to this game. Posts on this forum seem to be kinda sparse compared to when the game first came out. So I thought I might start a wishlist for future upgrades or patches. First let me say I am VERY happy to see the King Tiger tank in the game. It's what actually made me decide to buy the game. Unfortunately, my other favorite is the Panzerjäger Tiger Ausf. B or Jagdtiger and that is still missing. I sure would like to see them in the next patch or upgrade. They were used on both the Eastern and Western front, although there were only 88 of them built. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdtiger Second request would be for some elite infantry. AFAIK infantry are just listed as that...infantry. While the Grossdeutshland was pretty much an entire elite unit, there were many other elite units fielded gy the Germans (and allies). Two examples for the Germans are the Waffen-SS and Fallschirmjager (paratroops). Both were known as tough opponents and of a higher level of training and ability than the standard infantry soldier. Heck, the Waffen-SS even had their own version of paratroops...the SS Fallschirmjager Battalion 600. Allied paratroops and Special Forces units (Rangers, Commandos, etc) could also be included. Third request would be a logical one...a new version depicting the Battle of the Bulge. Then we would be able to make use of the more "modern" tanks included in the game. Another possibility would be the war in the Mediterranean. That one always seems to get overlooked.
  15. As you said, I disabled realtime protection temporarily for the full install of both games. After that I zipped the update file and AVG doesn't pick it up any more. 1C should be shot with a King Tiger tank for making an icon a folder. It can't get more confusing than that. BTW...I REALLY like the game now that it's installed and I figured everything out.
  16. Okay...I sorted out where the files are. Battlefront uses an ICON instead of a standard Windows Folder for the flile location. And Caen installs directly into the Kursk folder. No idea why the installer asks if you want it located somewhere else. It won't work unless it's in the Kursk folder. AVG is STILL saying the updater is a virus. Maybe I can zip that executeable so that AVG doesn't keep nagging me about it.
  17. Okay, I did a re-install. It appears you are right Sneaksie. The icon is a folder. That's a first for me. Not sure that's such a great idea, though. But at least I know where the files are. Now I have another question....do I let Battle for Caen install at it's default location? I notice the installer asks you if you want to install it somewhere else. And AVG is STILL picking up the updater as a virus.
  18. Nope. There were NO files in the folder at all except for an executeable. I did find them by right clicking on the Battle for Caen icon on the desktop and then using "find the executeable" to locate them. But what's really crazy is they all showed up in the same location where the executable is!!!! So I can't locate them via Windows Explorer but I can locate them by right-clicking on the executeable. Not only that, but AVG keeps picking up the updater as a virus. Here is where I explain in detail what's not working... http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=101647 Right now I have everything uninstalled. I may just install Battle for Kursk and see if I can get that working. I will have to delete the updater executeable because AVG keeps poppoing up a warning that it's a virus.
  19. I TRIED to install Theatre of War Kursk today. As it was installing AVG picked up the updater as a virus described as Win32/DH unknown virus. Even after I told AVG to ignore it, it disabled the updater. Not a big deal, as I had all the current patches downloaded. But something Battlefront needs to look into. After I got Kursk installed and patched and Caen installed, I tried to install the hotfix for Caen. When I went to where Battle for Caen was SUPPOSED to be installed, the only thing there was the executeable. I tried a reboot, but still no files to overwrite in the Battle for Caen folder. No files in the Battle for Kursk folder either. So I had to uninstall everything and start over. When I uninstalled, the only license they asked me for was the one for Battle for Caen. The Battle for Kursk didn't even show up in the Windows uninstaller. Someone at Battlefront needs to get their poop together with this game. I never had this kind of problem previously.
  20. I downloaded the file but when I went to put it in the game folder the only file in the game folder was the executeable for the game. Where is the rest of the game installed at????? There are no "existing files".
  21. Thanks Phil. I'm hoping all the problems we discussed in the past are now fixed. That's the main reson I've been staying away from the game. I'm a bit surprised that there aren't any new posts about the game. I am still playing John Tiller's Talonsoft Campaign Series and that game is REAL old and their forum is still active.
  22. Do the Pz. VIB “Tiger II” tank, “Brummbar” assault gun, Jagdpanzer 38t “Hetzer”, “Elefant” and “Jagdpanther” tank destroyers only work in multiplayer? The reason I bought the game was to use the Tiger II and the other new vehicles and I don't do online play.
  23. Thanks for that heads-up. I'll be playing the demo until my game arrives by mail
