  1. Gents - super game...really am enjoying it. Have played 2 games thus far. Human vs. AI. Settings at Difficulty 0%/Experience +0. FOW on, Production Delay on, Unit Limits on. First game played Central. Basic strategy (German) was to rush to Brittany, cut off Channel ports, and force UK to land in Brittany and Atlantic ports, which was fairly easy to contain. Eastern front was basically defensive for Germans---all war effort went into Western Front. Then, turn south and take Paris etc... Austria-Hungary focused on pushing into Russia...Ottoman was a rush to Suez and then defensive. Second game played Entente. Basic strategy was hold the western line, 2 rows of infantry entrenched, then build up arty and roll eastward. Not easy - lots of casualties. Russia held defensively in north front, but very aggresive against Austria-Hungary...pushing throught the mountains one hill after another. Ended up taking Vienna before Berlin. Used lots of UK infantry in mid-east---pushed back Ottoman and drove into Turkey. Balkans ended up loking like a UN zone...I had Serbian, Montenegrian, French, Italian, and one Portuguese unit all holding the line against Austria in the north and Bulgaria in the east...overall that was a very tough ToW. Spent lots on diplomacy and ended up getting Portugal and Norway. Both games ended in 1916 so I never got to see the US enter the war:mad: Love the game...good AI, excellent game play, super sounds & units & manual. Looking forward to first patch and of course WWII version. Next I plan to replay but this time with Difficulty and Experience levels up one level. OR, replay with same settings I just played with but with FOW off. Lastly - did not spend anything on tanks, zepps, bombers, etc...fairly useless in this game. But, subs & destroyers---depending on what side you are playing, you`d better buy plenty of one or the other. And, a final note, the arty game play is super---I really like how you`ve left it up to the user to fire as many, or as few rounds per turn... Cheers... Canada1
  2. Hubert - thanks for the .02 mods, to you and your team. Now, I can spend the next 4 days (Canada Day + Friday + the weekend) playing my favorite game... Not sure if this option already exists (does it, if so, let me know where to find it), but I've often thought the game would be more challenging if the BOTH the human difficult increased AND the AI automatically gained experience as the game progressed. For example, regardless if playing Axis or Allied, human starts game at beginner w/ AI experience set at '0'. By mid 42, human difficulty automatically gets bumped to 'Intermediate' and AI goes to '+1' experience. By mid 44, AI difficulty automaitically gets bumped to 'Advanced' and AI goes to '+2' experience. This would reflect a more historic balance (making it more difficult for world domination) and therefore consistently challenging the human player by making the game more difficult as game progresses, and AI more advanced as game progresses. I'd make this an option---not everyone would like it of course--- Cheers... Canada1
  3. Hi: Playing 1939 World at War campaign. Have not tried other campaigns (yet). Did not adjust any properties or values of the AA unit, just purchased and use the AA 'as is'. Is there a way an AA unit can be adjusted to 'multiple defence' mode? Cheers... Canada1
  4. Hubert and company; Been playing the game w/ first patch. Love the mods. Purchased German AA's, placed in France. Playing against AI. Each time an allied air unit (be it air, tactical or strategic, from UK land or Carrier) attacked a German unit (in France), the AA would defend against the incoming air attack---each time. Before the patch, the AA would defend once per AA unit per turn, regardless of number of allies air attacks on same target, but now the AA defends each and every time against each and every allied air unit attack, regardless if the attack is directly on the AA unit or against adjacent unit(s). Example: 2 allied air units, 2 allied tactical air units and 2 allied bombers attack Brest from UK. I have a German Corp unit placed there. Beside that unit is the German AA. If all allied air units attack in a given turn, using example above, that equals 8 airstrikes as the strategic's get 2X attack. My AA defends 8X...once against each attack in that given turn. Is this a bug? Works out well for the Axis player if not a bug, as the AA costs about 100+ production points or so, and over time the unit gets strengthened...wipes out about 1/3 of incoming allied air units per turn...not a bad investment! Cheers... Canada1
  5. Good approach to the Japanese play, xwormwood---sounds like an interesting strategy. All waiting for the patch! ALL WAITING FOR THE PATCH!!! Yes, it will be a classic. I think it will be a 'game changer' (pun intended) in the industry. Fortunately, I don't pay too much attention Armchair General---despite their 95% rating, doesn't hold much water, considering the source. Hubert: I think the best ratings come from tried and tested (and passionate!) players...in my opinion (as a fairly passionate and experienced player), SC series is third best WWII game I've played, behind PG II as #1 and SSI's Ardennes/Korsun series as #2. I'd say with the SC patch (possibly) or SC III (likely), the SC series has a good chance of moving up to #2, in my view, and according to my personal ranking. And, I've played most of them. But, that's just the opinion of a Canadian Keep up the excellent work. Cheers... Canada1
  6. ...good comments, constuctive points of view, most of which I hope will be incorporated into first patch. I can only imagine what the game will be like after patch 1 is ready...(Hubert et al, we are waiting:). I haven't played a full game yet, played Axis up to mid-43 a varying settings/sides, and am playing Allied right now. Agree the IT is Ethiopia is a tough nut, but where else would UK units gain battle experience that early in the war? Also, I'm of the opinion that playing w/ FOW off is not a bad way to play the game---sure, you can see your AI opponent, but at least the AI (who is, presumably, less intelligent than human opponent gets the advantage of seeing you as well, and plays a bit smarter...just a thought. I have to say China is well scripted---I've read many good and bad points on China, but in terms of difficulty and really needing to think about your strategy/next move, the whole China thing play s quite well---it is tough, and the entire game should be tough. Lastly, KM subs in the Atlantic were tough---someone's advice to use carriers is good advice---they provide your tactical advantage and will ultimately clear the shipping lanes by mid-43. Good hunting (for subs, that is . Carriers are key in this game (RN in Atlantic, JN in Pacific and of course USN in Pacific & Atlantic). Cheers... Caanda1
  7. Thanks for the feedback, gents. Cheers... Canada1
  8. Good stuff on taking Hawaii. I'd be interested to know what other strategy you employed as the Japanese player re: China/Burma, etc... Did you sacrifice westward expansion to conquor the east (ie Hawaii)? What levels were you playing at? And, last question, where did you download the nice unit icons? Cheers... Canada1
  9. To all; Anyone playing Axis w/Rockets? How do you find them? What's your strategy when using them? I haven't tried them yet, but would be interested in hearing from the user community the good:)/bad:(/ugly:eek: about rockets... Cheers... Canada1
  10. OK - good stuff...and thanks... Cheers... Canada1
  11. Hello - yes, N. Africa is very difficult when playing as Axis. Especially after UK fortifies tile behind El Alamein. My preferred approach? I ignore N. Africa all together...not worth it. Use you production points to beef up for Barbarossa...keep Italian navy close to home, and place troops on mountainaous terrain in Sicily. Cheers... Canada1
  12. Hubert- Great game---really enjoying this. I read in a few threads your reference to first patch. Any idea when? Keep up the great work, to you and your team. Cheers... Canada1
  13. Hi- Its a slug fest in China... Foochow is not too hard, believe it or not...CVs, BBs to soften things up, then your amphib at start of game plus the corp near Foochow should do the trick in 1 or 2 turns... But, it is a slug fest all the way through those mountains, valleys, streams, jungles..and of, course, Chinese! Cheers... Canada1
  14. Suggestion: Provide a 'What's New' section for veteran SC players so we can get straight to the new features/rules without wading through all the beginner/repetitive info. Aside from that---love the game---great job! Already played a couple games up to mid-42, then I restart with new mod/advanced mod adjustments to (attempt to!) get the perfect balance between Axis human and Allied AI. I think what you did w/ China is very good---a difficult nut to crack! Cheers... Canada1
  15. Good input---really enjoyed your comments---I have not made it that far in the game yet, though I am thinking of starting a new game with a new strategy (ie: as Axis player, don't kill yourself in China). Haven't tried as Allied player yet. I always found playing the Allies as enjoyable as the Axis---playing the Axis, you are always pushing the envellope; playing the Allies, you are tying to close the envellope! Cheers... Canada1
