  1. Yep that's what it looks like. Hope this can be fixed easily, it's pretty serious :P. It's a real shame for this mission too, because that row of houses is the perfect spot to cover an assault on the milk factory from. I think I'll go play the US campaign and hold off on this one till the bug gets squashed.

  2. Are you already including plotting - hypothetical - movement waypoints for the AFV / gun in question to the action square(s) you are interested in, setting a facing there and then (with the waypoint active) checking LOF with the target command from there? AFAIU, the results one gets are specific to the height, status etc of the vehicle (and to the stance - prone, kneeling, etc - of foot units?) involved?

Though it is tedious to drag that created waypoint around to check the LOS/LOF from multiple locations! Makes me wish for ... but that's another thread I guess.

Yep I already do that. The main problem for me is that quite often the LOS a position is supposed to give me (from checking beforehand), does not match up with what my unit can actually see once it gets there. Or the other way around, which is just as bad (and has gotten me killed plenty of times).

I hope BFC are able to do something to correct this somehow, because it's one of the main areas where CMx1 is superior.

  3. Do any of you do this kind of thing for a living (being a grog that is)? It's obvious that there are some very knowledgeable people on here.

I haven't finished university yet (saving up cash for last 2 years), and haven't declared my major... I wanted to go with history at first, but after seeing many of my friends who majored in liberal arts type stuff unable to find a job in their field, I've had second thoughts... but maybe there is something out there if I look hard enough.

  4. This continues to sometimes confound me. For infantry it seems easier, mostly I think because even if not all of your squad spots one particular spot, at least a few will (which often results in the rest of the team moving over to shoot at said target)

But for vehicles (and AT guns), I'm still having trouble trying to determine what their LOS is. It can make trying to set up a tank in a good protected firing position difficult. Any tips?

  5. You mean hunt? The current "Hunt" in the game is move to contact.

There have been several threads in the past asking for CMx1 hunt, but I don't think BFC has replied yet (could be wrong):

(not posting this to discourage posting on this topic, the more it gets brought to BFC's attention the more likely it is to get fixed).

This and the the inability to select waypoints by clicking on their lines (other than the unit you have selected) are the two areas that need to get fixed before CMx2 will have a superior interface all around to its older predecessors. My guess is it must be harder to define the parameters for when to stop and when to keep moving because the game is more complex. But I would really like to see it in the game by the time Bagration comes out.

Some people seem to not care at all that it's not in the game, which is surprising to me because I found it a very useful order.

It's unfortunate, but now you have to use some guesswork and give timed stops along the route of your tank. Or use move-to-contact with an armor cover arc (definitely a good option now that we have armor cover arcs). That won't get it to stop for AT guns though I don't think, and once it sees one tank, it's stopped for the rest of the turn.

  6. I mean being able to select other waypoints by clicking on their lines without having to go back and find and select its unit first (so basically what was in CMx1). I posted a thread about it a while back and Steve (I think... whoever is behind the battlefront.com username) said it was a possibility so that's why I brought it up. Being able to have waypoints visible at all times (not just when a unit is selected), would be a nice feature to go with this.

It might seem minor, but it's one of the big reasons CMx2 is a lot more time consuming to play IMO. (at least with my style of play)

  7. I think the price of the games is very very reasonable. It's true that there is less content in each itiration than say, with CMBB at release, but this is probably explained by everything by its nature being more time consuming to do in CMx2 (more detailed models etc.)

$55 is standard fare for a new PC game, though we're already seeing many titles being released at ~$60 and it's still going up. This is not only "AAA" releases at all either, some wargames are very expensive at release (see Gary Grisgby's War in the East or the Command Ops games)

Personally I'd rather see the price of the games, content and the size of the dev team all doubled. But maybe that's a bit selfish ;) (I'm not rich by any means, but I do have very few expenses) I was until just recently very broke though so I feel their pain :(.

If they can't afford the newer titles just have your friends buy CMBB. It's only $25 and easily in the top 3 of best computer wargame ever. I still play it a lot and it doesn't feel dated at all to me.

  8. I just bought this and would like to play a few of the scenarios before everyone has gone through them all (hopefully hasn't happened yet).

I am very busy during the week (Monday-Thursday) probably only able to send out one turn total during that period, but the other three days I can play at minimum 3 turns a day. If this arrangement works for you shoot me a PM or just email me a game straightaway: icyscythe <AT> gmail <DOT> com.

(in a few weeks though it will be a bit different with Tuesday-Thursday being the days I can play a lot and the rest of the week booked)
