  1. Mikey, with all due respect that analogy doesn't help me at all. If I were asking to pay to install the AC in the old car, yeah I'd be insane - My question is whether or not it comes as standard a few years later. If we cross back to compare it to the games, people who buy the game and then the upgrade are essentially buying a brand new car that has no AC, then waiting a few months for AC to be released and paying to have it installed. Meanwhile, I am asking if I can ignore all that, wait for AC to become standard, and then just buy the car with it installed. Anyway all of that isn't important - I am simply asking if there will be a price increase for the game if it comes with 2.0 included. If that is the case, that is perfectly fine with me and would make sense. Though if for some reason waiting will result in the game being the same price as it is the day on release, and you get the 2.0 features at no extra cost - Well it'll be a simple decision for someone like me who doesn't have the time to play a full CM game before the next one is released. Please people - I know it might seem like I'm being anti-BF, and that it's like a red rag to a bull on these forums, but try to remember I am just one person who is confunsed and trying to get a simple answer. I am not speaking negatively - I just want to know if I can save some money, and time, by waiting before picking up my copies. Not to mention being in the EU I've read about the unfortunate issue with regards to shipping - So a wait might result in saving some more money there. Yes. I know it sounds strange to some, but I don't play CM exclusively and between other games, the wife, and responsibilities - I simply wouldn't have time to play all these games in full anyway. If I'd save money by getting them as pre-orders or on the day of release then I would probably choose that option and just leave them for when I get the chance to play. However if waiting means I save money and time spent trying to play all of them at once..Then it's a no brainer.
  2. Get your Kiwi pal to say "six" or "this" (or anything that sounds similar) then when you hear Aussies say the same word, you will notice the difference. It's almost as if the letter I is replaced by U with certain words. The other infamous phrase is "fish and chips" (fush n chups). Kanonier Reichmann's method is equally accurate.
  3. I was fine up to this point, now I'm confused. I understand that Fortress Italy will be coming as 2.0 - I see this as a taste test for the 2.0 features. After this at some point we can upgrade CMBN with the 2.0 features. Awesome, sounds great. But from what I'm gathering from the quoted text is that CMBN will be upgraded to 2.0 (as default on purchase) a few months after 2.0 is out? If that is correct, does this mean CMBN's price tag will be increased to reflect the new features? For example, it currently costs $45 (well 55 minus the saving), and let's just say the upgrade costs $10. Someone who buys the game today has to pay $55 for the game + upgrade. But in a few months time, when 2.0 is applied for new customers, will those customers pay more or less than $55? I'm fairly sure I am wrong somewhere along the line, and please correct me if that's the case. But to me it's currently sounding like we'll be paying for the upgrade simply to have it a few months before those who have waited before buying.
  4. ...Some say that he sucks the moisture from ducks, and that he has a full size tattoo of his face, on his face... (Couldn't help myself..)
  5. Thanks for missing the point - I'm not trying to tell BF to do with their own game. If they decided to include swearing or do the whole over-the-top blood&gore I would simply not let kids see it. I am just presenting an opinion, trying to explain why someone might not want swearing in a video game which could be played either with children present, or by children themselves. What exactly makes it an "adult game" though? Aside from the fact it would require a mature level of patience simply to get interested in the subject and then master the controls. Kids are taught about war in school, are they not? What is worse, reading about it, the whole thing (concentration camps and all...) and using your imagination or playing a video game which doesn't deal with blood and guts or the rest of the unnecessarily nasty stuff, and instead focuses on tactics? Mate...We don't even have an R18 rating for video games - This is one of the biggest problems with Australian video gaming, it's been a heated debate for quite some time now. That and the price gouging...But that's another story... The reason why so many games seem to be only given an MA15+ rating is because we have nothing higher. My opinion is that they are so well publicised that banning them would cause too much of an uproar, so they simply give it an MA15+ and be done with it. This is why so many kids are playing games they probably shouldn't. Recently Mortal Kombat - A game which has been fine up until the latest version, was banned, nothing has changed except for an upgrade in graphics but it was deemed inappropriate. That being said, you're right - We do seem a bit touchy when it comes to sex scenes - The Witcher 2 has been edited for the Australian audience so that the sex involved is not presented as a "reward" and is instead more or less forced onto the player....Try making sense out of that! We also seem to not agree with drug references. Fallout 3 was edited for Aus. to remove the drug morphine because it's a real drug and was replaced by (Can't remember, something imaginative though) nevermind the fact it wasn't a constantly used or even necessary item in-game. Half a year later, another game, Velvet Assassin was allowed through even though morphine was used as the drug of choice to perform some special abilities...One was heavily advertised, the other barely heard of. Nobody said that? Wow way to blow something out of proportion. Neither the OP or anyone who has agreed with the no swearing for kids idea, has suggested that BF are responsible nor that they should remove such a feature for the sake of the children. Simply putting forward reasons for why it's a good thing BFC don't bother with swearing. It's already been mentioned that a mod will be made, so there's really no reason to be worried mate, you'll get your ****ing swearing.
  6. Sorry mate, was just an assumption - I've not known many parents who think swearing is okay for children to hear. (By the way, I actually feel rather young hearing that people here have grand-children..Thanks ) True, but people screaming is heard almost daily in the playground. Kids scream when they injure themselves, and it sounds much more serious when a child screams than it does when these pixultruppen get smacked with a mortar round or are riddled with bullets. Of course falling over probably isn't as painful as being shot... As for the shots/explosions, while I agree it's not necessarily a "nice" sound to hear while they are innocent, I don't personally think that battle sounds are an issue for children's ears. It's not going to give them nightmares if they have no clue as to what the context is. It's just pixels on a screen firing brightly coloured lines at eachother. Also they are common noises/sounds they might hear when parents watch a movie or a show, many kids movies also feature explosions or silly accidents which have loud noises. Even the news these days have a lot more stories that feature gun shots and explosions. Swearing on the other hand, should not be a common sound a young and impressionable mind hears. If they slowly bled out in agony, spurting blood from holes in their body and writhing around in pain, I'd try to avoid my child seeing it - But the way BF models death isn't exactly gory. They simply stop shooting, and glow red. I want to play this with my kids too, when they grow up I hope they share an interest and want to play it themselves. I think they can understand that a game depicting violence (nowhere near as visually explicit compared to others) isn't real. CM is clearly a game, no matter how realistic it is in terms of TO&E or penetration values etc.. It's just a game, it's played with a keyboard and mouse. But there is no fake or make believe swearing. Ahhh, we are talking about different age groups, there's the issue - I'm talking about 2-7...Unless a kid has a bad upbringing, I've not heard of kids of that age swearing plenty. Anyway, I don't mean to single you out - I understand that people have different opinions. I was just pointing out that some people, such as myself, might not have an issue with what is shown in CM, but would have a problem if their troops swore because it can't be said that it's just pretend. I realise that playing the game themselves would expose them to the words more frequently - But whether they are playing it themselves, or just wandering about nearby doesn't matter if they have to hear it because the sounds are coming through the speakers. That's not it at all - I don't care if they sit on my lap and take control themselves, but I DO care if they hear swearing regardless of who is playing and doing the killing. I don't think a kid playing a game will get a thirst for blood and go out to kill someone themselves (despite some over-the-top christian lobby groups who think this is a concern) but it's a fact that kids repeat things they hear, and I don't want my kids swearing as often as a solider would. Okay, this I can't really argue with We do have the cowboy-style hats...
  7. I take it you don't have children? Some people who play CM do, and if they want to play CM while the kids are in the house, it's better to not have cursing playing through their speakers. As for "blowing people to pieces" - Show me a video where this happens in any CM game... Unless I missed something, it doesn't show this level of detail, it's just not required. Personally, I don't have a problem with playing this game while a child is about, it's not showing that much which can damage a child's mind in the long term - So they see a flaming Sherman every now and then, no harm done, some loud explosions here and there, again no harm done. Most kids actually make louder noises than those 356mm naval guns. If they start hearing words they shouldn't, then that's doing them harm. I'm glad to hear I won't have to be playing with headphones on. I'm Australian, our gun laws are even more strict than most of Europe....Next theory?
  8. Sadly, this was just him being polite... After he said that, fans decided to start donating money in hopes that, with enough, Nathan Fillion would indeed buy the rights and get Firefly back to the fans. His comments regarding the donations: ā€œItā€™s beautiful to dream of more Firefly, but PLEASE DONā€™T SEND ANY MONEY. Just keep being great Browncoats, which you are!ā€ What followed was a (I've been told) crap movie using the Firefly world as it's backdrop. This movie was "blessed" by Joss Whedon, but it was fan-made and not for profit (money being disbursed between a number of charities). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1593655/ This link explains it all a bit better, but as a fellow fan I felt it was my duty to share this sad news. http://www.unstoppablesignals.com/hnbf That was awesome!! Thanks for the link. By chance do you know if the rest of the show is worth watching? Oh yeah, must stay on topic... So, where's the demo?
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong - But wasn't this the title of one of the missions which came with the demo? It doesn't show up in my scenario list and I've got it patched to 1.02 also. Just speculating, but if you had installed the demo, then the full game without uninstalling the demo, perhaps it merged the scenarios folder? If I recall the single missions for the demo didn't run with the full game. http://battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=95428
  10. Is this the page you are viewing? http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage_bfc&Itemid=26&category_id=36&product_id=280 It seems to still be open - Limited editions still available too. Not sure if the price has changed but there's still a $5 discount so one would assume nothing has changed.
  11. Mel Gibson is not an Australian. I'm tired of people, especially other Aussies, lumping him in with the rest of us simply because he moved here when he was a teenager and acted in a few Aussie movies. He is American. However, if this was more irony - Nicely done.
  12. Ahh thought that might be the case, thanks for clearing it up mate. I understand the expenses involved with printing the manuals, it's still very refreshing to see a developer put so much time/effort into making a decent manual at all - So I wasn't going to complain if it's only for the CE buyers Just wanted to know whether i should get the physical game or just digital download once i'm able to. Will stop filling the topic with questions now - Best of luck with the release and thanks in advance for the great game.
  13. ...Okay, now i'm confused. Steve said the manual will remain in print after you run out of the boxes (steelbooks?) now you say it's only a part of the collectors edition? Does that mean there will be separate manuals? If so, what will the difference be? Not in colour? Less pages? I wouldn't mind if it's no longer in colour but it would seem a bit strange to give other customers a manual with sections missing.
  14. Thank you, kind sir. Will be waiting for May and get my order in as soon as i can - Do you think there's any chance that all 4 games (well, game + 3 modules) will be offered in another form of packaging once all are released? I guess there wouldn't be much point considering most people would buy them all at the time of release but just thought i'd ask. I noticed that too, also the steelbook's interactive online viewer doesn't seem to show anything - Though that might be my browser not behaving...?
  15. Am i right in assuming that this will mean the manual (whether in steel box or just the standard dvd case) will only be available for pre-orders? I'm leaving the country at the start of May and, living all the way in Australia at the moment, i wouldn't trust postal services to deliver this before i leave - However i was hoping to be able to get a manual when i do eventually get around to buying this.
  16. It's a double-edged sword (or bayonet) unfortunately. While it may help the game reach the general public, and gain some more $$$ for the devs, it also results in a lot of people impulsively buying it thinking it will be another CoH/Red Alert. Many of these people play it and become frustrated by the difficulty or learning curve - Which then results in them coming here (or 1C forums) to whine about the game, saying it's broken and suggesting it be made more like standard arcade-RTS titles. Then possibly convincing their friends and other people that it is not worth buying for X, Y, Z reason. I understand people like Steam because it keeps everything in one place, has various sales, and for mainstream games i agree it is quite useful. But personally i don't think serious wargames benefit enough from being sold via Steam as the general public tend to be impulse buyers and not actual fans of the genre. A similar issue arose with Arma2, a lot of people who bought it via Steam then came to the forum with complaints that it was too hard because they thought it would be just another FPS. Even a couple of people i know foolishly bought it without trying a demo or reading reviews, purely because it was on Steam and it "looked cool". Of course i won't deny that some people were glad to have found it and might not have done so without it being available on Steam, but i still think the negative responses outweighed the positive. Just my 2c. But as Rosseau stated, it will be up to 1C, and from what i've seen lately they don't mind using Steam so chances are it will be available there too.
  17. To my knowledge, the Kursk manual does not contain all the information needed, as the GUI/Engine didn't change much between ToW 2 and Kursk there was little reason to re-write the whole manual. So i suggest you take a look at the online copy of the "original" manual, it can be found here on the BF site, which should help you understand the buttons/commands a bit more. Link: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_flippingbook&book_id=11 This current issue you are having can be solved by clicking the button on the bottom left corner of the orders section. It should look like a soldier standing with an arrow pointing up (some see it as a house..). When selected, a little red line will appear across the arrow. This instructs the unit to only move when and where you order him to. Keep in mind, this means when you order the unit to attack an enemy, if they lose LOS they will stop attacking and will not pursue it. You will need to either disable the "don't move" order, or manually move the unit closer. There is also the button to the right of this which will stop/start the unit from attacking at will. Oh and.. SPGs are self-propelled guns... (sorry, couldn't help myself) If you are talking about infantry, yes ordering them around can get rather frustrating. They tend to be quite quick to die, but considering most missions only require the player to use infantry to take trenches or capture a town, it's not that hard to work your tactics around vehicles and only use infantry to take and hold a position. Once in cover they do quite well. People have argued about whether or not it's realistic how quick and easy they die, personally i've never been that concerned. I know at times i find myself claiming the computer has cheated But at the end of the day, i am aware how fragile a human is, these are the pre-body armour days, and a couple of (or even just one) well placed bullets is all it takes to end a life. Because of this, i make sure never to move all infantry at once or deploy them in the same location and always remember to keep a reserve for any take/hold objectives. As for vehicles, well it's a case of hit or miss (pun intended). I've played a mission in which i lost more than 50% of my vehicles in the opening minutes and then restarted and with a slightly different approach, only lost one or two vehicles. I guess it largely depends on knowing what you are facing. For example, the first mission as Germany (assaulting from the hill, i believe?) I tried to rush my tanks up over the hill and lost quite a few to the huge line of AT defense facing the hill. Next time i played i only used 2-3 tanks with ample HE rounds and just continued to fire at the suspected AT positions. After a few minutes i had lost one tank but disabled a few of their guns and it was safer to move the rest of the vehicles closer and in range. I have never, once, in all my hours of playing Kursk, lost a mortar team. (well.. to be fair, i have on occasion sent them out into enemy fire as a distraction once they run out of rounds...) More often than not i never even move them from the starting position, which is generally on the safeĀ® side of a hill. I can't recall any missions where the mortar teams start off within enemy sight and are at risk of dying in the opening minutes. The only other way they are lost is either to air units, or enemy mortar teams. Is it possible the enemy got lucky with a few mortar rounds? You seem to be exaggerating the issue, i have of course played missions where you start off under attack, but the missons all have a briefing screen, and in here they inform you of the current situation and (usually) what to expect, so it shouldn't come as a surprise. This is a game remember, personally i'm glad that the action tends to kick off instantly and lasts throughout the mission. It would be quite dull to start a mission and have to sit through an hour of text-based mission planning and map inspecting. Again, that's what the briefing screen is for. Just imagine you are reading the briefing while sitting atop your tank and riding to the battleground. One last thing, the title of this thread is, other than being wrong, quite unnecessary. You could of simply said you are new to the game and then asked for help. Claiming the game is broken and then admitting you are new to the game, makes little sense. Anyway, i hope this helps you to realise the game is far from broken. My only other suggestion would be, practice practice practice...
  18. I ordered the game on Sep 14th and live on the other side of the world (Aus)...So i'm not sure how you still haven't received your copy yet. 1. I got my copy at the start of the week (Mon 27th) As for when it was shipped, an email was sent out the day after i ordered it (15th) from USPS "click-n-ship" stating that it had been sent out. It also provided a tracking number. I should point out though, according to the tracking number, it's still in "Hampden, ME".... 2. Well i ordered digital+mail - But i doubt that has much of an effect on when it's shipped. 2. (3..) I can't answer as i didn't pre-order NATO. Sorry mate.
  19. Actually i'm pretty tempted to do that myself to be honest - But with my pathetic Aussie d/l speeds i'd be better off getting the demo first so i've got something to occupy myself with while i wait for the full-game to download.
  20. Good to see ToW3 has been officially announced now. As much as i love the WW2 setting, it'll be good to see a game focusing on Korea.
  21. Great news! Wasn't expecting the full game for another couple of weeks Now i've just got to try survive the day so i can get home and dive into the demo....
  22. That's understandable, but as others have said it will (hopefully..) be made functional in time - A year is a bit of an exaggeration (again..hopefully). That being said, i would say i'd still be playing it in a years time as i still play ToW 1/2 occasionally. I'm still not really sure how this problem came about, my understanding was they used the same engine as ToW 2 Africa, which never had these fps issues. Though if i recall, the battles didn't have quite as many units on screen at once either. Also just a reminder, the Mission Generator and Simple Editor are separate programs. The Mission Generator only allows you to throw together a generic battle, while the Simple Editor gives you alot more freedom.
  23. While i agree it should be fixed, the issues in regards to 'slide show effects' are only present in the campaign. They seem to be related to the insane amount of units on screen in the missions. I too have abandonned the campaign until it's sorted. You can still get alot of enjoyment out of the game even without looking at the campaign. Take a quick look at the "simple editor" program (located in your MissionEditor folder within the Kursk directory). You can design your own missions, with specific units/location/weather/support, all very simply (as the name suggests) and i've not had any issues with the frame rates when doing this. I'm not too sure on the bugs that everyone else keep posting about, so i won't comment there - But personally i've still been enjoying this game thoroughly despite the campaign being unplayable. EDIT - Oh and to stay on topic, i'd be interested to see more ToW games but as for the setting i'm not picky, so long as it stays focused on WWII it will have my attention.
