  1. I'm another happy downloader. I had no problems with downloading it from the Battlefront website. I was very happy with the ease of installation.
  2. In a bogged down Russia for example yes it becomes difficult to commit a unit to being a veteran unit, that constantly gets reinforced. It's all about trade offs and long term goals in the end. Having one super exp. panzer unit that can plow through a city is a huge aid I've discovered, and of course tac. bombers too.
  3. Looking forward to the patch, will it effect pre-existing PBEM games???
  4. I like deciding early on which units will be my vets. I coddle them and give them the easy fights, pit them against HQs and pit land units against air units. This makes sure that they won't lose units and be able to Elite Reinforce ASAP. I then reinforce to 11 after a major win, like the surrender France for example with Axis. After this I try not to allow them to hit 9 before they get two stars and then get them up to 12. Once they're at twelve the exp. accrues a lot easier. Then in late game once your tech is up you've an unstoppable unit. For some units at the start of the game you're already given an exp. bonus, these are easy ones to appoint as your pre-destined long term vets.
  5. As soon as the US navy activates if you're anywhere near FdF its carriers will make mince meat of you. Best to get that navy home and avoid the UK navy on the way. Keep the carrier on fighter mode in case you encounter the UK carriers. Either wait to send a corps to FdF right before its port is close to 5mpp again, that way you can transport out next turn, or even amphib. out and consider South Africa, if you're brave . Or send your most damaged corps out of France and then dismantle it once you get the gold. This makes for a 100mpp for 400+ mpp trade of, which is still a win. I've taken S. America against the AI late in the game and it's nice to climb your way through S. America and knock on America's back door through Mexico. I've usually used my Afrika corps to do this after they've made their way down to S. Africa, then easy amphib. over or if Argentina has been wooed I might transport over at that point. I'd say the S. America gambit is more of a coup de grace move on the Allies crippling them of a few mpps out of Brazil and other S. American countries as opposed to a viable early game crippling strategy...but yes it is fun.
  6. Seamonkey I'm currently in my first PBEM game ever and I know that the AI isn't a great example but I have tried a quick Barb on the expert AI immediately after France fell. I was extremely please with the results as it caught the Soviets completely of guard and I advanced all the way to the front steps of Moscow before getting bogged down by Soviet tech. superior tanks and awesome air cover.
  7. I've been thinking lately about the armistice offered to Germany after the taking of Paris and eventual surrender of France. Generally, I accept this armistice as it gets the French "problem" out of the way and let's me get on with other invasions. Once I did not accept the armistice in an AI game on expert just to see the results. Turns out the combined French and British navy spanked the Italians in the Med. and it just took me longer to wrap up France. My invasions in North Africa went no where as I had no naval dominance of the Mediterranean so I couldn't force ultimate French surrender which I suppose would be the main goal here. Other than the potential gain of unit experience does anyone on here employ the Armistice decline option and complete conquering of France as a viable German strategy? And if so do you think the return on investment of time and units is worth it in comparison to a Sealion of Britain or kicking off Operation Barbarossa early?
  8. Where exactly are PBEM saved files or for that matter any saved files dumped? They don't seem to be anywhere in my Battlefront file. Can anyone shed some light on this?
  9. I'm an intermediate player looking for some PBEM. I've never PBEMed before but I'm good for a turn or two per day. I've played SC2 extensively and I recently finished GC on intermediate as Axis. I'd love to play Axis as I'm most experienced with that power and I'd prefer to play the '39 campaign. PM me if you're interested.
  10. I was playing on intermediate with no xp boost for the AI. So unless this is a feature of the intermediate lvl, then I think I may have witnessed a bug. Eventually, I took Australia despite that cheating AI. In fact I went ahead and took the US for good measure and scored a decisive victory despite super US transport landing maneuvers. Someone may want to look into this "potential" bug. Seamonkey...I enjoyed the sarcasm
  11. I'm in the middle of a great game as the Axis. In the Pacific Japan has dominated and only in late '43 has the US geared up to push them back. While fighting in Australia the US landed troops to stop the Japanese advancement. I was holding on to Sydney but the Allies held the port of Sydney. On the AI's turn I noticed the US pass three troop units thru the port. The port however was damaged down to a "3." The units were using transport ships and not amphibious assault vehicles. So on a port with a 3 rating the US in one term was able to unload three units from transport ships. For me this is only possible if a port has a 5 or higher rating. I'm wondering if there is some tech that allows this to happen or if this is an AI bug. Anyone else seen this?
  12. Buying one chit of diplomacy for the USSR as Germany won't help you much in the long run. It only represents a 5% chance each turn of potentially swinging them Axis a small percentage. The largest swing I've ever seen in percentage was from Sweden to Axis by 39% (If I recall correctly). However, usually these swings are small and incremental around like 10%. I think that the swing also has something to do with the country you're trying to swing. Countries like Sweden, Spain, Finland, and the Vichy countries are already leaning Axis so I think that they're program to respond more enthusiastically to Axis diplomacy. I doubt that the USSR would have a massive swing. It would take you a lot of chits to slow the USSR down and a lot of resources. In my opinion better spent fighting the USSR.
