  5. I seem to have my name listed in the allied player list? Been away on holiday so was not aware of any of this! To be honest I do not have any interest playing as the Russians and have never fought with their forces since the release of cmbb. I would however like to fight on the German side if this is possible? But if your still stuck for player numbers I can give it a go as a Red if needs be.

  7. Reading further into my current book, the use of flamers became pretty common from July 44 onwards. The British forces in particular seem to develop hard hitting individual attacks using Infantry with supporting Crocodiles or Wasps backed up by 72 gun 25Pdr batteries and Mmg long range fire...even on individual enemy platoon positions! Sounds like they were trying to terrify enemy formations.
  8. I can be another foot soldier for pbem fights if you need any more. i really like the idea of cm battles affecting a bigger picture. But no problem if I have missed the boat already. I can usually get one or two turns a day done.
  9. I really thought there would be some great campaigns materialise for the Italian theatre but after, what, 2years? None have, either from BFC or the clever creators on here. Brit or American drive up Sicily, Salerno, Cassino..both town and monastery, Anzio,all famous engagements involving forces from many nations and yet nothing. Seems a real shame really. Is there just not the market for it? I bet many of us would stump up for a proper campaign disc but perhaps the Italian theatre is more niche for numbers.
  10. Just read an action that would make a great scenario using the vehicle pack. The Welsh division decided to launch a revenge raid (they had lost almost a company to a heavy SS counterattack a few days earlier) on the Le Bon Repos crossroads using an infantry battalion backed up by Crocodiles and supported by Mmg units and divisional artillery assets. It was executed with élan and the Germans 277th?holding it, suffered heavily for low Welsh loss. Despite the success, the welsh oddly withdrew after, so it was literally a punitive raid
  11. for the fighting in Normandy I wouldn't say you should know the enemys setup zones (and I always think its a bit poor to target them in a pbem unless your the attacker in a set-piece assault) but places like crossroads, towns or likely assembly areas were usually all pre-targeted before advances, as well as the expected enemy MLR. Most of the arguments presented here seem to be that the arty might wipe out half the other sides forces (unlikely in the terrain and if dug in well) but then is it right that you lose half your attacking forces as the enemy is not supressed or pre-bombarded enough to give you any chance of attacking success? German forces are tough sods to break anyway and especially so if he's got full squads and MG/ATG/mortar nests all the time that are at full strength and no supression (something that was probably pretty rare in Normandy). The allies relied hugely on overwhelming firepower to make any kind of gain and it often tipped the balance for an offensive or defensive success. I just find the allies paltry Arty assets un-realistic in the majority of scenarios, likewise lack of TRP's. But my real surprise (or maybe just bad luck with a recent few pbems) was the delays to any fireplans, as I don't remember them being that lengthy a while back....though my memory is rubbish ;-)
  12. Forgive me if this has been brought up before, but has the response time to arty requests been delayed in later versions of Cmbn? Seems that way to me in the last few scenarios I have fought. It's probably a scen designers choice but the allied arty never seems flexible, quick enough or plentiful enough in the majority of them. As a result, the poor tommies get outgunned and cut to bits in most fights as they have lost their natural strongest arm during ww2...the arty! I read countless accounts of the fighting in Normandy via a constant flow of company, battalion/divisional accounts and they regularly praise the guns for being constantly on call and short request times, aka 2 minutes! They regularly had divisional assets assigned in addition to their own mortar units as well as extra batteries or group assets for any kind of advance as well as very heavy DF fire. Yet in Cm I am constantly at a halt waiting for 10+ mins even with a Foo, upto 18mins if another officer calling it in. And the most support I get will be one battery of bigger guns or a couple of mortar batteries. There's never scope for proper battery barrages, creeping barrages etc. even on bigger set piece assaults. Just seems a bit weak to me for this very important aspect. Without such great arty support I think the allied forces would have had many more tactical disasters befall them on the field.
  13. Hi kohlenklau, can you explain to the un-initiated like me, what's involved in these PzC campaigns you set up? Do you do the PzC side and give orders out to the battle commanders who fight it out in cmrt? I really like the idea of battles that have an influence on a campaign or vice versa.

  15. actually I would like 2 player campaigns, that's whats really missing from the cmx2 series, like we had in the early CM1. Hadnt realised Kangaroos were in, are they in the vehicle pack? (which I own..ooops).
  16. I voted for more campaigns but would also like to see yet more special vehicles like Wasps! And Maultiers? (The mobile rocket launcher half tracks, kangaroos etc.

  18. this is a great scenario, a challenging recon style attack, I really enjoyed it and provided an ongoing AAR to the creator for testing. Trying to remember but think I got a tactical victory.

  21. Just another thought, could you not put 2 or 3 bunkers up against each other and then earth bank/submerge them to simulate the larger Merville bunkers?
  22. From memory Jon, the book contains maps and is full of eye witness accounts so gives good info on dispositions. It mentions individual mg positions, not necessarily in the bunkers that they had to flank through woods etc. plus it was just a riveting read! The day the Devils dropped in sounds familiar but that could also be the Pegasus bridge op. Must remember to check when I'm home again.
  23. Definitely worth dropping ordnance on afvs. As well as the chance to KO the TC, it will button him or rattle the crew and often destroy or damage the tanks radio and optics. I know as I've had it happen to me several times!
