Ordered mine April 1st, never received email at all, but had post office card this morning through letter box to pick up parcel from post office. Customs had nabbed it and I was charged another £15 to get it out of post office. Turned out to be an expensive game (im in UK)

Just a query really but seeing as we get the game download to start off with when buying CMFB (download and hard copy), is there any need to put $55 on the air mail packaging? Couldn't you put say $10 on the packaging, the difference in cost between the download only and the download with hard copy?  No offence meant, was just wondering that's all :)

    Mark

Same here. Had to pay the post office another £15.76 to collect the game. £7.16 customs charge and £8 post office rip off fee. OOPS, I meant to say handling fee

It has been discussed to death on these forums in the past and it is a chance you need to take if you want a hard copy. All but one of the games I've bought from BF had incurred a customs charge. I usually wait until I want three or four games/modules as you save on postage and only get hit with the handling fee once. Pre orders with limited edition items can be the exception if you already have everything else.

Unless you can get some kind person in the US to post it to instead of direct from BF then we are stuck with the extra $22 or so on top of the purchase price.

Depends on how you want the game. I personally prefer a hard goods copy as I am old fashioned. Or is that just old? Also my internet speeds are poor at the best of times and slower than an asthmatic snail the rest of the time.

At least I know I am supporting two businesses with every purchase. Make me feel good inside. Not. ;)

  2. Hi !

I hope Battlefront does not plan any Marines or NATO forces module.

I would not buy them, yes they have different tools but it would still feel the same (Ukraine, Summer, West vs. Russia).

Also, it would feel kind of "cheap" do do a Marines/NATO module again, its most likely much less work because they already have the stuff from the Shock Force modules.

What would be cool would be Separatist Module with lots of new scenarios and a winter/autumn landscape.

Or a Crimea module about a fictional recapture attempt by the Ukraine military.

What do you think about that ?

    I hope they do.

Most of the things you are looking for can be achieved with the existing game. No module required. Somebody will probably mod the ground textures and make scenarios.

I would be looking for something more than that if I was to spend money on the product. Especially with the cost of shipping to Europe and import fees. Yes I know I can D/L the modules but what is the point of a nice limited edition case if you have nothing nice to put in it. Normandy, Italy etc.

What is it you expect when the conflict setting is Ukraine and the story behind that setting? West v Russia or Polar Bears v Penguins?

Unless I'm reading a different manual then it's West v Russia. Polar Bears are hibernating just now, interesting premise though. :P

I want my Marines and Nato Forces now, now, now!!!!! ;)

As I said, start a poll.

  3. Sorry whats your problem joebloggs, did you already realize that a internet forum is about people posting their opinions and discussing them ?

Anyway, i think a module does not need new units necessarily, i would be more interested in a Winter Module with 20 new scenarios then in a US Marines Module.

     Isn't that what we're doing?

You seem to be the one with problem by deciding that you should get what you want at the expense of others.

Scenarios are available for free thanks to the talented scenario designers. You won't need to buy this.

Extra units and content usually are not free. You will need to buy this.

I'm sure BF have a plan (a bit like the Cylons) and part of that plan will be to release modules that will appeal to the majority to sell as many as possible. No chance of my Ninja's. :P

Lets face facts. European Nato units will probably be used as they are nearest to the region and are already conducting large scale exercises in Poland in case the unthinkable becomes a reality. Also the US Marines are the only force capable of launching an (unsupported by any other nation) attack from the sea. Bear in mind that Nato is a rather large organisation so it would be good to see some new nations. (Aussie barbeque mod anyone? :) )

As most people on here crave reality it is quite possible we will see these modules. I could be wrong. I don't know what is planned. Might be the North Koreans for all I know.

Personally, I don't care who does the fighting as long as I'm not just buying a rehash of units from the base game and a couple of scenarios.

    Why not start a poll?

"No plan survives contact with the next turn button"

  4. I personally dont care about the Marines or other NATO countries (except for Poland).

And yes, i said that, i would say it would be "cheap" to again go with a Marines Module a British Module and a NATO Module.

Just something new, not the same stuff we already had in shock force.

Just because your not interested doesn't mean others aren't.

    Wow, really ? :o

    Never thought about that...

You're absolutely correct. Sod everybody else. BF, please only make modules that appeal to individuals.

Personally I want a Ninja or Wizard of Oz Flying Monkey module before any stupid Nato troops come along and spoil things.

  5. Good lord what a pathetic ill informed rant.  I take away only one thing from this  Any idea to have this community more involved in the game development process is fundamentally flawed in that it does not take into account the immaturity and ignorance of this community for even trivial hiccups in process.

You really like to prove people right.

"No plan survives contact with the next turn button"

  6. Yup, and that's something we will keep in mind next time. However, I know the numbers and, based on what happened, it's clear to me that the preorder people alone would have run into problems. So it's compounding, but not the cause.

A clarification (for the millionth time) is that it isn't our servers. It is the same server farm that provides downloads for Amazon and countless other companies. Therefore, we have no control over what goes on EXCEPT waiting for the image to be populated around the globe before allowing *anybody* to download.

Not what happened, obviously. Unless you think we are either moronic or uncaring.

And you are only one of the usual complainers. So it's a universe that is balanced.

Oddly enough, condescending attitudes are in the eye of the beholder. Take your post for example.

    Steve

    Hey Steve,

My post was not aimed at you so why do you feel the need to reply and belittle your paying customers? You know, the people who keep you in business. My post was a reply to Sburke's ill informed post. A lot of people had issues with how this turned out.

All you ever get on here is if you don't like it then go away. No one can complain or reply to the forum mouth pieces you seem to support so much. I was actually criticising another poster for their smug attitude.

Any complaints I have had are mainly aimed at the people on these forums who think your company can do no wrong and apparently you are now one of them. If you want to take people's money then you need to be prepared for criticism if they are unhappy.

It wasn't my fault this went so wrong yesterday.

I buy your games because I like them and like to support your company. Just check out my last order for this and other stuff. If you no longer want my business then please let me know.

From the email I received: ATTENTION! We are offering these early downloads exclusively to

pre-order customers as a reward for your trust and loyalty.

Obviously loyalty is a one way street in your eyes.

Perhaps you should include a no complaints clause in you licencing agreement.

Anyway, off to try out the game to see if it's as good as you think it is. ;)

  7. so here is the deal - and I am not quoting to not single anyone out, this is just a general perspective

    1. BF has told pre orders that they are getting early access and they should not announce it as it simply causes a flood on the servers (this goes back a long way before their current service)

    2. The forum goes nuts with F5 monkeys refreshing as if having the game today versus tomorrow is somehow going to fundamentally change our lives

    3. BF has a cloud service that takes time for the installer to be distributed to the cloud servic e to make the cloud actually function as intended.

    4. The pre orders that get the email immediately announce they are downloading

5 the non pre orders start complaining about how their lives are being ruined and they should have the game now!!!

    6. Chris announces fine, they are opening it up

    7.  Everyone starts downloading and as was probably predictable it causes issues.

8 It is BFs fault for announcing late

    9. It is BF's fault for announcing early

C'mon guys, lighten up and chill a little bit.  The game is released, you'll be playing it soon enough and yeah you are damn funny to listen to.

    1. NO, the problems were magnified because they released it to non pre orders too soon.

    2. No logic in this statement because the problem would still be there if everybody waited until tomorrow unless the server issue was

fixed. In which case this should have in place before announcing release to the world. Maybe we should have drawn lots. Somebody has to

    start downloading.

    3. BF's server wasn't ready to cope.

    4. Point 1 applies.

    5. Despite the fact that pre orders should have been allowed at least a 24 hour window, the non pre orders have paid their money as well

and are entitled to be annoyed.

    6. Thing obviously were not fine.

    7. Be better prepared. BF knew how many pre orders there were. What did they expect to happen? Again, point 1 applies.

    8. It's somebody's fault.

    9. See point 8.

You obviously have had the game and these issue didn't apply to you. This is the second post I am aware of were you think

it is funny. What exactly is funny? I know what is funny to me. It is that you are the only one of the usual suspects who

has jumped to BF's defence so far. There are usually so many more ready to hop on the bandwagon.

People are entitled to be annoyed when they have waited for hours on a download to complete only for it to constantly fail without the condescending attitude of some people on these forums.

I finally have the download after 15 hours from initial attempt. Off to work now. Hilarious.

"No plan survives contact with the next turn button"

  8. Sorry but does anyone else appreciate the humor of "give it to us now! give it to us now!" followed by "Oh damn this download speed sucks"

    Are we there yet?

No, but I find this amusing.

ATTENTION! We are offering these early downloads exclusively to

pre-order customers as a reward for your trust and loyalty. In your

best interest, please do not tell anyone else about it, or the

download servers may be flooded with a lot of new customers, robbing

you of your ability to download the game quickly.

We didn't need to tell anybody about it as BF did it for us approximately 1 Hr after the emails were sent out.

"No plan survives contact with the next turn button"

  9. the servers are just getting hammered

Then why did BF release the game to the general masses so shortly after the pre order link went live?

I'm pretty sure that not every one who pre ordered was sitting by their PC. They didn't really gain anything in the long run.

There should have been at least a 24 hour window to avoid all this.

    Live and learn.

I suppose you have the game? Any good?

"No plan survives contact with the next turn button"

  10. i hope they stopped taking digital orders for a while to clear the backlog. kind of feel the pre order people like me got hosed. and it's not getting better for me

I know how you feel. 96% I was so close. No cigar.

I feel as if I have put my boxer shorts on back to front and touched my toes with this pre order.

  11. Edited post. Found the answer here

We do NOT recommend using Download Managers! Download managers are often not able to cope with the dynamic nature of the cloud network environment. Use a browser to download instead. We recommend using the following browsers: Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer on the PC, and Safari on the Mac.

Still pretty bad considering the size of the file.

Not everybody has super fast broadband and the $27 delivery + possible extra VAT/Duty/Post Office "admin" fees makes

downloading the only option for a lot of people.

  12. Hi,

Would have been nice to get a response from BF to my question here.

I suppose the question has been answered in the other thread (rant). Pity a marching band and flag waver couldn't make it, I was enjoying seeing it descend into its usual format. ;)

Looking forward to MG and my $5 V2 cd. By supporting BF I'm helping to support them and reduce the UK deficit with the customs charges. Gives me a sense of well being at this holiday time. I like my hard goods in my hands (oh er missus !!!) so no downloads. :P

  13. Hi,

    As the thread says.

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the V2 upgrade and the upcoming CMBN modules. A few threads with different opinions.

Will the next module (MG?) upgrade to V2 automatically or do you still need to buy the V2 upgrade separately?

I'm sure I read somewhere that you would need the V2 upgrade to play the new modules which indicated to me that it would not be included in the new modules and would be a separate purchase.

I've already bought the V2 upgrade but I would have waited if it is going to be included in the MG module for "free".

Just looking for some clarity without conjecture. :)

Apologies if I have missed this info somewhere obvious.

    Cheers

  14. Hi,

Did anybody ever make cd case inserts for the British Forces and Nato modules?

I've tried but they turned out terrible (crap) using the images from BF. No good a photoshoppy stuff. Bit of a cut and paste type of guy. :o

Just wondering as I was going to try to make the modules all look alike. Quite anal I know. :D

    Many cheers
