ratdeath reacted to The_Capt in How do you beat soviet mission 3?
Heh, you guys were warned. The Soviet campaign is not to be taken on lightly. It was designed to be brutally realistic. If a player can pull “fun” out of it (and they have), well good on them. I think one has to be a special masochist to really enjoy some of these fights, but they are extremely realistic. We pulled straight from Soviet and US doctrines, and period plans. Eirterfeld is straight out of a staff wargame from back in the day. We knew the CM crowd was not “casual” to begin with so catering to the upper end of challenge was a design decision early on.
I saw one video of someone actually completing the Soviet campaign, respect. So if you did not enjoy it, well that was kinda expected. The US campaign is much more forgiving. The NTC one is pretty kind as well. The Soviet one is basically the CM version of Punishment mode, especially March or Die. We knew this when we built and tested them. Trust me, we dialled them back off historical difficulty. Soviet tactical forces did not get a lot of time and space to plan, So if Div or Regt Recce failed, and by the halfway point of a fight they would, then lead tactical units - who by this point are 2nd ech - were going to be driving into a lot of fights that look like this one.
S’ok to hate the Soviet Campaign…it can take it.

Yeah my CMBN opponent surrendered his axis defenders and the scores are fine, no issues.

I am trying to motivate them with Vodka! They need a liquid morale boost!
@BFCElvis it is safe to surrender the game and my opponent gets the correct CM score?

You should have A Scen Design AAR PDF Book.pdf in the Manuals folder.
Simple test missions are fun to do and you buy formations that you can easily chop down to a platoon and/or any size in between. Can also add single teams/vehicles to the formations.

Nope that is not it at all.....
We are not talking about the once you get to the Community page: https://www.battlefront.com/community We are talking about navigating to that page from the home page.
Once you zoom in enough that top level menu goes away:
Normally the hamburger menu should show the menu contents but on your site it does not:

Quick reminder to my fellow CMRT players, you can’t save a game and return to it later. So for the German defender with lots of fortifications and freedom to make their own defense setup. This can take awhile. So if you need a break, dinners ready, baby’s crying, etc, either leave the game running or alt-tab to minimize the game.
Also completely ignore any tourney files that show up in your saved games & PBEM list. These will not get sent to your opponent. Only play the ones under PBEM ++ in Progress list.

I'm calling this one done now.
I've created a wee handbook to go with the scenarios.
@Bootie would you be able to do the honours and upload to TSDIII please? I managed to lock myself out of my account and currently trying to reset my password...
DONE - got back in and uploaded.
Everything you need is in the zip file. There is a website blurb, accompanying website image then the zip file with the scenarios and the accompanying PDF.

I think you have some app (installed by default "bloatware") on your laptop that overrides the shortcuts for Combat Mission. Probably something that takes up space/resources anyway. I have a ThinkPad (for work) and a Razer (for CM), no problem with the shortcuts in game.

BFC -> Slitherine -> Steam!
Steam 🚫 Slitherine (Steam) 🚫 BFC!
That's my understanding of how it works, a purchase via BFC gives you all three versions, a purchase via Slitherine also gives you Steam and a purchase on Steam only gives you the Steam version!
And until we get a native Debian stable version of CM all other versions are inferior j/k

ratdeath got a reaction from Butschi in Cold War Grand Tournament signups are open
Maybe make the tournaments with 4 battles, the first battle can be something like moving a tank to a victory condition for 1-2 turns. Players that signed up but does not finish the pre-battle are booted from the tournament and hopefully we have less no show ups for the real battles... maybe stupid idea!!

ratdeath reacted to landser in What games lead you to CM and what do you also play now?
Similar for me to many posting here. I played CC1 and CC2 prior to picking up CMBO. Steel Panthers was probably my first proper wargame. I was also playing some of the Talonsoft games from the 90s, the Battleground series.
Steel Panthers though is what I credit for kickstarting my interest in all things WW2. Here is where I learned what a Wolverine was, or a Matilda, a Hellcat and all the guns and other weapons systems.I was in my early twenties and knew what WW2 was, but not much more. This was the beginning of my descent in to grog.
My older brother played Steel Panthers too. I can still recall a battle we played hotseat. This was thirty years ago, mind. I was Germans and he was the British. it was a wide open desert map. I had only discovered what a dual purpose 88 actually meant just a couple days before. So I had deployed a line of 88s backstopping my positions. When my brother's armor appeared on the open terrain I would spring the trap and destroy him in detail. Delighting in the anticipation of my masterful strategery.
On the first turn he sent over a bomber strike that wiped out my 88s before they fired a shot
